Everybody that knows me well understands I am NOT a self promoter - in fact, I'm just the opposite when it gets right down to it. But this is one of those occasions that I'm going to cross the line and beg for assistance from my on-line friends & family.

I entered a writing contest at a local paper - it's a HUGE event. The winner, along with 11 other well known writers such as Dan Jenkins and Elmer Kelton, will author a part of a serial novel that will have 12 chapters. The winner will not get paid, as all proceeds will go to a charitable organization - but the winner will be published and participate in media events associated with the novel.

We could only write 200 words or less addressing the following theme: A runaway slave is unjustly accused of a hanging - his Civil War friend comes to his aide.
Very difficult to get your idea across in 200 words or less!!

To get to the final 10 - it's essentially a popularity contest. THe most votes gets in! That's why I need votes! Believe me - I HATE ASKING!!
