Great comeback !!
Yep, if someone asked me, it'd be a whole bunch of Dirk Pitt adventures. I also like to read and collect Wilbur Smith books and I recently learned that Wilbur Smith's works were an inspiration for Clive Cussler himself !
Maeve - February 26, 2004 01:33 AM (GMT)
Yep, Cussler books are at the top of my list too. I also like to read fantasty - Eddings, Feist etc. Also like Historical Fiction - Erskine, Gabaldon etc, and I like to read non-fiction too, esp autobiographies. And I confess that I am a big fan of the Harry Potter books. Actually pretty much anything with words sums it up!
LorenSmith - February 26, 2004 08:21 PM (GMT)
My husband's read Cussler for years and I finally started about 4 months ago. I've now read all he's written and I feel lost without one of his books. I can blow through one of them in two days ususally. His charachter are so endearing.
I also like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars novels, Piers Anthony, Tom Clancy. I think I'll read the Odyssey next (i've been inspired, you could say). I think I'll also give Eddings a try.
DirkPitt - February 27, 2004 09:02 AM (GMT)

Much like Loren, I recently started reading Clive Cussler novels. I can't put them down. But my first experience with Cussler was in 87 while I was in college. On my to class I would listen to public radio. They were reading Treasure. I only heard several chapters but I was hooked. I was also often late for class, especially the scene where Pitt is driving the Cord through the mountains with Ismail in hot pursuit. I had remembered the book for years and finally got the chance to read it.
AlGiordino - February 28, 2004 01:03 PM (GMT)
For books, Cussler, Cussler, Cussler, Stephen King, Michael Crichton.. thats about it.
For movies, The Matrix Trilogy, The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, (hopefully) Sahara, Pirates Of The Caribbean.
^_^ worth a check ^_^

Clive's books are by far my favorite but I'm a big fan of Jack Du Brul's books also. His hero Philip Mercer is more of the academic type but he gets into the same predicaments that Dirk and Al get into. they are a great read check them out!! JimO
Nic0demus - March 1, 2004 02:20 AM (GMT)
Although i would get blasted for saying this on another, more harsh fansite, i am partial to the in your face action of Matthew Reilly.......i guess you could call it a guily pleasure..........

I have to echo Clive's choice of the Hemingway stuff. I collect Hemingway firsts, and everything Hemingway. I also love Jack London. My list is also full of Clive, Carl Hiasen, Patrick O'Brien, and Elmore Leonard.

I'm not going to say CC it goes without saying however to all you action readers ie Tom Clancy, Dale Brown. I have found the best thing since slice bread!!!!
Try James H Cobb and his series about Capt Amanda Garrett starting with Choosers of the slain.
If that floats your boat and you love the Sea, you will not find a better fiction story about politics and the sea than Challenge and New World, war with Yachts instead of weapons, can't put my finger on the author that would mean leaving you all.
Movies
WIND Matthew Modine + Jennifer Grey
The Cutting Edge DB Sweeney + Moira Kelly
We Were Soldiers Mel Gibson
Bruce Almight Good Ole Jim K for a bit of fun
and last sad as it my be Groundhog Day allways makes me laugh
janiscarol - April 23, 2004 08:33 PM (GMT)
B) Just finished "Man On Fire" and if the movie is as good as the book, it should be great.
Any Clive Cussler book, over and over and over!!
Old Stephen King novels.
leopoldville - April 24, 2004 05:03 AM (GMT)
funny enough, i became a reader after reading HMS UYLESSES by Alistair McLean. if you haven't read any of his works, you really need to try one or two, for example THE GUNS OF NAVARONE and WHERE EAGLES DARE. If you like Clive's books, you will also enjoy these. Im also very partical to Aruther C. Clarke.
For movies, give me lord of the rings, the guns of navarone, operation petticoat, and the shawshank redemption. Also pirates of the carribian.
Mandasy123 - April 24, 2004 06:42 PM (GMT)
White Fang is a hard book to read. I had to read it in 7th grade.
Buffarillo - April 25, 2004 06:16 AM (GMT)
Hmmmmmmmmm, I can't limit myself to 10 favorite movies or 10 favorite books...I have over 200 movies (just some of my favs) on video/dvd; and need to go get another bookcase.........no idea how many books I have but have 6 full bookcases.........that doesn't count the boxes of books (probably around 15) or the books stacked on my nightstand, headboard, and desk......thank God the kids moved out!!!! Anyway, I can list some of my very favorites of my favorites, which are usually books and movies:
Anne of Green Gables/Anne of Avonlea (the movies were close to the books, both were very good--loved the books as a kid)
Eddie and the Cruisers
The Last of the Dogmen
The Mirror Has 2 Faces
The Family Man
Field of Dreams (movie) & Shoeless Joe Jackson (the book--very different from the movie, but each were great in their own right)
Heaven and Earth (movie) & the book, same as above--different but good in their own right
Fried Green Tomatos (hated the book)
The Abyss
Yes, chick-flicks rule at my house, but I do love a good adventure story, either on film or in a book....and these were not listed in any particular order. My favorites for reading or watching movies are comedies........but it all depends on the mood I'm in.....I gotta have the right book/movie for each mood!
I also have a stack of books regarding psychological disorders....a little light reading to further my knowledge/insight/compassion at work.....
JimmyAEMT-I - April 27, 2004 05:41 AM (GMT)

Don't have many posts but I do have some authors I like that are not on here.
The first author/ book you guys should check out is Jeff Long. His book the Descent may be the best I have ever read.
jeff long pagethis is a link to his website and it contains the first chapter. If you aren't captured and wisked off to Tibet then this may not be the book for you. He has another book called Year One. It is also very good.
Of course I love CC books and some of the regulars like Grisham, Patterson and John Sandford are good reads.
Another book I like is The Sword of Bedwyr. It is a three book series by RA Salvatore. I am usually not much on fantasy but I was never a reader at all until a girl bought that book for me when I was about 25. Now 9 years and hundreds of books later, I often look back at that one book that started me on path to reading. But all in all it is a very cool story and serires.
