Although he's often cast as the slacker sidekick in films like Joyride and Saving Silverman, Steve Zahn is actually a classically trained actor. He has a theatrical background, which started when he was cast in the lead role of Biloxi Blues during his freshman year of high school. Zahn's first major film role came in the Tom Hanks-directed That Thing You Do and he soon parlayed that attention into key roles in Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight and the indie film Happy, Texas, for which he won the Independent Spirit Award for best actor. He's recently also demonstrated a dramatic side to his talents in Riding in Cars with Boys and Shattered Glass.

Zahn's latest role finds him getting a chance to try his hand at the action genre while also mixing in his trademark comical skills. Zahn plays Al Giordino in Sahara, the first of author Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt novels to be translated to screen since the 1980 box office flop Raise the Titanic. Directed by the son of Michael Eisner, Breck Eisner, Matthew McConaughey plays Dirk Pitt and Penelope Cruz is damsel in distress Dr. Eva Rojas. Pitt and Giordino are adventurers in search of a Ironclad battleship that's been missing for 150 years. The search soon finds them entangled in a larger crisis which could ultimately threaten the water supply of the entire world.
