But no-one is blaming the natives who stopped Luna from being moved 2 years ago because supposedly the spirit of their dead chief had migrated into the poor whale.

The poor thing!!!!!!! Luna deserved better than that.

boissee - March 11, 2006 02:23 AM (GMT)
So what did the chief come back as now?

That's really sad not letting the poor thing go back where he belonged. <_<

Well folks, Luna seemed to like living in the sound. He was also quite a "ham" And common thinking is that his friendly ways are what got him in the end. As said, don't blame the natives, they did try to get him to open waters at first, but when he wouldn't go, they got the idea about the past chief. Whatever, Luna will be remembered and maybe cause a few youngster's to think about marine biology. :P

I am blaming the natives. This is the one thing about Canada that really pisses me off

The DFO had a plan to get Luna reunited with his family but the natives decided that they liked the popularity and tourism dollars that he brought them and gave out the ridiculous story about their chief.Where did the cheifs spirit go this time?
So what that Luna liked it where he was, ultimately he became a menace and yes it's what killed him unfortunately. But if the natives had let the DFO do it's job he may still be alive and living with his family
But I'm sick and tired that everytime the Canadian government tries to do something the natives always cry foul and screw it up.I'm not saying the government is perfect(far from it in my opinion)but they should be able to work without the fear of every native group in the country crying about how hard done by they are. They get everything for free because the government is so scared to insult them and be labelled racist.

Rant over.

I really do feel sad for Luna.

I'm right with you Rob, someone (particular someones) should be held responsible for poor Luna. If they can get a movie star whale to rejoin his pod (Keiko of Free Willy fame) they would have had no problem getting Luna back with her pod. It's appalling when people (of any sort) will exploit animals or anything else for that matter just for their own gain and then claim they have no responsibility for what happened. We've had entire species extirpated in Saskatchewan because of stuff like that.

I can also agree about the government and I don't think its just the Canadian government either. Somewhere along the way society has lost the "good for all mankind" philosophy. I always like Mr. Spock - " the needs of many, out way the needs of the few" But as I said before I hope that Luna's legacy is that a few more kids will think about marine biology as a career path and help mammals like Luna live. th:

Well said Jilly. th: I LOVE Mr. Spock's words of wisdom...
"LIVE LONG AND PROSPER."
In this case, may the whales.

Best reply in any thread, ever.

Though, as a huge Trek nerd, the actually quote was "Admiral, there be whales here". :)

This is awesome! I love Star Trek...but I certainly won't claim that I'm a major Trekkie or anything...but that's great!!

:o Eh Gads I didn't mean to start something. But there are some really good quotes from those old shows. And society could take a look at the meaning behind some of those shows too. So " dammit Jim , lets all "live long and prosper" :)
