Title: New movie yet?
bulldawg68 - December 23, 2005 05:21 PM (GMT)
:P
I haven't been able to find any reference to Inca Gold being made into a movie. I know that the CC movies so far haven't lived up to our expectations, but that doesn't stop me from hoping that they get it as right as we want it to be.
That having been said, does anyone know the latest on any new CC movie?

Haven't heard anything, but I think it's safe to say it could be awhile before Dr. Cussler agrees to have another book made into a movie. :)

It's safe to say that the trial for Clive's lawsuit being pushed out until March 06 put a damper on any serious movement on a new film any time soon. And I'm told these kind of trials are NOT the type that typically end quickly. So - put two and two together and it adds up to 0 in this case. Don't hold your breath for a new film any time soon!!

Unfortunately that's true of litigation in these situations. Long and drawn out.

Bulldawg, my fingers have been crossed since the day I saw the movie. :P

I've got a proposal for Dr Cussler.
Let all the other aspiring writers in this forum (myself included), write the script to the next movie. That way, we'd guarantee that we'd stay true to the book and make it live up to the Dirk Pitt/Clive Cussler name !!
How'd that be Dr Cussler ? (if you're even reading this !)

 We could have a competition to see whose script can win Dr. C's approval!! w:

That would be so awsome if Clive really did come to the forum....Just to think, maybe he's one of us :ph43r: ...I mean, if he joined, do you think he would make his screen name CLIVE CUSSLER??? Hehehe :P , Its fun to think about it...

I thought the company that bought the rights to Sahara bought the rights to two other books. So, regardless of the litigation couldn't they make the movies anyway since they own the rights? Kind of like the Beatles songs and Micheal Jackson owning the rights, Micheal Jackson can do what he wants with them:angry: whether Paul m likes it or not.

I'm not a lawyer, but as I understand it Clive signed a contract with the producers to make three films, Sahara, Inca Gold, and Night Probe.
That contract dictated Clive had director, actor, and screenplay approval. It did NOT include exclusive rights.
Since Sahara was filmed without a screenplay approved by Clive, he is suing for breach of contract.
The producers would be crazy to add additional risk to that suit by filming another movie.

CC should follow a direction movie course and then I shoul direct his-self a movie based on his book. I think he has the money to do this but maybe he is too old to do this. This is science fiction

As much as I don't like to say it, we're probably going to have to wait till DR. Cussler's heirs are in control of things to see any sort of franchise film series, and then it will be too late.
While I'm an admirer of Dr. C's work (been reading him a long time now), the simple fact is, compromises need to be made for film adaptations. The current duo of Dirk and Al (Matthew M and Steve Z) have perfect onscreen chemistry and to waste that would be criminal, IMO. This is a perfect way to introduce more people to the world of Pitt novels, but again...that gets lost in the endless quagmire of litigation. The only ones who will ultimately get the most of this will be attorneys.

Why doesn't he do a film himself? His daughter is into film isn't she?

i wish they shot "Atlantis Found" and may be Rupert Everett can act as Dirk Pitt, well i don't know but more i think about Rupert as Dirk more i like the idea.
what do you guys think? :)
tonym5 - January 10, 2006 11:12 PM (GMT)
Is Rupert Everett even American? He seems more European.
Andy in West Oz - January 10, 2006 11:40 PM (GMT)
Would the actor who played Dirk Pitt have to be an American? CC's first choice was Hugh Jackman who, I am proud to say, is an Aussie.
I thought MM did a pretty good job of it, not quite what we all expected when he was announced as DP but he pulled it off. Rudi was the one that I had a little trouble with, the guy who played him again did a great job with what he was given but the character was completely different. More of a Rudi Yeager!
However, hearing the names of characters that I've "spent" a lot of time with up on the big screen and seeing some of their antics was way cool. Got the names of DP, AG and CC up in front of a lot of people too.
My wife, having just read Sahara when we saw it, said that there was heaps left out and I agreed but it was just good to go and watch a fun film, an adventure!
If IG is to be the next film, can't wait!
Cheers beer:

I would not mind Hugh Jackman in the role. At least I have liked what I have seen of his work. I remember Rupert Everett from Princess Daisy and a couple of other movies.
zep - January 11, 2006 12:17 AM (GMT)
Hugh Jackman is great idea for Dirk too,
by the way Rupert is from Britain
bulldawg68 - February 5, 2006 01:28 AM (GMT)
Definately see Hugh Jackman as possible Dirk Pitt, not Rupert tho
IMO - MM owns the role, does a dern fine job of it, SZ even made me a beleiver
