A great promo story to release as Sahara opens. ;)

Matthew Mcconaughey was almost killed on the African set of his new movie "Sahara," and he fears no-one back home in America would have ever found out what happened to him.

The Texan actor enjoyed a scary encounter with a crocodile in a very remote part of Morocco.

He says, "You know what the funny thing is? If I had been eaten alive by a croc, the news would not have made it back home. It's a place where there isn't any telephone or electricity but I figured, if I'm going to go that way, then I've already been written off as part of the food chain."

"Sahara" is set in 1996, Egypt. Searching for a treasure on the Nile, Dirk Pitt (Mcconaughey) thwarts the attempted assassination of a beautiful U.N. scientist investigating a disease that is driving thousands of North Africans into madness, cannibalism, and death.

The suspected cause of the raging epidemic is vast, unprecedented pollution that threatens to extinguish all life in the world's seas. Racing to save the world from environmental catastrophe, Pitt and his team, equipped with an extraordinary, state-of-the-art yacht, run a gauntlet between a billionaire industrialist and a bloodthirsty West African tyrant.

In the scorching desert, Pitt finds a gold mine manned by slaves and uncovers the truth behind two enduring mysteries -- the fate of a Civil War ironclad and its secret connection with Lincoln's assassination, and the last flight of a long-lost female pilot....

Actually, I think the article is completely wrong.

When MM went on Conan about a year ago, he told some story about a bear and how he would fight one. Anyway, in his demonstration, he got Conan involved and it was rather physical and the audience enjoyed it.

When he was on recently for 'Sahara', Conan was like, got anymore survival tips. Anyway, Conana became a crocodile and MM reacted.

So, it's all fiction.

Not that any of this really matters -- just thought I'd set the record straight.
