Title: Announcing: The first Literary Idol competition
Description: Inviting entries from this forum.
Lat - December 1, 2004 07:10 PM (GMT)
Some of you may be aware of the Literary Idol competition, till now referred to on the SimonSays CCDB. We previously ran two SS/CCDB writing competitions, and it was decided to start the Literary Idol competition, including entrants from other forums as well.
MIG73 has asked me to post this announcement here.
“As for all the changes and clarifications being made to the competition they are as follows:
#1- The new deadline for entries will now be 11:59 PM EST May 30th 2005.
#2- The voting deadline has been suspended until we are able to ascertain the final volume of entries we have and allow a reasonable time for all the entries to be read. However you can expect it to fall somewhere around July 15th. More info will follow on this subject as we have it.
#3- We will be adding another board to our list of eligible entrants, that board is this Cussler Forum.
We will periodically be making updates as to any news regarding the competition, but please make all efforts to direct questions through the www.literary-idol.com website if at all possible.
Thank you,
Literary-Idol.com”
I would recommend that you visit
Literary-Idol.com for the full set of rules.
With all the fan fiction on this site, we are looking forward to your participation.
:)

Oh geez, I don't know if I can do this...I'm fresh out of Ideas
Mostly Heep - December 1, 2004 09:24 PM (GMT)
How about we submit Pandoras Realm? If we can finish it I would be willing to try and edit it into a submittable story.
Just a thought.
DirkPitt - December 1, 2004 09:31 PM (GMT)
That's an idea. List all the contributors as the authors.
Mostly Heep - December 1, 2004 10:05 PM (GMT)
I just read the rules and they have to be original names.Although if we changed the names we wouldn't need Clives permission.

I would really encourage people to enter, even if you know you do not have a winning entry. The feedback from others is great and very helpful.

I hope the fact that I posted a bit of my story in Fan Fic won't mean that I'm not eligible to submit it for Lit Idol... p:

I suggest you address this on the Literary Idol site's forum - you still have the link? Or access it through the main website. :)
ShadowAvalon - December 10, 2004 10:45 AM (GMT)
Does it have to be Cussler related (character and type of story) or can it be about any character and subject?
Lat - December 10, 2004 04:51 PM (GMT)
The story may be any genre, but it must be original characters. Visit the site for full rules. You will also find links to the 2 previous SimonSays CCDB competitions that were held, that will give you an idea what was previously entered.
The site has a forum for any questions -looking forward to your entry. :)

Hey Guys,
MIG73 here. I wanted to answer a few of the questions that have popped up, to get you guys on the right track.
#1- Ians submission. There is not conflict with him entering his sumission even though it has already been partially posted on this site. We WOULD however like to also post it on the Lit Idol site as a teaser for the current comp...
#2- Just to clarify, Original characters simply means that you cant uses someone elses characters (like Dirk Pitt or James Bond) in your story, thats not to say that you cant use historical figures either living or dead.
Thats all for now, good luck guys, and we look forward to seeing what you can come up with.
Any further questions, please feel free to post on our Lit Idol Site or email me directly at MICHAELCSHRIVER@HOTMAIL.COM for answers.
MIG73 - December 10, 2004 05:17 PM (GMT)
Almost forgot a question... As to the genre and subject matter of the stories, its wide open...anything you choose, so knock yourselves out.
Good Luck,
MIG

Sounds interesting! But i doubt my fan fic story here would qualify. And when i see too many rules it tends to turn me off. I can understand about protecting copyrighted material so i will shut up. Let those with better talent create something for CCDB. w:

tsk...
Let me tell you a little story...a true story, though the names have been changed.
Many moons ago, before the coming of the wolf and the raven...
Let me start over...
A few years back, I got the crazy notion to write a story to follow up the adventures of a certain silver screen adventure hero--lets call him Illinois James, or IJ for short. I wrote a complete IJ novel and did my darndest to get it published. (I'll leave out the middle section and jump ahead to the big reveal.) When I realized that my story had no future as an IJ adventure, I was faced with a choice. Use the manuscript for toilet paper, or change the names and settings to make it an original work. The result was a little novel I call "The Argo Destiny" and an adventure hero with a better name that Illinois James. I refer of course to Nick Kismet, whose name (in the interest of shameless self promotion) I have borrowed for this forum.
The morale of this story is: never eat the lettuce in Tiajuana
Oh, and never discount the value of a story, even if you have to change the names a little to avoid aping a copyrit work.

Sage advice, Nick. You are wise beyond your years. Unless you are in actuallity 100 or more.
yike:
As for story submissions, if our fan fiction sub-forum has proven anything, it's that there are many talented writers out there that should give this a go. th: th:

Perhaps I will hack a few pages out of my dusty old skull. But first to do some reading of the past submissions. w:
Giordino13 - March 19, 2005 05:50 PM (GMT)
Yeah my fan fic wouldn't either because it uses Cussler's characters
ShadowAvalon - March 23, 2005 02:31 AM (GMT)
Doing a final edit on my short work for contribution. If I get through spring break alive I will submit it.

Do you know if it is possible for someone like me to view the stories? I'm interested in seeing the masterpieces the contestants have worked so hard on !! p:
