February 25, 2013. The Virgin Galactic Interplanetary Ship, "Virginia City" returning to Earth from the Pennsylvania Colony on Mars with returning colonists composed of Civil Servants and Terrestrial Engineers, witness a huge meteor zoom past the space ship on a trajectory towards Earth are stunned. The large meteor twice the size of Manhattan speeds towards the south pole and enters over the Antartic continent on an angle that sends it towards the African continent and eventually it's angle becomes more pronounced as it heads towards the Atlantic Ocean near the bulge of Africa and flies directly towards the island of La Palma and slams into the island with such force that creates a hole nearly three miles deep and causes the Cumbre Vieja Ridge on the western coast of the island to slide into the Atlantic Ocean with a huge splash and forces the Cumbre Vieja Volcano to erupt with a force that is twice than that of the 1883 Krakatoan Volcanic explosion. The Cumbre Vieja Ridge causes a Tsunami to rush towards the eastern coast of the United States. The onrushing path the meteor took after it entered the atmosphere took it on a path that eluded all geosynchronous and lower earth satellites did not pick up and because of it's speed and the resulting Tsunami speeding towards the east coast of the United States with barely a five hour warning by the warning system of ship to shore and other observation points that witnesses observed. Emergency Civil Service warnings alerted the lower half of the eastern coast and did not realize the size of the Tsunami.

The Cumbre Vieja Volcanic explosion causes the molten lava to open new channels in the crust and rippling through the earth to buckle in the western part of the United States. The dry opening channel of the Colorado river near the Bajan peninsula is flooded and flowing northward along the natural dry path of the river. The wall of the onrushing water slams into the Hoover dam and destroying the original London bridge at Lake Havasu City before swamping Lake Mead and the waters come close to Las Vegas but because of the opening of the Intermontain Sea that engineers had dug ten years before so that the state of Nevada could be turned into a green covered earth of grass and trees the water enters the underground sea. The results would turn Las Vegas into a seaport. The Tsunami slams into the east coast with devastating results with several millions dead and cities destroyed. The lower half of Florida disappears underwater just south of Orlando. Orlando eventually becomes a seaport. New York City is devastated but rebuilt. The Delmarvan peninsula loses its lower half to the sea. And Washington, D.C. is partially devastated. Fortunately NUMA Headquarters had moved to Seattle. It's director, Gamay Trout, is saddened at losing several members of NUMA in the disaster. She summons Dirk Junior and Summer Pitt to her office June 7 at 3:30pm. She's happy to see them as they come into the office. After hugs and pleasantries are done she inquires as to the results of their respective duties. Then she inquires how Dirk Sr. and Loren are doing in their retirement home of Wellington, New Zealand. Dirk says the elderly Dirk and Loren are happy and keep busy with their own projects.

Gamay Trout, director of NUMA then gives a tale of World War 2 and the finding of an Steamboat back in 1987 and it's raising years later and how all this ties in with the disappearance of the Virgin Galactic Interplanetary spaceship, "Virginia City" after it re-entered Earth's orbit and a fellow Virgin Galactic sub-orbital spaceship.

In 1856 the Steamboat Arabia was snagged and sunk in the Missouri River with lives lost. In 1987 the site of the steamboat is rediscovered on a farm. And eventually raised by Bob Hawley and his two sons, David and Greg and a family friend, Jerry Macke seeking adventure and wealth obtain permission from the farmers Norman and Beulah Sorter to start digging for the steamboat paddlewheeler Arabia. After 132 years of the shifting of the Missouri river and it's riverbed the Hawleys and Macke track down the final resting place of the Arabia with research and magnetic detection. After the raising of the steamboat and it's artifacts stored in an Museum located in Kansas City that's now administered by the Hawley family there's another story of backbiting and treachery. Apparently a valise of documents were found by the Hawley's while inventorying the artifacts of the Arabia but was stolen by another financial backer of the dig. The documents disappeared into the hands of someone whose contacts with the federal government led the CIA, NSA AND DIA to believe that the documents had secret formulas that were very similar to the ones involved in the Philadelphia incident in World War 2. But after informing the agencies of what he found about the person who disappeared and was not seen until May 24, 2013 after purchasing tickets aboard the Virgin Galactic sub-orbital spaceship, Spindrift. Unfortunately the Spindrift disappeared along with the Virgin Galactic Interplanetary spaceship, "Jefferson City".

"The intelligence community believes that the documents that were aboard the Arabia are bona fide because someone did disappear off the Philadelphia while others failed to but died in the experiment", says Gamay Trout to Dirk Jr. and Summer. "Now there's the same name of that person who paid the tickets for the sub-orbital flight of the Spindrift whose destination was Wellington, New Zealand". "That name was Hiram Yaeger, Sr. the father of our Hiram who developed Max". "We believe he may have been going to see your father, Dirk Sr." "Oh, my god!! Dirk Jr. and Summer chimed together. "Unfortunately the DNA found on the Arabia does belong to a member of the Yaeger family which has us stumped because we thought it was Hiram Sr.'s but was not".

"So I want you to go see your father and ask him what he knows about Hiram, Sr." says Gamay Trout. Dirk Jr. and Summer go to Ronald Reagan International's Virgin Galactic Sub-Orbital desk and purchase tickets for Wellington, New Zealand after stopping off at the Hangar and arranging for Dirk the third to be taken care of by his father, Nicholas Perlmutter, St. Julien's grandson.

Three and a half hours later Dirk Jr. and Summer arrive in Wellington, New Zealand. Twenty minutes outside of Wellington they arrive at Dirk Sr. and Loren's home. Dirk opens the door and is immediately radiating his big smile at his two kids. The twinkle still in his green eyes and his strong gait shows Dirk Sr. still fit and trim. They sit down on the Sofas and inquire where Loren is. "Loren's doing her charitable work at the Hospital. She still maintains an office there despite not being the Chief Administrator anymore". Dirk Sr. inquires how Dirk the third is doing. "He's maintaining his grades and very active in football and baseball and swimming teams" says Summer. She whips out some recent photos of her son. "Nicholas being a good father is he?" Dirk Sr. asks. "Oh yes, wonderfully" replies Summer with a loving smile.

"Okay, what does Gamay want from me? another job? some adventurous trek around the globe fighting bad guys?" "Nothing so active father!" says Summer. "But we do have a story and an inquiry for you" says Dirk Jr. "Typical" says Dirk Sr. Summer and Dirk Jr. manage to relate all the story without stepping on each others narrative. Dirk ruminates about Hiram Sr. for a few minutes before venturing a word. "I recall meeting him when i was a kid. He and My Father knew each other from the war and before". "I recall my father talking about Hiram Sr. working at Tuxedo Park, N.Y. with Alfred Loomis the wealthy businessman who headed a private lab where scientific work was done that helped us during the war that involved the development of Radar". "But not much else about the details involved".

"Some DNA of the Yaeger family was found on the Arabia?" says, Dirk Sr. Ruminating again on the subject he recalls something that he barely remembers from before the age of five. "Hiram Sr. did tell me about a story about a murder in the family and a rivalry with the french family that had founded both Kansas City and St. Louis".

Dirk Sr. thinks for awhile staring out into space as if remembering something but it's elusive trail keeps one step ahead. Finally it comes to him with some mental leaping. "The Chouteau Family!" he declares. Yes! he remembers in history class about the Lewis & Clark exploration had some help in preparing for their trip by the Chouteau family.

President Dennis Richardson speaks before the press conference on the rebuilding of both cities and the strength of those who survived the loss of their families and friends. After being re-elected in the 2012 election, President Dennis Richardson, defeating James Sheridan, the Speaker of the House. President Dennis Richardson has successfully broken both parties to bits while establishing the American Party. Having payed off the Federal debt of 7 Trillion dollars with the threat of keeping Congess in permanent session and pushing through the largest budget that payed it off while not paying anything else for Eight months took hard work between both of them but when it was done the American people felt relieved and the Democratic and Republican parties were smashed into pieces in the process.

Off the Coast of New Zealand lay hidden the U.S.S. Nevada, the first submarine dedicated to the purpose of Oceanographic purposes. It's Commander was Nathan Shaw a powerfully built man whose piercing blue-black eyes withered his crew when he was ever furious. Chief Scientist Helene Milligan was conferring with Nathan Shaw on the latest reports of the projects currently active in Commander Shaw's office. Chief Engineer Victoria Sanders was in attendance with them as she listened to Chief Scientist Milligan.

Somehere below ground in the state of Texas lay a massive hole in the ground that the federal government had commissioned dug for the purposes of building a super colliding particle accelerator in the late 1980s lay a private lab run by a very powerful family that had its claws in the federal government despite President Richardson's attempts to ferret and dig out. :lol:

Along the way to the White House and after, President Richardson had fought and demolished several powerful interests that had their hands in the federal cookie jar, manipulating the government for their own purposes.

The Communications Officer aboard the U.S.S. Nevada received a coded communique for Commander Shaw and walked to the Commander's office and handed him the coded message. Commander Shaw was stunned by the communique from the President to hurry to the newly built seaport of Las Vegas post haste. Commander Shaw walked to the Main Operations Deck and ordered full speed ahead to Las Vegas.

Like Thomas Jefferson, President Richardson had an insatiable quest for knowledge and helped the Space Program and Oceanographic Research Programs and believed that these efforts along with preservation of the planet's ecosystyems that there was hope for the World and the United States in a continuing quest to explore and increase the knowledge of people so that they can make informed decisions.

Commander Shaw and his crew of the U.S.S. Nevada arrived at the submarine pen in the intermontain sea that's part of the newly built seaport eight hours after leaving New Zealand. Awaiting their arrival were Dirk Jr. and Summer Pitt who walked up to meet the Commander and introduced themselves as NUMA employees temporarily assigned to the Nevada. "Welcome aboard the Nevada, Summer and Dirk!" said Commander Shaw.

With Summer and Dirk Jr.'s arrival in Commander Shaw's office, they were in a serious mood that Cmdr. Shaw picked up on. Cmdr. Shaw queried as to their reason for being aboard the sub. Summer reported that their research was based on the findings recently relayed by the Ohio Colony on Titan and that they had also relayed the report of a massive fire at the Pennsylvania Colony on Mars, destroying vital data recently accumulated.

"It's been proven that Titan's ocean can be used for surface and undersea vessels" says Summer Pitt and queries Cmdr. Shaw if he has heard of teleportation. "Only in science-fiction miss Pitt" says Cmdr. Shaw. "We have accomplished this just recently on the pennsylvania colony but we lost some important data in the fire there". "Our land based Ohio Colony on Titan needs some backup with sea research and with my research here on Earth providing some new data on the feasibility of this we want to use the Nevada." It dawns on Commander Shaw what is wanted of him and his crew. "The Dakota Colony on Pluto with it's marine contingent is in need of this capability of teleportation so that they may come and go with ease because of the long distance involved. The data lost in the Pennsylvania Colony fire can be made up with this experimental first step. They had been traveling back to Mars and it took like forever with the time it took to travel". Muttering beneath his breath Cmdr. Shaw asks if this is a command. Dirk Pitt Jr. hands over the documentation with both the President's signature and NUMA Director Trout's signature as well. "Very well" says Cmdr. Shaw.

"Dirk, maybe we should have told Cmdr. Shaw about Max and Hiram's time-travel program and that it was the radar and teleportation technology that makes up the back-bone of what we are doing despite this time-travel mystery that we are dealing with", says Summer after they left Cmdr. Shaw's office. Dirk replies, "It was Hiram's baby until we learned that maybe it wasn't with this mystery involving the Choteau and Yaeger feud". "Until we know more let's keep it under wraps".

February 25, 2013. Moments before the Virgin Galactic Interplanetary ship, "Jefferson City" and the Virgin Galactic Sub-Orbital spaceship, Spindrift, disappear Hiram Yaeger, Sr. struggles with Alexander Choteau Fitzhugh aboard the Spindrift for the device that was built in the 19th century. The device falls from Hiram's seat as they struggle. Both reach for it. Alexander gets his hand on it. Hiram forces himself to grab at it and accidentally knocks Alex's fingers over the lever. The device comes on and a growing field of dimensia envelops the Spindrift and eventually the Jefferson City as it enters the atmosphere less than 30 miles away. The Spindrift is teleported to an unknown galaxy many light years away and the Jefferson City travels forward in time. p:

The Spindrift descends toward land for its arrival but Pilot Julian Conroy does not recognize any familiar features and attempts to use the radio but to no avail. Pilot Conroy spies a city and flies toward it looking for an airport but not seeing any decides to fly on a bit more hoping to find an airfield. After 40 some miles Pilot Conroy spies a level ground where the sub-orbital ship can land. Leveling off and smoothly rolling to a stop Pilot Conroy and Co-Pilot Yvonne Kasznar prepare to open the doors and allow the passengers to deplane. Heather, the Stewardess makes sure that everyone including the two men who were fighting get off smoothly. Betty Lund, little Stefan DeAngelo, and Deanna Matthews get off with their luggage followed by Hiram and Alexander.

July 18, 2047. The Jefferson City descends toward the North American continent and flies toward San Diego when several fighter jets streak up to meet the Jefferson City and shoots at the space ship. "What the H#%%!!" cries Commander Paul Conried and takes elusive maneuvers to dodge the fighter jets. He screams the space ship back up into orbit to escape. yike:

June 22, 2013. With all preparations done the U.S.S. Nevada teleports to the jovean moon, Titan. Summer Pitt rides along with the submarine to Titan. Once arrived the submarine finds itself floating on the Titan ocean. It heads toward the Ohio Colony over 20 miles away. Upon arrival Summer, Commander Shaw, Chief Engineer Victoria Sanders, and Chief Scientist Helene Milligan meet the Ohio Colony Chief Administrator Sandy Kenyon in her office.

Dirk Pitt Jr. flies to Seattle and arrives at the 20th floor of NUMA HQ where Hiram Yaeger Jr. and Max can be found deep in their projects on many Oceanographic and other topics. Hiram Jr. greets Dirk with a big smile and a firm handshake, "What brings my young man to my lair?". Dirk says that with Gamay Trout's permission Hiram can divulge his "Deep Purple" project to Dirk. "Well my young man, sit back and let me tell you a tale of a ship and her crew". He then relates the Philadelphia Experiment that occured in World War 2. But that was not just the beginning. "It goes back in time to the steamship, Arabia, on her trip up the Missouri river in 1854 and how Hiram Yaeger, Sr. my father had gone back in time from the Philadelphia to try and stop the murder of a family member or failing that to ensure the failure of the Choteau family. It was the story of Myles Yaeger who developed the formulae for time travel and teleportation that was way ahead of its time and prevent the Choteau family from getting their hands on the documents that had the formulae written down. Hiram Yaeger Sr. succeeded in retrieving the documents but unable to stop the murder of Miles Yaeger. He also succeeded in killing the Choteau who killed Miles. But The knowledge of those documents existence was passed down from generation to generation in the Choteau family. And now my father Hiram Sr. has disappeared on the spindrift, lost forever, I have to presume".

After deplaning the Spindrift, everyone looked around and noticed everything was 12 times bigger than what they thought. They began to talk about the size of everything. After twenty some minutes of talking and walking around looking at everything a shadow passed over the group and they looked up to see a Large human leaning over looking at them. Everyone ran to the spaceship and Julian Conroy started the engines and took off. Flying for over 30 minutes until he see's a smaller clearing and lands at the edge of the clearing. Everyone deplanes again and begin to talk about what to do now that everyone realized they were not on earth.

In orbit over the earth the pilot of the Jefferson City, Paul Zastupnevich relaxes and confers with co-pilot Bert Kramer about what to do.They decide to query the leading civil servant and terrestrial engineers, Lisanne Sanders and Charles Mayweather about their options. Charles Mayweather asks if the spaceship has certain types of analyzers. "Yes we do" says Pilot Paul Zastupnevich. And he permits Charles Mayweather to do a probe of earth's capabilities. "Looks like our civilization has regressed back to the cold war era with tight police states ruling most of the advanced countries". "How is that possible?' asks the pilot.

In a hole in the ground of Texas there lay a large scientific laboratory that was privately owned by the Choteau family. Mimosan Choteau was poring over some paperwork in his office when Ardyth Clocqeau, his second cousin walked into his office. "Where are we on the search for the Jefferson City and our beloved Francois' Choteau?" asks Ardyth. "D*@^#& if I know" cries Mimosan. He rings up his executive assistant to inquire on the search. He listens for several minutes and hangs up. "Apparently our source at NUMA has learned that it was our own Alexander who was tailing Hiram Yaeger and were both on the Virgin Galactic sub-orbital spaceship, Spindrift, when it disappeared along with the Jefferson City". "We can only speculate what happened but it's probable that Hiram had the first teleportation/time travel device with him when both ships disappeared". Ardyth says, "Well I guess our Francois' disappeared after setting that fire on the Pennsylvania Colony on Mars". "How is Anatole' doing on the Delaware Colony on Venus?" inquires Ardyth. Mimosan says, "Very well indeed! He is monitoring the progress they are making in the Terrestrialization of Venus. And believes they will be done within two months at the outside". "The technology that we have helped developed is going far indeed in terrestrializing the other planets is a miracle of wonders that our forefathers begged, borrowed and stolen over the centuries has given us and the rest of civilization a leg up in beginning our march into space and the total domination of all" grins Mimosan.

Paul "Blue" Quarnos strides into Gamay's office after returning from Mars aboard the Virgin Galactic Interplanetary Ship, "Victorio Peak" and blurts out in curses the fire aboard the Pennsylvania Colony was arson!!!. Gamay slowly sits back down and invites "Blue" to sit down and give her a report on his putting out the fire. "Obviously we are dealing with dangerous people" says Gamay. "Yer darn tootin' *&^% right , woman!!!!" says "Blue". "My ole' great-uncle, "Red" Adair was the best at puttin' out them oil fires of the 60s and 70s. And I know the business as well!!!". co:

June 22, 2013. Cmdr. Shaw is ensconced in his office aboard the U.S.S. Nevada on the Jovean moon, Titan, and her sea, thinking about that trip from Earth to Titan that took only about fifteen minutes time and how his molecules were transported in such a quick time, feeling like he has lost some along the way. Then he smiles thinking about his meeting Sandy Kenyon, a most attractive woman and finds himself looking forward to his next meeting with her. The papers on his desk are Summer Pitt's lists of Oceanographic projects that she drew up and seeking his input and approval. He doesn't find anything out of the ordinary and approves the lists with his initials. Summoning his Chief Scientist, Helene Milligan on the intercom, to his office. She arrives soon and they go over the lists of projects on the jovean moon's waters to be done. He tells her to check with Chief Engineer Victoria Sanders and what she's required to do on the projects. Helene smiles at him with a knowing smile. He knows whats coming. "You and Sandy would make a great couple Nathan". "Maybe" he says. She leaves with a parting smile.

After leaving NUMA HQ Dirk Pitt Jr. drives to Sea-tac International Airport, and walks to the Virgin Galactic Desk where he purchases a ticket for a flight to the Pennsylvania Colony. After waiting for forty-five minutes he boards the Virgin Galactic Interplanetary Spacehip Villareal. Four and a half hours later he arrives there and is met by an old man who is the host. He introduces himself as Clive Cussler. p:
