Note : Going to be released in the US as Seven Deadly Wonders in December.

(For those who don't know) Matthew Reilly is a best selling Aussie author.

This book of his was just released here in Australia. It's an action adventure book. Its got the Dirk Pitt adventure written all over it. A high paced action adventure involving "Treasure Hunting/beating the Bad Guys to the treasure/Save the world" scenarios.

Without spoiling the storyline too much. Its a race-against-the-clock adventure about group of treasure hunters needing to find 7 pieces of treasure thats been hidden in the 7 wonders of the ancient world. They need these pieces to "save the world" or stop the evil-doers from "destroying the world" with it.

I would say its a mix of Stargate/Indiana Jones/Dirk Pitt Adventure. I highly reccomened to fellow Dirk Pitt fans.

For you aussies, if you're quick enough, Borders Books are selling it for $24.95 (RRP of $49.95) for a limited time.

I finished this in two 3 hour sessions. I couldn't put it down.

I loved Temple, can't wait to get this one!

I loved Ice Station, Temple, and Area 7. Contest was not bad. Scarecrow I didn't like as much. While writing it, Reilly had said in some interviews that he was experimenting with making his novels even more fast-paced, and I think he went over the top with Scarecrow. Too many unbelievable, borderline-cartoon escapes, and way too many "AND JUST THEN..." and "AND RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT..." lines. I understand that character, setting and plot are secondary to the action in his novels, but they were too distant a second. I'm interested in Seven Wonders, but I didn't hurry out to the bookstore like I did with the three since Ice Station.

yes true, but MR never claimed to write to win literacy awards.

his no. 1 quote to describe his books... "I like to write big friggin action books"

In hindsight, I wrote this thread just after finishing it. It may have some CC themes to it but i carries more like an action movie rather that a suspenseful DP novel.

all in all, this one is probably much of the same you'd expect from MR.

We tied to get MR to speak at the local high school on his way back to Sydney from Brisbane (he was driving not flying). I had a list of Cussler questions for him. I had emailed that this website would get the results in a post. Then his staff pulled the plug and were very rude to the lady (at Tenterfield High School) who organizing the event.

It would have been interesting. Instead it was confusing.
