Title: Canada In Cussler's Books

flyguyty89 - September 5, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
Hey , does any one know why Clive puts some reference to Canada in almost every book? As a Canadian it makes me feel proud that a major american author uses my country in amazing pieces of literature.

Never actually realized that, to be honest. But a good point--I'll have to look more closely next time ;)

Like Rodney Dangerfield, Canada deserves Respect. :)

well, its pretty common in many books..

but there are also quite a few "australian" references also. Little things here or there.
(not to mention an entire book based on an aussie "madman")

Fact remains that he uses then in his books for the beautiful landscape...in both Canada and Australia...then again he loves to mention his home state of Colorado too...and not to mention, my little city got a cameo in Valhalla Rising during Pitts nice little fly by over NYC...

I noticed Canada being mentioned alot, I think its great (well then im probably biased because I live in Canada)

Haha. Now if only Cussler will add more Florida and Texas into his novels. They have both been mentioned a few times here or there... Pitt has been to both states in his travels right? Wasn't he in Texas some during Treasure and in Florida during Deep Six?

He was in both places in his books. He was also in N.Y. He was in Hudson Bay and N.Y. city.

Well, he and Al need to come visit me here in Florida!! I mean, the oceans surrounds us on THREE sides!! t: b: snor: There is so much that they could do here!!!!

Hehehe, sadly i have accepted the fact that my little home state of Idaho has NO chance whatsoever showing up in future DP novels. But who knows...maybe one day the land of many, many potatos will get lucky.

I think Texas should be included a couple more times, I'm not asking much, maybe about 20 references per book, :P . Cussler has mentioned my own town of Corpus Christi once where Dirk stopped over at our military base, imagine that, I was so excited when I read that. More Texas though, definitely, it's such a big state I think it deserves it, haha, I'm just a tad biased!

shark, have'nt you read Cyclops? Florida is definitely in that novel! Dear_Heart I have mentioned Idaho in my "Grandmaster" fan fiction story that you can find in the fan fiction category on this site. w: And Cussler has even mentioned New Mexico in the Deep Six novel I do believe. I lived there for a couple of years when I was a kid. It would be nice to see Ohio mentioned in a Cussler book. :)

Matt, I concur about the whole "more Texas" thing. I'm from Garland.

Tony, I was thinking of Cyclops but I put Deep Six... I know they were in Miami...in fact wasn't he there on like vacation? He was in a race when he saved the day!

I guess I just want more! ;) Who wouldn't want more of Dirk in their state?!?

When they were in the Pirates of the Caribbean...they were in Cali right?

You also had the Texas in Sahara, what more do you want???

Dirk even had a running gun battle on the Mississippi. Who can forget turning a paddle wheel steamer into a gunboat on his run through Louisiana.

One of my favorite scenes! It's just pure, classic Cussler. th:

Haha. I thought the same thing myself. Only reading a Cussler novel are you going to get crazy things like the South living again!
