©Beginner blending tut: By haze
Made for GFX zone, and Random forums

I tried to make this tutorial as user-friendly as I could for the newiez :)
Okay, this tut will (hopefully) teach you how to blend your renders into your bg.. Go easy on me cuz it¡¦s my first tut :)

1) Okay so you will firstly need your background already done.. I¡¦ll use this old one of mine.

2) Okay now have your render ready, I¡¦ll use this one, I don¡¦t think it will go well with the bg I have chosen but oh well :P)

Okay now hit ctrl+c (or edit>copy) and copy it onto your bg (ctrl+v or edit>paste)

3) Now you will see that it will be on your bg but it will have white all around it which you don¡¦t want do you? (IF YOU HAVE ONLY THE RENDER NONE OF THE WHITE JUST SKIP THIS STEP)

So what you will do is get the magic wand tool and click on the white bits and once the white is highlighted, (MAKE SURE YOU DIDN¡¦T HIGHLIGHT ANY OF THE RENDER THAT YOU WANT TO KEEP) hit delete and all you will have left will be the render. Place the render where you want now.

4) Now get your magnetic lasso tool (which can be found by going where your normal lasso tool is and click there and hold for a second or two and you will get a few options click magnetic lasso tool. Now go around your image (it doesn¡¦t have to be perfect so don¡¦t worry if you go outside it a bit.

Or if you don¡¦t want to go round it with the magnetic lasso tool, simply hold control while you click on the layer in the layers palette on the layer of where your render is. And then the render should be highlighted as so:

5) Now while your render IS STILL highlighted as seen in the image right inside it and select feather 20 pixels, experiment with this because whatever you do here depends how much of the render gets taken off.. I used on this render around 17-20 pixels.. It may be different with the render that you will be using. Now click ¡§okay¡¨ and the highlighted area will have changed, now again right click inside the render and ¡§select inverse¡¨ as shown: now hit delete. As you see everything outside the part where it has been highlighted has been deleted.

This is what I have so far:

6) Now if you want you can click ctrl+u to get hue/saturation, make sure both the boxes are tick preview and colorize. And change it to the colour of your bg.. Or if you don¡¦t want to do it this way simply go to the layers palette and where it says normal in the top left click the arrow pointing downloards to get a drop down menu and select luminosity (which is last on the drop down menu
as shown.

(Optional step) To further blend it in to the bg get the blue tool and get a brush that you think will work I usually use the hard round 13 pix brush, now use this brush to go around the edge of your render.

Also: This tutorial will work for basically everything.. So if you wanted to blend your text in the same way as you did with your render, then all you have to do is firstly make your text layer and type it in add some blending options (if you like) then right click the text layer and select "rasterize" and proceed through the tutorial as normal, although it may be a little diffrent with the steps its still very simple, you will be able to work it out.. If you are having trouble doing it with the text just write in the forum and ask if I can make a tut on how to do this with the text and i'll do it, i'll add it onto the bottom of this tut..Thanks :) //haze

NOW YOUR FINISHED ļ SORRY THAT ITS IS PRETTY LONG JUST
FOR A SIMPLE BLENDING TUTORIAL©

As a tutorial writer - I gotta say.. Pretty good.. Not bad for a first tutorial.. Of course you could use this for anything really... Text, Logos, whatever you want as long as you have it rasterized you'll be alright.. all and all - pretty good photoshop tutorial here...

of course alternate for the magnetic lasso tool is to use ctrl + left mouse click on the layer you want selected.. in this case Layer2... I use ctrl + click anytime possible instead of using the Lasso Tool - my hand is too shaky i start selecting everything! plus since it's on 2 different layers - ctrl click would work better...

Thanks, yeah I didnt add that you can use it for other things..

Yeah I prefer just ctrl+click the layer but I thought I may as well say both ways...

Yeah whatever works though eh... I just like the easy way of doing things - although sometimes I prefer the hard way too cause it looks better at the end.. but othertimes I just skip steps in my own tutorials just to come up with something new and see what it does...

Nice tutorial and thx for your submission :D Make some new tutorials when you have time and maybe you get your own title saying Tutorial Master XD

speytoeh - January 31, 2005 04:59 PM (GMT)
Nice tutorial it looks good to and yeah the thing that is best about it is that you can do it really with anything

haze - January 31, 2005 11:00 PM (GMT)
okay, I will make some new ones, but I generally just made that because I was reading through one of the topics and someone said How do i blend my image so it doesnt overlap the bg.. So i decided I might make a tut on it.

I might add at the bottom that you can use it for basically everything all you have to do is just make sure you rasterise the layer (if you were doing it with text etc..)

When I get some time I might make a few more but for now.... :)

It looks nice and maybe some people will love it (like me :D) And what is the render ? something you made or you found it on the internet ?

If you want to make this work in a forum you need to use the following tags...

Yeah I'll try do one like my tut, although I just worked off another abstract tut that I found and just added my own little touches, like more layers an stuff like that.

The render I cant remember where I got it but It was made by someone called em2 :D And its like huge, very big. I just cut out a lil bit of it and put it there..
