Title: CODE comments ....
Description: your thoughts

Now that you've finally read THE CLIVE CUSSLER CODE, how did you like it?
boissee - February 25, 2005 03:51 PM (GMT)
It was thought provoking. Several times I was wondering where you guys were going with several of the items you were discussing.
What I liked best is your discovery that PV was totally revamped for the 1983 publishing and subsequent release that led to your figuring out that Clive's revalations in later novels was not due to forgetfulness, but rather a totally clear recollection of events and people he wrote about in his first writing that were changed.
Of course I had to point out Sean's small geography error regarding the Titanic.

It really was awesome the way it all came together, once I started reading I had to continue as I had to find out how it was going to end. I really liked the inclusion of the 'missing pages' from the UK edition.
You all did a remarkable job th:

Really a great read.
I have to admit, it did remind me of Foucault's Pendulum. That is what made it exciting for me.
I really did picture in my mind the 4 of you sitting together trying to figure out an enthralling mystery.
(I should be a blond) But is this Allard for real?
Great job. w:

I just read your work... It was very enjoyable, especially to an old cussler addict dating back to '77! I'm hoping you plan on keeping us up to date with any more progress you have made since the printing of the "Code"...
dirkal - March 2, 2005 02:32 PM (GMT)
Very interesting and thought provoking piece of work. I'm just dusting of my copy of PV for another read through with the code close to hand.
Well done to the four of you

Clive's blurb describes this best...mindboggling.
Very well written, informative as well as very thought provoking. And as always, I have no doubt that our dear Helene is a walking Pitt encyclopedia. :)
I found myself, (as I read), trying to see what I , (as a reader), was being led toward. But part of the joy of this book was that I was never sure where I was being led. And even right to the last page, the fact is that one is left to draw their own conlusions is what makes this a great read and a virtual compendium of info on Pacific Vortex.
And one thing is for certain--I'll neer look at that novel quite the same way again.
Good job all around, and congrats on a fine publication.

I thought that I read between the lines while reading a book! My hat is off to you and all of your intuitions. 'The Clive Cussler Code' is an awesome read. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. Sean, be sure to let everyone know when we can order an autographed copy of your novel. Definately looking forward to it.

I think my mind is so boggled because I read the whole thing in about 6 hours (including a sit-down dinner with my family) . The book is well-conceived and well-written. Nice job everyone! I can't help but be a little bit skeptical at some of the conclusions as I tend to resist conspiracy theories, but most of yours don't tend to be too much of a stretch. (I also tend to take things at entertainment and face value without reading too much into deeper meanings). All in all, a very intriguing work, and again, well written. I'm already looking forward to the second installment, as you have already promised. th: th:

In thinking about this some more, and in light of WADERA6A's recent inquiry, I really like the idea that the original manuscript included DP spending much more time on Kanoli and getting to know Summer on a more intimate level. I've always been perplexed by how madly in love with her he was and how her death affected him so deeply. In the published version, it just didn't seem like he had enough contact with her to develop such strong emotions (especially since they didn't even have time to "consumate" a physical relationship, let alone an emotional one).
I don't know if you guys made up this Allard character, if his comments actually occurred, if he was trying to throw you off track, or if what he said was true, but it certainly made a lot of sense to me that there were many more scenes between DP and Summer that had been cut.

Recieved copy 2 hrs. ago...just finished reading it.A very well put together read.Leaves me wondering..is this a well put together novel?...or a factual chronical of an investigation disguised as a novel or vice versa?Yes,I know,I'm either a little slow on the uptake or a little naive but in the end I liked it and if you do another one or a sequel I'll certainly buy it.To Tony,Sean,Helene and Rob,well done and thank you. Pat.

I enjoyed that you figured out that there was much more to Clive's first novel than was published and that helps answer a log of 'things' that happened in future novels. As someone above mentioned - Clive remembered the original novel as he was writing future novels.
What I didn't like - I feel you left me hanging. You didn't solve the mystery or come up with the complete code. Left me wondering???? Maybe that is the intent of the book. I also thought that the book would be about some type of code running through all the books - something that once known would make sense or once known would be a 'WOW' type of realization.
It would be interesting to get a copy of the original book. Although, we might find ourselves not liking that style. ????
I enjoyed the book, and loved appendix 3 & 4.

I finished the “Code” yesterday, and as with all things Cussler, found it fascinating, and would certainly welcome any future extensions of the thesis. Great work, people!
OK, a couple of observations:
Of course, like many, I now begin the re-read of PV with closer attention, as well as another run through the Code. I am also compelled to search for the UK Sphere publication. (The real prize would be the original manuscript, but that’s not likely to slip out.)
My particular interest is not so much the quest for consistency, continuity, or the exposure of some diabolical revelation… My interest is more in Clive’s evolution from one writing style to another, and the understanding of what it is that makes his works so compelling. I’m about 2/3 of the way through my own work of action fiction, and would welcome insight wherever I can find it.
I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to have a series of books, written over 40 years, scrutinized so closely. Not just for errors, but trends, messages, or ?
Then there is the reference to an early favorite action hero of mine: Doc Savage. I thought at the time that the reference to the “gold flecked eyes” was no coincidence.
I’ll see how I feel after the next run through. Thanks again -pete

Got it!,
Read it,
Flabbergasted! :o
An excellent read, and so very well written I forgot I was'nt reading one of Clives own books! th:
Is there going to be a sequel? a coninuation of the chase, as more clues to the code are discovered?.
If so, put me down for a copy! beer:
(and could I have it signed?)

Tony & Sean,
Received the book yesterday and read the majority of it last night after I got home from work.
So far it is riveting!
Job well done, as soon as there was something extra written I had to have it. It's a worthy addition to my collection.
Regards
Craig

Edit - Finished and was a little dissapointed at the open ending. Can't wait for the next installment, interestingly enough my edition of the book is the UK edition! Didn't even realise hehe.
Dear_Heart05 - February 19, 2006 11:57 AM (GMT)
I got it today...or should I say yesterday, and just finished it. Don't worry though, it didn't take me that long to read it, I had breaks. :P
I LOVED it!!!!! I ate up ever word, and im still craving for more.
-One question......
How much of Clive's involvment in the book was real?
I almost peed my pants when I read what Clive signed in the book.
PS- I personally think that Allard character was Clive Cussler himself. det:
Well done to all involved. th:

Excellent book. Very well put together, and very thought provoking.
All of the inconsistencies and reoccurring themes were very cleverly brought to light. A good portion of these I had noticed in my reading also. I just didn't ever take them as far as you did and piece them together.
It seems to me though, that one theme that comes up in almost every book was left out. That would be red hair.
So many of the female characters have flaming red hair (and green eyes I believe). Even Admiral Sandecker is constantly described with bright red hair.
Considering the detail that you uncovered on everything else, I was shocked that this was overlooked. Or, maybe it wasn't.
Hopefully you will have a second edition, a continuation of the deciphering process, in the future. Maybe you could explain Clive's fascination with red hair there, or possibly dispel it.
Anyway, congratulations on the incredible work you put together. It was an incredibly fascinating read, especially, since I had noticed many of the items you mentioned myself.
