I have the book in my hands now. Jesus, Mary and Sweet Saint Joseph (as my mother would say), it is far, far, far better than I ever hoped for. Even the bad images have turned out spectacularly good. The printing is bright, colourful and actually the images are very true colour of the actual watches and adverts. I am trying to get Rick's copy out the door right now. Hopefully he will have it on Monday and we can finalize the published copy.
I am absolutely delighed with this. In fact I am even more stoked than when I got my first novel published. Every pain, every late night, every hassle has been more than worth it for this book. If people are half as satisfied as I am with it, it will be a life's achievement for me.
Here are a couple of photos.
The book is US Letter size (8.5 x 11 inches) and soft cover. It is 5/8 of an inch thick. It has 221 numbered pages and 10 other pages including index, acknowledgements etc. I have acknowledged over 100 people who contributed to the book. There are almost 270 images in the book.
This is the review version and has absolutely all the info I could find on Doxa watches and history. It is a review copy and I have one page which has small red lettering on it which says REVIEW COPY AND NOT FOR RESALE. It will be reviewed by myself, Rick and a few others for accuracy and to see which images will need to be removed or modified to comply with copyright. The version you see here will be rarer than rocking horse sh1t.
Doxa will have the final say as to how the public release version will come out.
Me, I'm happy to have it in my hands. This is the definitive history of the Doxa SUB. Is there more to the story....yes, but until I find it.. this is all she wrote. Could the book be better? Yes certainly. Hard cover, foreword by Clive Cussler and heavy duty glossy paper, but then the price would be well over the 53 bucks it cost me to make this version. There is also shipping. From the USA to Europe is expensive, but the publisher has a special free shipping option for a couple more days. Now I have seen it, I'll be ordering copies for my Dad and kids.
This has been a long time coming and represents a long time sitting at a computer, a lot of sore back, sore arse and sore fingers typing and arranging it, but it was absolutely worth it and no matter what people may think of Doxa or Rick Marei this book could not have been made without him. He is the instagation of this book and the new Doxa. I owe him a lot. Thanks Rick!!!!!
Pete
