I keep posting in this area as I love maritime history (which is why I love CC's books). I read the book "Last Call for the HMS Edinburgh" years ago and, owing to my "thing" for Royal Navy cruisers, was intrigued by her story and amazed that she was carrying 45 million pounds of Russian gold. In all honesty, as she is a war grave, the gold didn't turn me on that much! I think a salvage mission was launched in the '80s. Did a bit of research and found that there is a book about the recovery called "Goldfinder" by Keith Jessop. Has anyone read it? Amazon ratings are pretty good.

Found this website, thought it might be of interest.

I know of the book and the ship and I was amazed that they would allow a salavage operation to go on knowing it is a war grave. I mean cameras were barely allowed to stir up silt on the Bismark expedition but then again I guess "Money is the root of all evil" or so the saying goes.

Indeed, and the lure of "treasure" is just too enticing, cancelling out everything else.

Before that glint in your eye gets too much, Tony, it's gone! LOL, the gold was recovered in the '80s.

The book looks like an interesting read though.
