Title: Virtual Book Tour
Description: What is the Code? Answers here (maybe)
Nick Kismet - February 8, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
If my co-conspirator has no objections, I'm willing to field a few questions about the content of the Code. Hopefully, I will find answers that are as cryptic as the mystery that inspired this work.

co-author of the Clive Cussler Code

How does it end? Do we need to have read all the books to understand it?
oswalder - February 9, 2005 02:43 AM (GMT)
Where did you get your ideas? Is it just based on interesting things/patterns you've picked up on from the books?

I'm pretty it sure it ends with a period... Maybe a question mark... no, definitely a period.

You haven't read all the books?!? Good heavens, why not?

Most of the ideas came from reading Clive Cussler books. There may have been some mushrooms involved too...but that's from Tony's contribution.
Seriously though, I like to think of the book as a road map for a scavenger hunt. I hope that it inspires everyone to go back to the first book (Pacific Vortex) and read it with a slightly different perspective. It will make you think about things you've noticed before, and maybe even wondered about, but never placed into a larger context. Some of it is absolutely true; some of it is positively fictional--it quotes extensively from Cussler's novels, which are of course fictitious--and some of it falls into that shadowy inbetween which I suppose could best be described as speculative. Perhaps a better way to express it would be "inspired by real events."

Does it focus only on Dirk Pitt books, or those "other" ones too (Kurt Austin, Oregon files, etc)?
Nick Kismet - February 10, 2005 06:06 AM (GMT)
The straight answer is that it does focus primarily on the Pitt novels, but there are certainly elements of what we have termed "the Code" woven into the fabric of Cussler's entire fictional universe. Whether he has deigned to share these revelations with his co-authors remains to be seen.

Hmm, intriguing. The Code may actually create an interest in reading his non-DP fiction that's not really there right now. He should share some royalties with you guys. th:

Can't wait till my copy is in the mailbox. Lots of new way of looking at things in the books. It will interseting to see how close some of the ideas I've had are to the answers in the code. det: w:

Does it have a picture of Tony and Sean on the back with their cars?
Nick Kismet - February 15, 2005 06:37 PM (GMT)
you don't want to see a picture of my car
although, I just made an offer on a '73 Jeep CJ 5. If I can get that, and spend a few bucks on paint, it will be a dream come true.

Received my copy today and finished it in short order. Very interesting and thought provoking stuff. However, one thing I have noticed on this forum are alot of comments about typo's and editing misses in Dr. Cussler's books and was just wondering if the same editors missed the typos in The Code?

no, different publishers, editors etc. Clive's books are edited professionally, whereas the Code was created, edited and published right here on the forum.
Cheers ... Tony

I'd say PV is pretty important, mostly because events in that book affect the characterization of people (especially Dirk) in future books. Enjoy the Code!

Thank you for your answer!
