After landing the plane on the nearest flat stretch, Dirk Pitt ran to the site of the plane he had just shot down. Finding the American Air Force passenger plane still intact but starting to catch on fire, he drags out the pilot, co-pilot and one passenger. He went back into the plane and could not find anyone else. Dirk runs back to the three men and finds that they only have minor injuries. He rolls the passenger over to get the man's billfold. James Sandecker, the military ID says. A General, at that, Dirk notes. The short, red haired and wiry man comes to and finds himself looking into the friendliest green eyes of a young man who could not be younger than 18, Sandecker thinks to himself.

14 May 1945. In what would be her last battle of World War 2, the U.S.S. Enterprise, supporting the Okinawa Operation by flying patrols around the clock, was struck by a Kamikaze pilot of the Imperial Japanese Air Force and striking the Enterprise's forward Elevator, killing 14 men and wounding 34. Naval ensign J.G. Ensenada was one of the first men on the scene and pulled a mortally wounded man from the scene and tended to the bearded, red haired man. J.G. looked at the man's name tag and saw that it said, J. Sandecker. A male nurse came by and looked over Sandecker saying, "This man will be dead in less than thirty minutes". The U.S.S. Enterprise had been attacked before, many times, since the beginning of the war and would be awarded 20 battle stars for having survived the entire War and would be revered for her glorious service in the war and beyond because no other ship had been awarded that many, in all of the United States Naval History, rivalled only perhaps by the Nineteenth Century frigate, USS Constitution.

Rupert Sandecker and Frederick Adelin sat across the table from the representatives of the Boxer movement that had just made their case for Foreigners to leave the people of this village alone so that they may practice their religious beliefs without foreign intervention by the Catholic church. One of the representatives looked at Frederick with recognition from a meeting in the dark of night several days before, when Frederick, a member of the Brethren had encouraged the Chinese revolt against the Foreigners, telling them to form secret societies and that they would have silent approval by the Queen herself. In so doing, Frederick Adelin had helped the beginning of the Boxer Rebellion that would take many lives in the next three years. After the meeting, Rupert Sandecker was somewhat satisfied by the results and said to Frederick, "I don't like it at all, something is up and I can tell. I will go back to the Consul and report on the meeting". Frederick, thinking to himself that Sandecker may be a threat in the near future and obviously Rupert may have to be taken care of. Rupert stops in his tracks and spies a friend, Matthew Caine. The two men hug and begin to banter together. Frederick says, "I will be on my way then, Rupert, to my consulate office" and walks down the dusty lane.

11 December 2202. Alexander Vestrel is called to the Time council, where Heath London sits at the head of the table. "Mr. Vestrel, we have a conundrum. If you may recall, J.G. Ensenada was able to pass himself off as Admiral Sandecker successfully after returning from the war and convincing Mrs. Sandecker to go along with it, but if we were to alter that history would Admiral Sandecker still follow the same path that Ensenada took?". "I seriously doubt it, Heath. But, gentlemen, let's look at it and consider his role in the development of the technology that he, Admiral Hyman Rickover, Hiram Yaeger, Sr., St. Julien Perlmutter, and Harriman Nelson had produced for or country. Then that maniac, Delphi Moran had Harriman sent back to ancient times with the first time travel device by sacrificing his chance to have the Pandora's Box. What Delphi Moran had done though, had consequences, because Harriman Nelson would help the Atlanteans in their technological development. What do you intend to do about all the possible consequences, if you should attempt to try this. It's only speculation on our part that Delphi was a member of the Brethren, let alone the Master of it at that time. No, if you try to do this, may I suggest a possible alternative, and that is Rupert Sandecker, James Sandecker's grandfather. I have an idea that if we let him know certain facts that he might just pull it off".

12 July 1901. Frederick Adelin saw Rupert Sandecker watching the marching column of soldiers heading towards Tianjin alongside the riverbank and before anyone could notice, Frederick shot at Rupert Sandecker. Frederick stepped back on to his horse and followed the army of the Eight Nation Alliance as they marched towards their ultimate goal, Beijing. Rupert felt the bullet strike him and as he fell back, he tumbled down the riverbank and before falling in to the water, disappeared. Alexander grabbed the man before Rupert could fall through the other side of the fourth dimensional wormhole. There is no easy way of what Alexander needs to do, but he must convince the man that his future has already been determined by the attempted assasination and disappearance of his past life. Alexander now needs to convince this man to replace the man who took his grandson's identity.

14 December 2202. "It took some persuasion to convince Rupert Sandecker to take his grandson's identity, and then to alter events aboard the USS Enterprise to keep J. G. Ensenada from taking on James Sandecker's life" reports Alexander Vestrel, to Heath London and the rest of the Time Council. Alexander was getting tired of traveling back and forth in time, trying to correct things for the better. When Varian had the job, Alexander was happy to do office work. Now that Alexander has Varian's job, he was losing his motivation to keep things in symmetry. Alex knows that he has an obligation until the Time Council can find someone to take the job permanently.

2029. President Nathan LaMontaigne sat at his desk pondering over the report about the Brethren that had been written by Hiram Yaeger the third. Nathan had asked Hiram to be his Science Advisor, leaving NUMA temporarily. Hiram had been thorough as possible with few primary documents from the Brethren. Learning that the Brethren had been organized by the Magi, a group of Atlanteans that had magical powers. The Brethren had inherited the Millennial objects of the Magi, including Pandora's Box. An object that had been pursued by the Moran family for nearly 700 years until Delphi Moran had it temporarily. Dirk Pitt had managed to kill Delphi, losing the Pandora's Box in a hot oil pit, in the process. What was not in the report was that as an Atlantean descendant, Hiram Yaeger the third represented the scientific and engineering talents of the mortal Atlanteans who had helped in the founding of the United States and had over time managed to take some of the Millenial objects from the Brethren and locking them away from mortals who sought the power of the Millennial objects. Delphi Moran had been a scientist and engineer who helped develop many technologies but had secretly sought the Pandoras Box because he was unsatisfied with his own talents.

May 22, 2029. A retirement party for Carmen Sandefur, the Director of NUMA was already in full swing when Dirk Pitt Jr. and his sister, Summer showed up thirty minutes late. And despite his age, Al Giordino was there too. The gray haired Italian sat in his chair remembering the old days and was happy to see Dirk and Summer show up. Summer and Dirk walked over to see Al and talked with him. Al inquired about their children and how they were doing. Dirk finished up quickly about his kids and then went on to see other partygoers. Summer stayed by Al for awhile telling about all the kids. Carrington Pitt stepped to the podium and gave a short speech about Carmen Sandefur's term as Director of NUMA for the past 10 years and her career at NUMA since 1989, everyone gave a loud applause for Carmen. Carmen stepped to the podium and gave a short speech herself, wrapping up with the announcement that President LaMontaigne has asked Carrington Pitt to succeed as the new Director of NUMA. Carrington Pitt stepped back to the podium and "Yes, I have been asked and am honored to be given this appointment and after some soul searching, I have accepted the nomination just now" She smiles.

2036. The moonlit water moved with the wind and as he watched her walking toward him, he noticed how the moonlight made her long, white dress diaphynous, showing her figure and his heart lept into his throat. They embraced and then after a few words of sweetness they walked over towards the lounge chairs and sat down. Holding hands, they talked of a future together. A large ship with it's faint glow of lights passed in the distance just shy of the horizon. After a while they walked back to the hotel and went up to their room. Later, he awoke, startled. He looked over and found that she was not with him in bed. Dirk Pitt the Third wondered where his love was.

2030. The Svelte, 19 year old White House Fellow walked down the hall in the West Wing, turning all the male heads. Eve Sharpe was definitely a beautiful young woman just out of high school. She walked into the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Kevin Durance. Handing some papers to him for his signature, Eve thought there was a passing resemblance of Kevin to her father, Greg Sharpe.

2030. I8 year old Dirk Pitt the third was just out of High School and had joined NUMA while he also attended College at Stanford. While working directly for his Aunt Carrington as her administrative assistant, he had come along with her to the White House where she was to meet the President. He was introduced to President Nathan LaMontaigne. The Chief of Staff walked in with his Deputy Chief's administrative assistant, Eve Sharpe. Introductions were made and a current passed between Dirk and Eve when they shook hands. Everyone sat down and Andrea Munoz, the Chief of Staff began with her announcing the rising tensions between China and the United States. "It is becoming obvious that we are going to need every bit of knowledge of the seas between our nations, so that we have the upper hand in any potential conflict with them. It is our aim to prevent any kind of armed conflict on land because they have superior advantages over us, while we still maintain advantages in Naval, Nuclear and Space Warfare. We have intelligence that is of a confidential nature that they are being manipulated by a very evil cabal that is known as the Black Ops Brethren".

January 11, 2202. Alexander Vestrel walks into the anteroom of the Time Council's chamber and sits down to wait until he is called for. Fifteen minutes later, the door opens and an aide beckons him in. Alexander strides in and notes a man sitting, facing the Time Council. He heads for the empty chair beside that man. "Welcome, Alexander to this meeting. We, the Time Council have found your succesor in the role of Fellow Traveler for the Time Council. Alexander, please meet Frederick Vanover" states Heath London, the Chairman of the Time Council. Alexander and Frederick shake hands and say a few words of introduction. "Gentlemen, both of you must be able to get along as Alexander will help you, Frederick, despite being well trained in your role as the new Fellow Traveler. Frederick, you are the third man to hold this position of honor and like our first Fellow Traveler, Varian, we expect only the best from you to fulfill your duties with Wisdom, Honesty and Courage".

Two days after their first meeting in the White House, Dirk and Eve went out on their first date. That night after the meeting in the White House, they spent 10 hours on the phone getting to know each other. And the more the two got to know each other, their feelings grew. They walked into Mejia Pizzeria and sat down at a table and ordered Spaghetti and Salad. After eating they lingered, talking. Zara Arujo Mejia watched from the kitchen, remembering how Antonio courted her and she walked into the dining area and put on some romantic Italian music on the Jukebox for the Young'uns, despite her misgivings about the Italian music because of her Portugese heritage. Dirk and Eve stood up and began dancing. Ah, young love, thought Zara. Now that she and Antonio were happy and with two wonderful kids in a house out in Fairfax, VA it was nice to see young love blossoming. Zara was happy for the two lovebirds.

The man with pince-nez spectacles and a bow tie strode into the reception room outside Carrington Pitt's office in the NUMA building with authority. Felicity Harrington, the secretary looked up and cowered at first before recovering and asked the man what his business with Carrington Pitt was and if he had an appointment. "Yes, I have an appointment and will not wait out here another second" and walks into Carrington's office. Carrington Pitt, a tall blonde woman who carried herself with confidence was startled and taken aback at the man's ferocity and arrogance. "May I help you sir?" she inquires. Seating himself in the chair without a handshake or introducing himself, he opens his briefcase and takes out a stack of paper and plops it on Carrington's desk. "Mrs. Pitt, I am Clark Edwards with the IRS and would like to go over some details with you on a project that NUMA was involved with over 20 years ago where there appears to be some inscrepancies in the tax forms of said project. This project was a joint project with the British in the English Channel back in 2006 and an investigation of the collision of two ships that had occured March 7, 1889 involving the Canadian Wooden Barque, The Vandalia and an English Iron Ship that was owned by the Ducal Line by the name of the Duke of Buccleugh. The conclusion of said investigation confirmed the original court decision back in the nineteenth century but with some new revelations that both ships were negligent and blinded by the conditions of the sea as to the lights onboard both ships. What I am here to do is bring some mistakes in the following tax forms that are atop the stack of papers I just gave you. If you would take a look at those forms please and confirm for me that your team did indeed perform a sloppy job of reporting the expenses involved".

The IRS indeed would not have brought up the matter if it had not been for the Black Ops Brethren in retaliation for NUMA's involvement in the Mothman fiasco back in 2026-2027 and had taken their time in finding something to bring against the people of NUMA. Without realizing the consequences of their actions the Brethren was to face their ultimate battle for control of the planet. Indeed, it was the Chinese consul in San Francisco that had learned of the manipulation of the IRS and found it intriguing that the IRS could be so manipulated. Through coded messages electronically beamed back to China, the National Security Agency had just cracked the newest Chinese code and learned of their message. At the same time, another message that had been sent electronically from the most secretive Chinese intelligence agency, the Guojia Anquan Bu, had sent a message to Mexico City of their plans to help Mexico by providing money, munitions, materiel and logistics in the upcoming confrontation with the United States.

President Nathan LaMontaigne, after being briefed by his National Security Advisor, Adrienne Cardonelli of the coded messages that had been broken by the NSA ordered his legislative affairs aide to ask Congress for a secret National Emergency Fund. Adrienne, after returning to her office learned from her Deputy NSA that Russia had just made a pact with China. Stunned, she sat at her desk for a full 10 minutes before calling the President. With a major war already in Africa things were looking grim, Adrienne thought. Before it was all over, she realized that there was going to be a World War.

In an alliance of major African powers, Egypt, South Africa, Angola and Nigeria were aligned against weaker states that had sided with the ancient Atlantean descendants while the Brethren had brought together the major powers. A bloody war that crossed ethnic and religious lines was growing in intensity. The European nations along with the United States were dumbfounded and despite efforts to bring about some peace talks, were at a loss as to what to do and were afraid of getting too involved by siding with either camp. It had not been difficult for the Brotherhood to infiltrate the governments of the major African powers with people who would follow the agenda set forth by the Brethren and had manipulated the whole affair with finesse.

The European nations began to bicker over the trouble spots around the world and were afraid of getting involved. Germany started to push her weight around because the Brethren were targeting many vulnerable bureaucrats and politicians and agitating them. Chancellor Manfred Albrecht Koonan was a member of the Brethren and was doing everything he could to stir things up among the other European leaders. With Russia announcing her alliance with China against the United States, Manfred Koonan decided to throw in with Russia and China. President Nathan LaMontaigne spent nearly fours on the phone with the German Chancellor trying to dissuade him. After getting off the phone with the Chancellor, he called Adrienne and told her to come to the Oval Office. "Adrienne, we are facing a major crisis that is going to blow up with the slightest misstep by either us or the belligerent nations aligned against us. With both the Brethren and Atlantean descendants in our own government we are teetering precariously ourselves and as an Atlantean descendant myself, I am afraid that the world is going to be plunged into the most devastating war to ever occur".

May 13, 2030. 5: 37AM PDT The Chinese ship Po Zhou Li, a container craft with over 1,000 containers each made of highly exploive material blew up a large part of the Port of San Diego in one massive fireball. 5:42AM PDT In the Port of Los Angeles, the Chinese ship, Mao Hon Ki, a container craft with over 700 containers exploded in one fiery fireball, taking out a large portion of the Port. 5:49AM PDT The Chinese ship, Chao-Li, with nearly a thousand containers exploded with a flash of light, taking out most of the port area. 5: 58AM PDT In the port of Seattle, the Chinese ship, Chu Kwan Ho, with over 600 containers, exploded with enough force that the concussive wave took out the rest of the port that did not go up in the initial explosion. 8:06AM EDT The National Security Advisor, Adrienne Cardonelli stepped into the Oval Office and coughed. The four Congressmen talking with President Nathan LaMontaigne looked up and recognized Adrienne, vacating their chairs and walked out. "Mr. President, Several Chinese Container ships exploded in the ports of San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle with enough destruction that many lives were lost and wiping out most of the ports themselves. It appears a coordinated effort and an overt act of War". President LaMontaigne replied, "Assemble the Congress so that I can ask for a Declaration of War, Adrienne, please".

May 14, 2030. 12: 33AM EDT Several ICBM's appeared over the Pacific Ocean headed towards the United States. 12:37AM EDT President LaMontaigne was awoken by the Secret Service agent carrying the Nuclear football. After the Agent placed the briefcase in an hallway table and opened it with the President, briefing him on the ICBM's. President LaMontaigne decided to push the buttons activating the DOD Killer Satellites that would shoot down the Missiles with Laser fire. 12:41AM The ICBM's were destroyed by laser fire. Several hours later, at 6:44AM Several Chinese Nuclear Subs were racing towards the United States. Again the President was awoken by the same Secret Service agent and this time the President activated both undersea sonic explosions at strategic spots in the Pacific Ocean as well as sending a coded communique to the Ohio class submarine, the Jefferson City and ordered the submarine to destroy any Chinese submarines that may have survived the sonic explosions.

Monday May 15, 2030. German Chancellor Manfred Koonan and the Russian President, Anton Dubrovski announced their declarations of War against the United States, allying themselves with China. Within four hours, India declared war against Germany, Russia and China. Within an hour after that announcement, Australia, France, Canada and the United Kingdom declared war against Germany, Russia, and China. Two hours after these announcements, Egypt, Nigeria, Angola, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan announced their declarations of war against the United States and her allies. Within thirty minutes of that announcement, Israel allied herself with the United States.

Tuesday May 16, 2030. Having sent all they could spare to Mexico, China sat back and watched as a large Mexican Army met the Uinted States Army in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Despite their valiant efforts, the Mexican Army took heavy losses and after nearly Eight hours of intensive fighting, the Mexican Army soldiers became demoralized and turned heel and ran back. In Africa, the Massed Armies of Egypt, Angola and Nigeria met the South African and other African armies in the countries of Angola, Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, the Congo nations, Tanzania, the Central African Republic, Kenya, Uganda and the southern part of Sudan in one large battleground where they fought with ferocity on a daily basis. After the Mexican army had fled, The United States Army swept into Mexico and occupied the country.

Wednesday, May 17, 2030. The Air Forces of the United States, Canada,, Great Britain, France screamed into Germany and met the German Air Force and many planes were shot down with German, French and British planes lost in the battle. Nine American planes were shot down. Early the next morning, American, British, French and Canadian Air Force planes met German and Russian fighters over the Eastern European countries in another Air Battle. The Russians lost over two dozen aircraft, German losses were over 30 aircraft shot down, while American losses were 14 aircraft, 4 Canadian, 16 French, 8 British that day. Friday, the Air Battle took place inside Russia where Russian losses were 54, German losses at 77, French losses at 36, British losses at 28, American losses at 19.

Saturday, May 20, 2030. Chinese ICBM's were again launched and headed for Pearl Harbor. The Ohio class submarine, the Jefferson City fired her Polaris missiles and took out over 20 of the Chinese missiles while only four had failed in their attempts. Again, the Killer Satellites took out the rest, now that they were programmed to automatically detect and destroy any incoming missles. Chinese and Russian Air Force attacked India, Japan and Vietnam. India retaliated with a Nuclear Missile that detonated over the Chinese city of Lanzhou, killing nearly One Million lives immediately. China retaliated nearly two hours later with a Nuclear explsion over Varanasi, India. Pakistan copied China by exploding a Nuclear explosion over Chennal (Madras), India. India retaliated by exploding a Nuclear explsion over Chitral.

The Iranian leaders were rattled when they learned that Chrital, Pakistan, which was near their border with Pakistan, went up in a mushroom cloud and they decided that India needed to be taught a lesson. They fired a nuclear missile towards India, where the city of Lucknow in the Uttar Pradesh state exploded in a fiery mushroom cloud. The Israeli Mossad learned immediately of the Iranian attack on India and the Israeli Prime Minister, Chaim Potok was advised to retaliate for the attack on the United States' Ally. Chaim Potok ordered a nuclear missile to attack the Iranian city of Hamedan. It was destroyed, with many lives lost. Millions of lives were being killed in what is now considered World War 3. The African continent was ablaze in a consuming war that was being fought day and night with many people losing their lives as the civilians were part of the casualties. The President of the United States, Nathan LaMontaigne was in anguish as the numbers of dead people were nearing One Billion, and realizing that this war may last for several years. Adrienne Cardonelli, his NSA Adviser walked into his private office through the short hallway from the Oval Office. Following her was Carrington Pitt. The two women sat down in the chairs and waited for the President to collect himself. "Thank You for Coming to see me, Mrs. Pitt, because I want to thank you and NUMA in your efforts to aide in our fight against these belligerent nations. The Sonic devices you planted on the Ocean Floor in the Pacific are of great help in our fight against China". "Your Welcome Mr. President. May I ask in return that you ask the NRO for the plans of their submersible aircraft that they had built some years back, I believe that we can build a small fleet of these vehicles for the War effort? Also, I have a small list of projects that our Marine engineers are working on that may be used in the War". President LaMontaigne looks at Carrington Pitt for a moment before he says, "Submersible Aircraft?". "Yes, Mr. President, a Scientist for the NRO developed the craft some years ago and then turned belligerent against our government after he thought he had been wronged and used one of the two prototypes to attack and destroy several commercial ships before he attacked New York City". "Oh, yeah, now I remember. What was his name?". "Malachi Zeulithan".

The National Reconnaisance Office was forced to turn over their other prototype submersible aircraft to NUMA and the NUMA engineers went to work replicating the craft and adding their own tricks to improve on the original. The fleet of Submersible aircraft were ready by the first week of June. Just in time as the Chinese Navy had now geared up for a naval battle with the United States. At the same time, the Chinese military planners were working out their plans for battle on the Space Colonies on the Moon, Mars and the other planets.

2202. It was the first week of March when Alexander Vestrel was satisfied that Frederick Vanover was ready to take over the position of Fellow Traveler. Alexander was now happy and after a celebration at a Lounge where they shared some drinks, Alexander went to his apartment. Feeling like he could use another drink, he walked into the kitchen and grabbed a beer from the refrigerator. Walking back to the Living Room, a Man was sitting on his couch. "Who are you? And why are you in my apartment?'. "My name is Metron, I am a fellow traveler from the year 3964 and would like to discuss a certain subject with you that is of a very delicate nature. Will you listen to me, please?". "Very well, do you wish a drink?". "No, Thank You". Alexander sits down in his easy chair.

Sunday May 31, 2030. After learning of Israel's attack on Iran, the Egyptian President ordered a nuclear attack on Israel. A tactical nuclear missile was launched and it destroyed the Israeli city of Bat-Yam. Chaim Potok ordered a tactical nuclear missile to retaliate against Egypt and took out Port Said, the Mediterranean entrance to the Suez Canal. The Egyptian President ordered some of the Army to return from the fighting in Africa and then upon teir return, sent them across the Sinai peninsula to attack Israel. The Israely army met them with a fierce battle that was more than what they had faced in Africa. The Israeli Army fought with a crazy kind of strength. Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Iran sent some troops to fight against Israel but were decimated by many non-nuclear missiles, tanks and the Israeli Air Force.

Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran were amassing soldiers to form a second strike against Israel when the Turkish Army and Air Force swept down upon them and were soon joined by the Israeli Air Force, tanks and non-nuclear missiles killing nearly every soldier and those that were not killed, fled. The Israeli Air Force and Turkish Air Forces returned to their bases and refueled for an Air attack on Syria, Saudia Arabia, Iraq, and Iran, causing a lot of damage. Then Israel attacked with over three thousand non-nuclear missiles upon those countries. Turkey followed suit with an equal amount of non-nuclear missiles.

Pakistan then sent it's Air Force to Israel and despite a corp of weary Israeli Air Force pilots defending against possible incursion of the Pakistani Air Force from entering Israel, blasted many of the Pakistani Air Force out of the sky before they were joined by the Turkish Air Force. By this time, the combined Navies and Air Forces of the European nations entered the airspace and relieved the Israeli and Turkish Air Forces of their battle weary pilots. The combined European Air Forces were using their naval ships to ferry both the aircrafts and pilots into the Mediterranean shores of Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and Israel to help their Israeli and Turkish allies. The combined European Navies with the arrival of the U.S. Navy's Mediterranean fleet were now blasting many of the Middle Eastern countries with their Naval guns and non-nuclear missiles, along with the corp of fresh Pilots provided by the U.S. and Europe.

With an African theatre of war, a Middle-Eastern Theatre of War and an Air Battle over Eastern Europe and Russia, President Nathan LaMontaigne knew that a Pacific Theatre campaign was almost ready to start and Intelligence coming in about the Chinese efforts to start up a battle on the Space Colonies, it was a growing headache just trying to stay ahead of the curve. With NUMA ready with their fleet of submersible Aircraft, hopefully the Pacific theatre will not be as bad as the others. General Zumrick Waldmiller of the Space Command was expected in Fifteen minutes with some ideas about the preparations for the upcoming battles on the Pennsylvania Colony on Mars, and the others. Earlier, Carrington Pitt, the Director of NUMA had briefed President Nathan LaMontaigne on the assesments of underwater battles. An unhitherto idea that had not been done before, except in the case of experiments by the United States Navy from the 1940s to the mid-1970s with Dolphins and several inventions. What was the world coming to? Thought Nathan LaMontaigne. Already, the Russians had tried to sabotage the Bering Sea Highway Bridge and flew some Air Force jets over Alaska but they had been shot down by the United States Air Force pilots from Elmendorf Air Force Base and several Mountainous Defense positions with laser fire.

The first Chinese Naval ship in the flotilla heading towards Hawaii, the Xho Won Fat was three hundred and fifty miles northwest of Hawaii, racing at it's top speed, 17 knots when it appeared to hit a wall and the bow of the ship stove in and with her continuing momentum caused her to slant forward and downwards as she sank quickly. Two battle ships on each side of her less than a quarter mile behind did not have the time to react to the sinking of it's lead ship and they too smashed into an invisible wall and sank quickly. Half a mile down in the depths of the Pacific Ocean, Dirk Pitt Jr. was amazed at the results of the force field upon the Chinese Naval ships as they plowed into an unseen wall. The five Chinese frigates behind the first three Chinese naval craft saw what happened and slowed their speed immediately but still could not stop in time and therefore did not have as much damage to them. They immediately radioed to the rest of the flotilla to spread out. But the rest of the flotilla still did not think that they would be smashed by their long distance from the ships in the lead that had either sank or were damaged. The force field was fourteen miles wide and they too smashed into the unseen wall and most sank, with only a small handful of ships who had went slow and steady, coming to a stop before they too would have been destroyed. They turned around and headed back to China. Down in the Eos Pacifica Colony, Summer high fived her brother and whooped out loud at what they had accomplished with NUMA technology. Having transferred most of the power for the colony into their new technology that they had worked on for a long time and never thought would be used for warfare, Summer and Dirk Pitt Jr. were pleased as the UAV showed what had happened on the surface of the Pacific Ocean, to the Monitors that they were watching.

Just east of the Phillipines, a second wave of Chinese Naval ships are waiting to receive the returning ships from the first wave. Finally, they begin a race towards Hawaii on a different path. Streaking southeast as they aimed themselves to take out Oahu completely. 30 miles out from Pearl Harbor, they felt confident enough to head straight into Pearl Harbor. Five miles out they begin taking fire from unknown aircraft that does not appear on their radars. Dumbfounded, they try to return fire but the Flying Subs that NUMA had recreated from the NRO's prototype were too nimble in their maneuvers as the Chinese ships take hits from the Sonic Pulses that literally shreds metal. Sonic Cannons rained down on them as well, causing metal to disintegrate into millions of flying shards that injure or kill the men. The Flying Subs were disguised by light bending surfaces that made them almost invisible to the naked eye unless you had glasses that magnified vision. Then the Flying Subs begin another round of attacks by using laser pulses that just melted the metal. The ships were taking heavy damages but were still floating. After nearly ten minutes of using their laser pulses, the Flying Subs were coming around for one last attack by simultaneoulsy firing their Sonic PUlses in one full blast that just literally caused all the ships to disintegrate. Back at the Eos Pacifica Colony beneath the waves of the Pacific Ocean 300 miles to the Northwest of Hawaii, Dirk and Summer just grinned at each other, watching the results on the monitor from the live feed of the UAV, as it flew over the waters where the Chinese ships once sat floating atop.

The Eastern European/Russian Front continued to see aerial dogfights on a daily basis. The Middle Eastern Front was retaliating one city at a time on a weekly basis with Nuclear explosions and a massing of soldiers every three or four months between the Turks fighting for the Allies and the Syrians, Iranians, Pakistanis and Iraqis fighting on the side of the Brethren. The African front was bogging down with less big fights but just as intense and deadly small skirmishes in the middle of the African continent. Time passed and President LaMontaigne was preparing for the Space battles slowly and steadily. The Chinese were stunned at their Naval losses and were trying to come up with a way to attack the Americas. One Nuclear ICBM missile in January of 2031, despite being hit by laser fire from a killer satellite, had only been damaged slightly and the missile struck it's target accidentally because of it's damage, El Paso, Texas was destroyed. Despite an Occupying Army, the Mexicans were satisfied at the assimilation of their country into the United States.

Time passed on as the war continued without any resolution in sight, there was a weariness in most countries that were fighting and the presidential election in the United States was less than a month away when the first Space battle occurred on the Pennsylvania Colony on Mars. Less than a dozen were dead. Up until now there had been an occasional murder of those involved with the Chinese efforts at organizing supporters for their cause. Intelligence agents for the United States had been well informed up until the shootout occurred. Now, they believed that there was little interest in helping the Chinese. The Presidential election was non-existent because the Republican candidate for President, Llandra DeFelice was not trying very hard to defeat President Nathan LaMontaigne because he was a sitting President overseeing a war and was considered a successful war leader.

November 7, 2036. President Nathan LaMontaigne is re-elected. The Republican candidate, Llandra DeFelice received only 10 Million votes to President LaMontaigne's Seventy-Four Million votes. The United States now encompassed all of Mexico and Canada as well. The war was dragging on and even the American people were restlessly impatient to see an ending. President LaMontaigne tried again and again to communicate with the Chinese leaders but kept getting rebuffed. With the help of NUMA, it appeared the United States was developing some advanced technology as a result of the war.
