Thanks for posting this and the banner :) We have opened a topic for feedback on this board, so those who are not members of the CCDB, do not need to register there.

I'll copy a couple of my comments to here...

Final destination

Brilliant writing! Very descriptive without getting boring, I actually want to be in Moscow and see it all! Very good use of language.

Good suspense built in, one really wants to know what is happening further on.

What can be better? Hmmm - please finish the novel!

It won't let me download.

Ace Roberts - June 25, 2005 06:28 PM (GMT)
Tonym5,
There is nothing built into the system of the website to prevent you from downloading the stories. I'm told my story, Snap H.O.O.K. is hard to download on dialup because it is a PDF file and is 273 pages long (i.e. a full-length novel). It goes real fast on broadband - so I hope this isn't what you are experiencing.

I double checked, I'm on dial-up modem and it works fine.

Ace Roberts - June 25, 2005 09:49 PM (GMT)
I just checked each story - and everything is fine. The site is up and working as it should. I can't imagine what the issue is with your computer, Tonym5? I'm sorry you are experiencing this!!

Any luck, Tony?

Has anyone else read any of the stories? I've read the <10 category so far and was pleasantly surprised, they are all interesting in their own right and it's going to be very difficult to choose just one.

Lat has been emailing the stories to me kelly. I am still reading Final Destination. w:

I'm going to add some comments about the shortest story (The Recruit) and the longest (Snaphook). Only when someone else has posted feedback, will I post again... :)

I'll try and avoid spoilers, but there might be some!

The Recruit

Good short story! It would be great if this contest will grow to a point where the short story writers can have their own category.

In less than 2 500 words you have written all the details we need to know. We know who David Applegate is, and how his life becomes a platform for this entire story. It reads easy, keeps the tension, and then, the essential aspect of a good short story -the twist.

Snaphook

Thought you knew everything because you watched X-files - At times one forget that you are reading the narrations of Ace Roberts PGA/CIA. It gets quite exciting at times! Good suspense built into the story. The golf course gives one a breather, but only just - you thought you had a good historical reference point when the next thing happens, and you just wonder how an author can do this to his characters ;). Some good humour has been written in, sometimes quite subtle...

At the end of the day you will be surprised about what you did not know about your country's history! ;)

As a contestant in the competition - and as a Lit Idol crew member - I felt it "appropriate" to remain silent and let MIG73 and Latimeria be the authors of our updates. However - as the deadline ticks away (and since circumstances ended up having my story as the only >10K word entry) - I feel I can now ethically comment - so I want to challenge ALL registered members of this board to particpate in this contest.

I've heard Clive say that one of his fondest and humblest forms of receiving an accolade (and believe me he gets a lot) is to have someone tell him they became a writer because of his work. The authors in this contest, for the most part, decided to write because they were inspired by Clive Cussler. Please honor him and these authors by taking a few moments of your time and (in the <10K category) read, vote, and provide comments on these great stories.

Just under 12 hours left....! :o

I don't know if anyone has read Snap H.O.O.K (WOO HOO I think I got it right that time) but this is what I thought about it.

The first thing that caught my attention was the golf theme (not a good start) however it worked really well and I couldn't imagine the story without the golf aspect to it. I loved the character of Debra, such a strong female lead instead of the woman that always needs to be saved. I really liked how key events in history were pretty much re-worked to fit in with the story...very clever. Not to mention all the action wow, If I was to go on I'd probably take the next full page of the forum to describe everything I liked (or didn't..yeah right) so I think it can be summarized in a few words...Pure and Simple Ace Roberts has gained a fan!!

I hope you have all read it or at least intend too.
