Madrid native Penelope Cruz reacted with shock yesterday to the horror bombings in the Spanish capital.

"She's very upset about it," her rep told us yesterday. "Penelope is in Rome, promoting her movie 'Don't Move.' She's been on the phone with friends and family, making sure they're all okay. We think everyone is safe."

Cruz was briefly the (false) subject of her own health scare this week. Britain's Daily Star reported that her beau, Tom Cruise, jetted to Morocco after she collapsed on the set of "Sahara" from heat exhaustion. "Penelope had heard that someone else had collapsed," her spokesman says. "But she says, 'I'm not sick and I'm not suffering from exhaustion. And Tom did not rush to my side. He has not been there yet.'"

Cruz returns to Morocco on Saturday.
