Welcome discoboy,
The 78 UK Iceberg is a great book to have in your collection. I have one here and its an ex-lib. If yours is not an ex-lib, its worth a lot of moola! If you could explain its condition, I'll give you a rough estimate on what its worth.

Welcome Discoboy. My S- Iceberg is like Tony's, ex-library, and it is a great book to have. Let him know the condition adn he can tell you about it, he's helped me out numerous times and brought my collection from all paperbacks to well, you can imagine. Again, welcome and feel free to post often with any and all questions and we'll do the best we can to help ya! w:

Cheers DirkPitt and Empress, i feel welcome already!
I actually have two copies! Both are ex library i believe. They have the first page in missing (where the library stamps and markings were i guess). Other than that, they are in very good condition, the dust jacket on one is immaculate! just a little yellowing around the edges of the pages. :)

I recall an ex-lib UK 78 Iceberg matching your description on ebay a few years back and it sold for around $350.00. Ex-lib books with their end papers removed unfortunately do not indicate whether the books were legitimately released from the libraries. Those pages usually show a discard stamp. That dust jacket sounds a treat though!

I've done that before! The trick is to keep a disinterested look on your face even though your adrenalin is pumping out of your eyeballs!! :o The "thrill of the hunt" is the best part of book collecting, I really should get out again to the weekend garage sales and scrounge around myself! p:

:o Now that is a bargain, I can't believe you actually got the price reduced, that is great. Good Work th:
Why can't I ever find Cussler books at car boot sales...damn this town.
discoboy - May 17, 2006 10:37 AM (GMT)
I only saw the book because i was walking past the stall with a cup o tea, and spotted someone with it in their hand, looking at it. yike:
So i hovered, an when they put it down (luckily) i swiftly moved in for the kill (trying not to look excited of course)
heh heh heh

I'm the worlds worst at trying not to show excitement. I swear when I find a great book at a low price the cashier can probably see it all over my face that I just got lucky.

Dirkpitt is right, it really gets the adrenaline pumping!
I think now i have two, i'll list one up on Ebay later on an see how it goes, i'll let y'all know how it goes! :)

Car boot?
I stop by the occasional garage sale or yard sale but have never found any Cusslers. I asked one person last year if she had any books by Clive Cussler and she said "None that I'm selling" with a devilish look on her face. I just smiled and got back in my car.
Good luck to all ye rummagers out there! w:

I haven't done that in ages either! I'm like Julie though no poker face AT ALL!!!

I'm well good at it! Just don't let them see your white knuckles where you're gripping it so hard. And, make sure you look through some other rubbish while you're plucking up the courage to ask how much :D
I listed it on Ebay (Number - 7033052792) if you wanna have a look!

Car boot?  |
Well in US terms I suppose it would be called a 'Car Trunk Sale'
rowan - June 14, 2006 09:46 PM (GMT)
I have never heard of a car boot sale or car trunk sale-I know that a boot in England is a trunk in US. Does someone put a bunch of stuff in the car trunk and go to a parking lot, open the trunk and put up a sale sign? In Texas I suppose it would be a tailgate sale-lots of pickups.
Kellym - June 14, 2006 10:05 PM (GMT)
On certain days, usually a Sunday, an organisation will lease a parking lot, spare land etc... and people put the stuff they want to sell in the car and bring it to the area - they are usually charged, but not alot. Then outside the car they set up tables and put the stuff on...basically. And that my friend, is a car boot sale......At least in this town.
Empress - June 15, 2006 03:27 AM (GMT)
Wow!!! In Texas we just go to Half-price books or Goodwill. Usually if something is being sold out of a car here you can bet dollars to donuts it's illegal.
oswalder - June 19, 2006 04:04 AM (GMT)
Sounds kind of like a flea market to me if it's organized in a localized area. If it's just one person selling something out of his or her trunk/boot then I'm with Julie, they're probably setting up for a quick get-away.
P.S. What a strange thing language is. Boot, trunk, flea market? Who comes up with this stuff? p:
