Penelope Cruz and Matthew McConaughey have been speaking about their latest film, Sahara.
The film is about master explorer Dirk Pitt, played by McConaughey, who finds a fabled coin and embarks on the adventure of his life when he begins a search for a hidden treasure in some of the most dangerous regions of West Africa.
The action movie also stars William H Macy and Steve Zahn.
McConaughey said he was drawn to the versatility of his character.
He said: "I got turned onto the books, got turned onto the character.
"Saw a guy who - that renaissance man, the guy who is at home in many places, has that dexterity to sit down with the president in the afternoon and, sit down with a smuggler, dealing gold bullion in the evening, you know."
Cruz, who plays his love interest, said she sees a lot of herself in her character.
"I identify with her in the adventurous spirit that she has.
"You know, I'm a very curious person and I love travelling and I don't mind going to places that could maybe seem scary at the beginning, or, unknown.
"I think I have that in common with her," she said.
Sahara is the first of three films featuring the Dirk Pitt and friends characters, based on books written by Clive Cussler.
The film opens in the UK on April 8.
