As I am running to the theatre extremely late for the screening, I began thinking about this film. Of course I always do this, my pre-expectations of a film before I even see it. I begin to pick apart what I think will be a predictable Raiders of the Lost Ark rip off. How am I going to review a movie that pretty much everyone has seen, because you already know they are going to take from every movie in the genre. I give the nice man my ticket grab my popcorn and find the last seat available five rows back from the front. Who cares I already know what I am in for right? WRONG! I know by now you are thinking "Does she ever not like a movie?" My answer to you would be Ishtar...that aside.

From the moment this movie started I was on the edge of my seat. This wasn't a Raiders rip off, this wasn't a James Bond wanna be. Although listen to the musical score, it has moments of Goldfinger throughout, and Al would be a good "Q" to Pitts "Bond". Dirk Pitt was his own man, his own head strong, extremely HOT man (oh come on you knew I was going to throw that in there somewhere). Of course he wouldn't be anything without his sidekick Al Giordino played by Steve Zahn. Zahn as usual adds a great amount of comic relief to the movie. However unlike most of his roles, he isn't just the comedian, he kicks butt. When Dirk finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, Al is always there to help him out. The chemistry between Matthew and Steve was incredibly believable I never thought for a moment that these two didn't grow up together. The banter and timing was fantastic, they truly complimented each other. Penelope Cruz as Dr. Eva Rojas was actually a welcome surprise to me. Not being a big fan she was on the top of my Pre-expectations list. However I walked out of the movie a little bit of a fan.

Ok so a low down on the story, well there are actually two stories that come together. Pitt is an adventurer and treasure seeker, but there has been one treasure he believes exists but has yet to find. A long lost Civil War Battleship believed to have traveled all the way to Africa. It is his passion to find this as he seems to be the only one who believes it exists.

Eva has been tracking down the cause of a mysterious illness, and obviously stumbles upon something someone wants to keep quiet. Pitt comes to Eva's rescue after she is attacked by three very scary men. They come to find they are looking for different things but they are located basically in the same place. As Pitt and Al set out to begin their journey for the lost ship, they end up taking the Doc and her Boss along with them. They drop the Doctors off at their destination and continue toward their treasure. They soon find themselves in a rather sticky situation with some of the local military men. You discover that they are really after the Doctors. Some great speed boat action later they decide they need to find the Doctors and warn them. This is where the true fun begins. Throughout all of this, we encounter some great action scenes. My friend literally jumped a few times and let out squeals of excitement when our heroes would overcome the bad guys.

The adventures keep on coming and the story continually unfolds, to reveal the true origin for the sickness, the bad people that started it, and maybe a few hidden treasures along the way. What can I tell ya, once again my pre-expectations were all wrong. I truly loved this flick, it had action, incredibly likeable characters, and I will say it...I look forward to a sequel. I love a good action romp and this one definitely delivered.
