Title: Sahara Deleted Scenes
Description: Opinions??
Kellym - September 6, 2005 01:37 PM (GMT)
For those who have seen the deleted scenes it's opinion time, any scenes you think should have been left in? Any scene you're glad got taken out?
Kitty Mannock's Crash & Finding Kitty Mannock's Plane: I liked watching the Kitty scenes but I don't think it took anything away from the movie not having it in...personally.
The Long Kiss: hmmmm sure Zahn was funny in the scene but I prefered the ending we got ;)
Oceanographers Dying In The Desert: Now I really really wish they had kept in this scene, I mean for a couple extra seconds of film it would have explained a bit more about Dirk and Al.
Anyway that is what I think, you?

Personally, I felt like each scene was unneccessary and could totally see why they cut them.
Had the Kitty Mannock scene been left in, it would have been confusing since she would not be brought back into the movie until much, much, much later! The only reason to include the scene would have been to explain the presence of an airplane in the desert, but I think that situation explains itself.
Was it just me or did the Long Kiss scene just seem to be nothing more than a blooper. Watch the end...MM slaps SZ in the gut for goofing off and Zahn replies with a less-than-professional goofy grin...
Finally, I felt the dying oceanographers scene seemed out of place for the character of Al Giordino. He didn't look as determined and stable as Dirk Pitt, however on further thought I could see them playing on his frustration with being pulled along the adventure by Pitt.
Anyway, that's my $0.02. ;)

I have to agree with the reasoning behind the removal of the Kitty Mannock scene, even if we were outraged at first. It really would have been confusing to the 'casual' moviegoer that wouldn't be familiar with the story like we all were before watching. It would have slowed the story down in the sense that the big historical "preface" with the Civil War was possibly confusing on it's own to some.
I, like Andy, felt that the extended "Kiss" sequence was more of a blooper than anything, and Eisner pretty much confirmed in the commentary that he let Zahn go off and ad-lib. It was funny, but I'm glad they left it out, and it gave more significance to the beach scene soon after.

Dayna Cussler .... Kitty Mannock (scenes deleted)
what a shame! couldn't even get the one staring family member onto the big screen! alas.. <_<

I think they threw in an insult by deleting the kitty mannock scene. I mean this was cussler's daughter and not only did they completely fudge up the script but then they cut his daughter OUT! What noifes

cutting Cussler's daughter out was cold but, Andyhuff said the causal movie goer would have no idea what it was about.
As for the dying oceanographer in the desert it was in the book. Al was very close to biting the dust. Pardon the pun. I think it should have been in there.
It's just one person's opinon

First ever post..........don't know if anyone posted this but here goes...Does anyone out there think that dirk and/or al are singing "minnie the mermaid" as they walk with the truck bed liner over their head as they are walking in the sands of the sahara?

You know, I've always wondered what Al was singing in that scene? Thanks for bringing it up th:

It was actually a song that Matthew McConaughey wrote himself. Not sure about the title, I'll try and find out more for you all.

about the Kitty scene.. in the actual movie there is still a bit of Kitty's hand (briefly) sticking out of the ground when they "fall" to the bottom of the sand dune. Watch that bit in slow-mo and you'll still see Kitty's hand sticky out of the ground.
Obviously the deleted are better explained. Also Danya's "aussie" accent wasn't that great. But I'll give it a pass.
The other deleted scenes weren't even worth putting on the DVD.

Kitty's hand may have sticking out but no one knew who she was and why she was there.

Hey w: . Im reading Sahara again and I noticed that the deleted scene where Al is laughing in the desert due to the irony of their predicament is also in the book. Unlike the situation in the movie, its when Dirk and Al(no Eva) are in the desert with the car already in their hands, looking for the source of the red tide.... If only there were more of those moments. <_<

For some reason I never make the time to watch the extras on a DVD. I already knew about the deleted Kitty and dying oceanographer scenes from the movie. I just wish that they had been left in the movie.

I bought "Sahara" on DVD. But, there is two minuses about it :
1. DVD Premiere in Poland was on 1th December.
2. There are no deleted scenes on disc (bad luck - 8 distributors and the worst has rights to Sahara).
So my question is : Where can I download the deleted scenes ?
Thanks
Regards
