Flagless (--poem/song--)

I sincerely apologize for my lack posting poems lately, and to make up for it I am posting this thing I made. Basically, I made it as a song for my band (and we WILL be using it), but it can also be read in poem-format. So enjoy and tell me what you think! (For everytone's info, I add "Bloodmoss" to the credits as a mere formality. I do all the writing of the lyrics, heh.)


Flagless

Empty-hearted, running naked through the fields of broken limbs, bodies dead and limp strewn all around.
Who can hear me cry, who can see me bleed?
Half-hearted I can’t go on, why am I here? We never could have won.
Who can watch me die; prove it with their own eyes?
No flag to carry, no horse to ride. No sword to parry, no one to fight. Was there even a cause in the first place, or did this disastrous event take place in vain?

Kneeling down, I turn over the body of a lost friend. Tears arrive as I see him missing several limbs; eyes rolled back, a perfect kill. Was this someone’s will?
Bending over, I can check as many bodies as I want. They’re all stone cold dead, to be blunt.

Empty-handed, there was no victory here. Am I the only one still standing?
Who can see me shed these tears, who can share this state of being soul weary?
Departed from my own life, forced to lead these innocents into a battle of strife.
Who can speak for me, for I’m as speechless as can be.
No flag to hold, no helicopter coming to my rescue. No reason, no one to blame but ourselves. I’ve been deemed a sinner and sent straight to Hell.

All emotions seem to leave; all passions disappear and I no longer weep.

Heartless now, I’m rolling down an endless hill that’s too steep. Pain’s inflicted but I fail to notice; death’s predicted but I refuse to care. Was this my own doing?
Asking myself how I could’ve been so selfish, dwelling over my own lacking. I lead them into a battle of fruitlessness, and come back with nothing but casualties. Is that all they’ll be, just another statistic on the toll? Did I dig all of their graves? Did I throw them into the hole?

All desires have gone from me; there’s no longer any type of meaning.

I’m the leader that stands here now, bare and plain, this I vow: I’ll never take part in the world’s arguments again; no more will I be carelessly spent!
I’ll never carry this burden again, you can’t force it on me another time, I swear it.

Our terms of agreement can clash however many times you wish them to, but you won’t convince me to give myself up, too!

Lifeless…hopeless…leaderless…diminished…I apologize for being imperfect.

Ahh, now a song I like. The poem style better suits your creative talents, IMHO.

No real specific comments here, although I did enjoy the line "Pain’s inflicted but I fail to notice".
