Actually, given that location it somehow seems appropriate that the sands of time moved so very slowly in Hollywood for "Sahara," opening Friday from Paramount and Bristol Bay Productions in association with Baldwin Entertainment Group. Directed by Breck Eisner, it stars Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn and Penelope Cruz. Also starring are Lambert Wilson, Glynn Turman, Delroy Lindo and William H. Macy.
"Sahara's" screenplay by Thomas Dean Donnelly & Joshua Oppenheimer and John C. Richards and James V. Hart is based on the novel by Clive Cussler. When the book was published in 1992 it was the 11th in Cussler's best-selling series, which now numbers 18, revolving around master explorer and deep-sea expert Dirk Pitt, who's played in the film by McConaughey. "Sahara" was produced by Howard Baldwin, Karen Baldwin, Mace Neufeld and Stephanie Austin and executive produced by McConaughey, Gus Gustawes, William J. Immerman and Vicki Dee Rock.
