Title: Long Time Fan, First Time Complainer
Description: Why I like Clive Cussler books.

I read my first Clive Cussler book, Vixen 03, when I was stationed on a Coast Guard cutter in the Bering Sea in the winter of 1982. I hope that qualifies me as a true fan. I have been reading them ever since but not because of Dirk Pitt’s hair or eye color, and not because of the ethnicity of Al. I read them because they are full of adventure, because they incorporate history, and because they usually take place in or around water. Most often the ocean.
Now that I am cubicle-bound; reading Dirk Pitt books take me back to my brief time of adventure.
I know I’ll probably get a lot of gruff for this but; Sahara rates far down on the list of favorite Cussler books. I never felt that he incorporated the ironclad into the modern story at all. It looks like in the movie they ‘fix’ that. I’m actually looking forward to seeing it.
Is there anyone else who feels like I do?
To the makers, might I suggest adapting Night Probe! next.

I agree. The Linclon kidnapping never made sense and I thinik the book in general is one of his more far-fetched ones. With that being said, I will be the first in line on Friday! I am a big supporter of Clive and all of his writings.

It's been a loooong time since I read Sahara, but it was far from my favorite at the time.

Personally, I'd like to see a faithful adaptation of Vixen 03.

Im going to have to agree with fossgly on this one. In all previous Pitt novels Cussler takes a moment in history, manipulates it, makes you shove it back to your mind than springs it on you in the end for the climax.....

In Sahara I always felt the two story lines never really joined back up and that they remained seperate throughout.....

my favorites were Raise the Titanic, Night Probe, Vixen 03 and Cyclops.....but truly I enjoyed them all, just some were better than others.....

I think I must be aligned with Brust because his four favorites are also mine. It seems that after that the books just had the megalomaniac dejour.
