Title: Clive's personal touch to your book
Description: do you have a special note from Clive ?
DirkPitt - March 8, 2004 01:02 AM (GMT)
Here's a great place to post a picture or describe your book that
Clive Cussler has personally signed for you or added a graphic personal touch. Or you might have pictures of other fans signed books.
Clive for as long as I remember has always been gracious enough to set aside time for signing his fan's books whether its just a single book or a suitcase full.
How many authors go out of their way like Clive Cussler ? :)

Here is one of the few Clive signed for me on the Trojan Odyssey tour. I also have one signed like "Dirk Pitt" has with the "Get it Up" signature.

Finally:
*Note, that is no longer Clive's address!
The letter reads:
Dear Spenser,
Thank you for your nice letter. I'm happy to hear you enjoy my books. You sound like a busy guy. I was an Eagle Scout many years ago. Keep writing on your book. Never stop until you can type, "The End."
Best of Luck,
Clive Cussler
The picture got smeared in the mail. It reads:
To Spenser
From one writer to another.
Clive Cussler

Sorry, no access to a scanner, but my Flood Tide book was inscribed
"Janis, why did you leave me for Dirk Pitt in Tahati? Clive Cussler"
That book will never, ever leave my possession!!

A few years ago, I read in Car & Driver magazine that Clive Cussler was starting to collect single shot dueling pistols like Kurt Austin.
I had an old book cataloging and describing the single shot dueling pistols of Henry Deringer (one "r").
The book was my grandfather's, then my father's and then mine. But, knowing that Cussler loves research and has quite a library of references (he is his own Perlmutter I believe!), I felt the book belonged in his library instead of mine.
So I sent it to him along with a quick note thanking him for writing his Pitt books.
I didn't think much of it and then just two weeks later I received a first edition of Valhalla Rising, inscribed:
"Steve, Many thanks for the Deringer book. I'm truly grateful. Clive Cussler"
To use a firearms term in reference to this particular inscribed copy personalized to me...From My Cold Dead Hands!!!!!!

OK, It took me ages to upload this picture (I'm a lazy/busy buzzard), but here it is in all the JPEG glory!
It's also from the TO tour. Kudos to Bruce Kenfield of the CCCS for getting it for me.
It's a blast! TO signed with CC's name in cyrillic letters!
It says,
"To Ian,
A great adventurer,"
then Clive Cussler in cyrillic letters,
and finally's CC signature.
COOL! B) ;)

Hello there everyone. A few weeks ago I wrote to Dr Cussler. I got a response from him the day before yesterday. I was excited. I got a laugh out of it. As you can see.. he couldn't quite get my name. So here it is:

Hey Steve a.k.a. mm6mm6, giving that book to Dr. Cussler is quite a thing to do. That shows some class. Doing something like that for a guy who has done so much for others is pretty sweet! You (and I) will never know all that Dr. Cussler has done for other people. I have been told that what he has done for others is "legion!"
When the good Doctor passes away, I would hope that someone would put together all the good deeds that he did. You know, something like a memoirs. The thing about this is that he does not publicize his personal acts of kindness. Which I beleive is the way it should be. But, I would still love to read about them later. I know that it would bring out the best in all of us in wanting to make this a better world. You know, helping an old lady to cross the street ;)
Fans, when it comes to doing good for others, always remember "Semper Paratus"
Seahunter.
