Have you ever seen an Aircraft Carrier sink? This is a touching story!

Thanks for that it would never have made the news in England!

It's sad to see, but at least it will do the enviroment some good providing the undersea world with a reef. It was on the news last night and in the newspaper this morning. b:

I agree at least it's doing good and not harm to the ocean.

...the Oriskany, now 212 feet underwater, will become a prime destination for sport divers and fishermen

Should people really be fishing where other people are diving?

212 feet seems pretty deep for sport diving, is that where her keel is now? Aircraft carriers are pretty tall, so I imagine her flight deck and even the bridge and communications tower would be much shallower, so that's good. I'd love to dive on her in five years or so when she gets covered with marine life. snor:

My thoughts exactly when I read it. 212 didn't seem deep for an air craft carrier.

Remember Erik, people actually dive the Lusitania and she is at 310+ ft and the Doria is at 200+. I guess that's why it's an extreme sport. Sad thing is a diver will die on this wreck, it will just take time.

I'm really curious to see what effects the Canes have on her.

Such a beautiful ship, she carries with her the pride of all Seamen. May she rest in peace with glory and colors for all eternity. I salute this ship with love. p:

Her story was on Discovery yesterday. It was so sad to see the condition it was in. All those years in storage took it's toll on her. They had the whole story of how she was prepared for sinking along with of course the ship going down. There were underwater shots after she was on the bottom. They said that the tallest part of her was only 55 feet down so diving on it shouldn't be much of a problem. It's 25 miles off the coast of Florida. I hope they do a follow up story in a few years. t:
