 Who is the french guy gonna be. I don't see anybody that could match Massarde. And the Hakim was more middle eastern looking. They have him cast as a black guy. That's just all wrong.
JimmyAEMT-I - April 20, 2004 04:23 PM (GMT)
my guess would be the guy in the lower left corner woul be Yves?? Dunno
Mandasy123 - April 21, 2004 01:44 PM (GMT)
That african guy is off of "Romeo Must Die" and it's a very good movie I think he can act well so he'll probably be good no matter what role he plays. ;)
golferreino2002 - April 22, 2004 12:21 AM (GMT)
The third person from the left. I can't think of who that could be. Hala Kamal perhaps. It can't be loren because she isn't in Sahara the book.
ginger - April 22, 2004 05:10 PM (GMT)
i thibk the guy in the top right is delroy lindo, dont know who he would play. the more pictures i see of matt, the more he grows on me.
ginger - April 22, 2004 05:11 PM (GMT)
still think zahn is all wrong.
hiramyaegar - April 27, 2004 09:02 PM (GMT)
You know, I was thinking the other day, that if it weren't for his hair color, Harry Morgan (when he played Col Potter in MASH) could be Sandecker. He's small, and has a deep voice.
Foss Gly Jr. - April 28, 2004 04:57 PM (GMT)
I see Sandecker as looking like the old actor Gene Evans. If Larry King were in shape and grew a beard, he may look like my vision of Sandecker.I see Pitt as a Tom Selleck type and Al as a young Robert Blake.
Foss Gly Jr. - April 28, 2004 05:02 PM (GMT)
Sandecker would have been played well by a young Gene Evans. I see him with Larry Kings face, but in better shape. Maybe The guy who plays in LasVegas (don't know his name) the ex CIA guy. would make a good Sandecker. St. Julian would have been great done by Orson Wells.
golferreino2002 - April 29, 2004 03:53 AM (GMT)
Sandecker was in his early seventies in Sahara. How is Macy supposed to play that one off?

That's Dayna Cussler. She is playing Kitty Mannock.

I think she is the right Eva Rojas: look at this picture :)

I guess I don`t know who Gene Evans is, but I always envisioned Admiral Sandecker as looking like Burgess Meredith. I agree Tom Selleck would make a good Dirk Pitt. As for Al Giordino, maybe a young Danny Aiello? w:
householdrob - June 2, 2004 03:43 AM (GMT)
How bout this? The guy who plays the boss (I'm thinking zed for some reason) in The Men In Black movies, If he was in a little better shape and had that red van dyke beard would be the perfect Sandecker.
Foss Gly - June 2, 2004 03:52 AM (GMT)
You're thinking of Rip Torn.

He wouldn't be a bad choice, but I think he'd have to get into a little better shape in order to pull the part off, as Sandecker has always been described as being in the best of shape. (A ten mile run evryday will do that for ya!!)

He looks like he's on the tall side. Remember, Sandecker isn't a very tall person. And somehow I can't picture that guy with a flaming red beard.

Found some interesting trivia regarding the movie on imdb. Forgive me if someone has already posted this somewhere.

| At first, Hugh Jackman was close to signing for the role of Dirk Pitt, and as of Summer 2001, filming was proposed to begin by October of that year. However, due to the 9/11 attacks, filming was postponed. It was later delayed again when Jackman was busy with X2 (2003), and he eventually pulled out so that he could appear on Broadway in "The Boy From Oz". Some time later, Tom Cruise was reported to be attached to star as Dirk Pitt, but those rumors were quickly squashed. |
Tom Cruise? yike: As if! Way too short!

According to the website The Numbers(movie info)
http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/2005/SAHAR.phpSahara is to be released in the US on March 25, 2005.
Hmmm ;)
Some interesting info I found. Don't know if anyone has seen it. It mentions Dave's website as a source. :)

I thought that William H Macy would make a perfect Rudy Gunn, but he'll be the Admiral and the guy from six feet under is in it but they havent said who he'll be playing. But i think it's Gunn. I hope it is cause hes one of my favorite characters form it. - Greg
TylerV - September 27, 2004 03:52 AM (GMT)
I remember posting in another subject that I thought Tommy Lee Jones would make a good Sandecker. No way could Tom Cruise be Dirk Pitt, he's like a foot too short. Hugh Jackman could've been a good Pitt, but that's not going to happen.
How about The Rock as Giordino? beer:

How does everyone feel about Penelope being cast in this movie? Speaking to people in general about this movie, most seem to be really excited about it but feel that Penelope is not a good actress and that she may spoil it.
One person told me that she is hard to understand!
Would you agree?
gijane71 - November 28, 2004 02:11 PM (GMT)
w: Hello - just would like to say that yes, I feel she will spoil the movie and she can be difficult to listen to - I have no problem understanding her, just don't like the high whiney voice. Still crying over the fact that Salma Hayak didn't accept the role, or if not her Monica Bellucci would have been nice. As for it being just PC that would "ruin" it? Heck, the casting in general is bad. Here is my ideal cast for the movie - remember this is for film, not how the book would be per se, book to film is like French to English - something lost in translation so you have to make up for it visually:
Dirk Pitt: Hugh Jackman -
http://www.jackmanslanding.com/gallery/mag...s/hughbeach.jpgAl Giordino: Tom Savini -
http://www.savini.com/4fv35.htmEva Rojas : Salma Hayak or Monica Bellucci -

http://www.subotica.net/hit/images/fashion...caBellucci4.jpgSandecker: Sam Shepard - he could pull it off facial hair or not -
http://www.project-equinox.de/dvd/pictures...sam_shepard.jpgThe others I am still trying to figure out but that is what I have so far -

Hugh Jackman would have been the PERFECT Dirk Pitt! He is like the only one that I actually could see as being Pitt!
SummerPitt - December 20, 2004 12:36 AM (GMT)
I can't BELIEVE the choice they've made for Al Giordino. That guy is supposed to be the tough, barrel chested, strong as an ox, but with a heart of gold Al Giordino?
Which books did the casting directors read exactly? Not the same ones as me obviously <_<
CHARLEE - February 6, 2005 07:19 PM (GMT)
YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING...MATTHEW MACCOUGHNEY AS DIRK PITT.... HE LOOKS AWFUL WITH THE TOO LONG AND GREASY HAIR AND THE SKINNY BODY, NOT THAT OF A FOOTBALL PLAYER. DIRK IS SUPPOSE TO BE MACHO, TOM SELLECK OR HUGH JACKMAN WOUD HAVE BEEN BETTER CHOICES. TOO BAD THAT BURT REYNOLDS IS TOO OLD , HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT GIORDINO.
RIP TORN AS SANDECKER ABSOLUTELY!!!! IF THEY CAN DYE OLE MATTS HAIR THEY COULD DO HIS. HE IS SUPPOSE TO BE NEARING LATE 60S. WHAT'S WITH CRUZ, YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND HER MOST OF THE TIME AND I GUESS YOU DON'T HAVAE TO BE ABLE TO ACT....PERHAPS IN THE NEXT MOVIE THEY WILL CHANGE THE ACTORS AFTER ALL THEY DID IT IN "JAMES BOND."

soxanaticfay - March 2, 2005 04:34 AM (GMT)
Although I think that Macy is one of the greatest actors of our time, I think that ED HARRIS would've made a great Sandecker. He's who I always picture when I read the books. I think that Matthew Mc. is going to make a great Pitt, he's gorgeous, but in a rugged way, and he's a smartass too boot. I cannot wait to see this movie - I hope it does Cussler proud.

Rainn Wilson is playing Rudi Gunn. He's only been in Baadasssss! (2004) and House of 1000 Corpses (2003). I think he could do a good Rudi but he doesn't look administrative enough to me. We'll see though.

I like that they picked William H. Macy as Sandecker (besides the fact he doesn't have red facial hair) :)

I've always felt that Macy is too much of a whiner to play an authority figure such as Sandecker. If you check out the new clip on the mtv web log site you get a little of that coming through when he's talking about "every time we come to Africa."
Don't get me started on that little rewrite of Clive's book though. DP definitely was not obsessed with the Texas in the book. Ah well.

The trailers have Zahn acting..well....goofy. My wife who has read all the books did not like Zahn in the role at all. He is just not bull-like enough and I can't imagine him having the physical presense necessary to pull it off.
