Title: Black Wind
Description: Why so many decimations?

I enjoyed Black Wind to a point - although not as much as others. What drove me to distraction - and distraction is not a good thing to be driven to when reading fiction - was the over-use and ill-use of the word "decimate" and its variations. I counted 4 or five instances where the word was used and not one of them was appropriate. I have just started reading Sacred Stone and I find it mis-used within the first ten pages!
To 'decimate' is to reduce (or kill) by a tenth. (Latin decim = ten) Used by the Romans after conquering an army. They would 'decimate' or kill one of the enemy in every ten to scare the remaining into pledging loyalty.
Clive is not the only one mis-using this word these days. It is appearing everywhere eg "New Orleans was decimated by Katrina. Huh?
Anyway, I hope Clive or Dirk or whoever is doing the writing these days removes the word from their vocabulary as it destroys my enjoyment.
Apart from that, a pretty good read.
