While promoting 'Sahara,' the actor discusses moviemaking, war veterans and 'j.k.livin''

But on this afternoon in early March, the actor was facing the kinds of conditions usually found in the Arctic tundra: He was attempting to do a TV interview in the parking lot of the Star Southfield theater complex while trying to fend off a fierce wind that put an extra chill in the already-frigid air. Sun and fun were both in short supply.
But McConaughey, bundled up in a hefty green down jacket, a scarf and a "Sahara" promotional baseball cap, kept his cool, even as technical glitches forced him to answer the same question repeatedly while a cameraman tried to adjust a microphone. The wind roared through the valet parking station where McConaughey stood, causing onlookers to shiver and gasp. But McConaughey remained still, smiled for the camera and told the TV reporter again how excited he was to be in the Detroit area.
It was an impressive performance.
