DirkPitt - May 25, 2005 03:36 AM (GMT)
Product Description:The author of the bestselling NUMA and Dirk Pitt series returns with an all-new novel of adventure and intrigue featuring his unbeatable hero of the high seas-Juan Cabrillo.
Cabrillo and his motley crew aboard the clandestine spy ship Oregon have made a very comfortable and very dangerous living working for high-powered Western interests. But their newest clients have come from the Far East to ask for Cabrillo's special brand of assistance: a consortium of Japanese shipping magnates whose fortunes are being threatened by brutal pirates trolling the waters of Southeast Asia.
Normally, such attacks on the high seas are limited to smaller ships and foreign-owned yachts-easy targets on the open ocean. Now, however, giant commercial freighters are disappearing. But when Cabrillo confronts the enemy, he learns that the pirates' predations hide a deadly international conspiracy-a scheme of death and slavery that Juan Cabrillo is going to blow out of the water.

Since i finished every CC book I could get my hands on, I started reading Jack DuBrul when I found out they were collaborating. I think we should all find him to be extremely competant in countinuing the series, as his books are very similar to Clive's as far as content and writing style.
Ace Roberts - May 27, 2005 09:09 PM (GMT)
You will all like Jack's books - they are very detailed like Clive and have characters that jump out of the pages right into your soul. Philip Mercer and his pal Harry will delight you and you'll wish you could join them for a drink at Tiny's (and I don't drink!). What I like about Jack's style is his attention to detail - something as an aspiring author I struggle with. Dark Watch and future Oregon Files adventures are in good hands with Jack DuBrul - I can't wait until November for Juan and then for his next Mercer book (I assume in 2006).

Bought it on the weekend, am half way through at the moment. Is an awesome read so far, I can't put it down! Disspointed in its size though, it's nowhere near as thick as most of CC's books.
Ace Roberts - November 2, 2005 05:22 PM (GMT)
I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy of the book signed by Jack and then I got Clive to sign it in Denver at the convention. Let me say that this is easily the best Juan Cabrillo adventure - hands down. That's not putting Craig Dirgo down - but making it clear that Jack Du Brul has made an impact with this book. The plot is plausible, entertaining, and the characters jump off the pages. Jack has kept in tact the history and background that Craig painted in the first two books - yet expanded it in a way that makes Juan and the Oregon much more appealing. I won't add spoliers, but will say at the end of this book you will immediately want more. I hope everyone runs out and purchases this book (and all of Jack's Philip Mercer series) because it is an excellent read.

sounds fishy to me...
Question: Is there any good reason to read Sacred Stone before Dark Watch?
FLI355 - November 3, 2005 01:57 AM (GMT)
Just finished the book, not much that I can say other than DAMN!!!! What a great read!!! Couldn't put it down, the plot raced along like a greyhound on the juice. Well done to Jack DuBrul, a welcome edition to the oregon files. Let me say that anyone that reads this book shouldn't be disspointed and should get out there and buy it.... NOW!!! Beleive me when I say you're in for the ride of your life ;)

Fantastic!! It was a great book, and this is from a person who didn't like the Oregon Files books. I suggest everyone go read it. You won't be disappointed! :)

I just started Dark Watch.
I started reading Jack Dubrul after finishing alll of CC's books. I really enjoy his style. Needless to say I am NOT disappointed with Dark Watch and I am only on page 91 and already thinking about the next adventure. Too bad we have to wait so long between books! This is the best Juan Cabrillo adventure since his intro in Flood Tide.
Jack, if you are reading any of these posts, let us know when another Mercer book will hit the stands. I think your fan base will increase after this!
Ace Roberts - November 7, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
Courtney,
Jack sent the finished manuscript of his next Philip Mercer book titled Havoc to the publishers about a month ago. It will be published by Putnum in the spring of 2006 in hardcover. Mercer goes to Egypt, Moscow and Niagara Falls in this adventure - I know all of his fans eagerly await it!!
CusslerFanatic - November 10, 2005 11:52 PM (GMT)

As a matter of fact (ok, personal opinion) you should read it first as it's a great book :)
Ace Roberts - November 18, 2005 06:15 PM (GMT)
Courtney,
I have insight to Jack through a number of sources - but my main one is our good friend, Papa Jim who is a dear friend to him - and speaks with him regularly. You might want to check out Jack's book River of Ruin on page 429 - that pretty well shows how close they are!! The character Jim Patke is our own Papa Jim!
Aaron James - November 22, 2005 05:17 PM (GMT)
I have noticed a huge difference in the style of this books compared to other Oregon books. Debrul has made a positive addition to the series. I hope the next book will be in fineally be in hard cover.

HI there, first of all let me say that I am new to this site and after briefly looking through it, I must say I am impressed with all of the CC fan's out there.
I have all of Clive's books and was wondering if anyone can answer why CC's new book Dark Watch is a softback instead of a normal hardback? All the books I have are Hardback first editions?
Keep up the good work and thanks for the great site.
courtney - December 2, 2005 12:36 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Ace! Have read all of Jack's books. I will look that reference up.

Welcome carlrclayton w:
All three of the Oregon Files books have come out in the US as softback, in the UK they are hardback though th:
And this will have to be confirmed by someone stateside - shouldn't be too hard to find one hehe I think the NUMA Files books also came out in softback
Is that right??
Aaron James - December 12, 2005 08:43 PM (GMT)
I have finished Dark Watch. It was the best of the Oregon series. I did notice an edge in these books that was missing from the previous two. I did notice Debrul's hand in this book. I could be wrong but, I think the sections of the book about Eddie Seng were written by DeBrul. Cussler picked up the Cabrillo parts.
It was action packed and kept my attention. I would recomond this book to any Cussler fan.
