Thirty-two years and 16 novels later, the maverick actor is bringing the action hero to life on the big screen in "Sahara."
To promote the movie, McConaughey, 35, has hit the road in his pickup truck, hauling a customized Airstream trailer emblazoned with the "Sahara" logo and images from the movie. The trailer is equipped with all the creature comforts a Hollywood star could desire and offers the ultimate mobility. Plus, McConaughey, who sports a three-day beard growth, relishes seeing the expressions of other motorists on the highway when they recognize him behind the wheel.
"I like the five-star treatment but I like the trailer as well. It means freedom to me," says the curly-haired actor, grinning.

McConaughey's cross-country trek has taken him from his ranch outside of Austin, Texas, to New York, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Los Angeles and several stops in between. He visited Robins Air Force Base in Macon, Ga., to screen the sweeping action-adventure for the troops. He also served as grand marshal of the Daytona 500.
