Title: Check out this blatant plagiarism!

I came across this excerpt from an online novel. See if it reminds you of something! :o
Like most women, Blaze liked a take-charge man. She also liked the way
Axel kept his light but firm grip on her hand on the ride up to the restaurant.
The waiter showed them to a table beside a window with a spectacular
view of Los Angeles. A universe of lights sparkled in the evening haze. The
bridges over the river were jammed with honking cars that fanned out on the
streets and mingled with the delivery trucks and tourist buses.
“Unless you prefer a cocktail,” said Axel, “I suggest that we stay with
wine.”
Blaze nodded and flashed a satisfied smile. “Fine by me. Why don’t you
order the courses as well?”
“I love an adventurous soul,” he smiled. He studied the wine list briefly.
“We’ll try a bottle of Grenaclis Village.”
“Very good,” the waiter said. “One of our best local dry white wines.”
Axel then ordered an appetiser dip of ground sesame seeds with eggplant,
a yoghurt dish called leban zabadi, and a tray of pickled vegetables with a
basket of whole wheat pita bread.http://www.streetsofrage.org.uk/SoRsaga.pdfThe really weird thing about it is it seems to be tied into some old SEGA game called "The Streets of Rage"
http://www.streetsofrage.org.uk/Compare the above exerpt to this exerpt from Clive Cussler's book, Sahara ;
Like most women, Eva liked a take-charge man. She also liked the way he kept his light but firm grip on her hand on the ride up to the restaurant.
The maitre d' showed them to a table beside a window with a spectacular view of Cairo and the Nile. A universe of lights sparkled in the evening haze. The bridges over the river were jammed with honking autos that fanned out on the streets and mingled with the horse-drawn delivery wagons and tourist carriages.
"Unless you prefer a cocktail," said Pitt, "I suggest that we stay with wine."

Streets of Rage version ...
They came from the South, with the morning sun, shimmering like ghosts
on a desert mirage, gliding across the sun-sparkled water. The rectangular cotton
sails on the flotilla of rafts sagged lifelessly under a placid azure sky. No
commands were spoken as the crews dipped and pulled their paddles in eerie
silence. Overhead, a hawk swooped and soared as if guiding the steersman
towards a barren island that rose from the centre of the inland sea.Cussler's Sahara ...
She seemed to float above the ghostly evening mist like a menacing beast rising from the primeval ooze. Her low silhouette stood black and ominous against the backdrop of the trees along the shoreline. Shadowy, phantom-like images of men moved across her decks under the eerie yellow glow of lanterns as moisture trickled down her gray, sloping sides and dripped into the sluggish current of the James River.I've only skipped through this Streets of Rage book so there may well be other similarities to be found. Post them here if you find any! th:

Someone should really look into this. I bet the author just copy and pasted a bunch of scenes from various Cussler books and changed the character names and updated the language slightly to fit the setting. Sheesh! Instead of Streets of Rage it should be called "Vigan Cyclara in Raise the Pabergerranean Probe of Gold"

HAHA!!! Thats a good name.

I would love to hear how the plagerist explains this one. It's word for word!!! This person didn't even rearrange the words to try to hide it!!

I think that's much more blatant than the college girl's chick-lit book. Unbelievable. At least the internet makes it easier to catch plagiarists now.
MrKABC - May 18, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
Wow... think anyone (CC's publisher) will do anything about it?
And "Blaze" is a stupid name (kind of like "Mason Jar") anyway.

Does anybody know what came of this????
Someone mentioned that with the internet it's easier to catch plagarism but as a teacher sometimes it gets harder. With all that is out there we have a harder time finding out what is plagerized.
Sorry for misspelling plagerized. I am not that smart.

As much fun as it would be to channel CC, no one should be ripping his work off! Absolutely ridiculous.
Cheers beer:

Coach2709,
As a teacher myself, I have found the easiest way to check for plagarism is to take a few sentences from their papers and go to google. Type in the sentence word for word in quotations and you will probably see a site come up that they copied it from. I have caught a pretty good number of students this way.
coach2709 - September 27, 2006 03:47 AM (GMT)
that is a great idea about checking for plagerism. I will start doing that. The crazy thing is how kids don't think that copying thoughts and ideas is not plagerism. What state do you teach in?
I teach in Kentucky and I think our educational system is horrendous.
