1914. The Hill Valley Dam was touted as an Economic Boon and would bring a new age of technical wonders. The steel train tracks over the narrow valley just outside of the small city were to be the framework for the new dam. Construction of the new dam brought many men and their families to Hill Valley and the town grew by just over 1,000 men and their families. When the dam was completed in 1919 it was indeed a sight to be seen. The new lake brought many recreational and business opportunities. Hill Valley boomed indeed as the 1920s started. In 1976, a strange man came to town wanting to buy up a lot of the old buildings where many a company had been located but had moved out of town because a highway was built over twenty miles away in the 1960s. In the spring of 1977 many storms occurred and soon the dam was barely holding the waters back. On May 24, 1977 the dam gave way and the waters flowed through the valley and came out onto the flatland where most of the town was located. Many died in the flood while others who had the foresight had moved out quickly in anticipation. Later in June as the water had subsided and efforts to rebuild the town were foundering until the strange man came back and promised to help in the reconstruction if he was allowed to buy up the area where the lake had been. July 1, 1977 the mayor of the town, Raymond Flory signed a contract to sell the valley in return for the wealthy Tony Starke to help the town in it's rebuilding. July 4, 1977. Four young boys from town were running and playing around in the valley where the lake had been when they came upon the remains of a ghost town. Tony Starke came walking out of a cave near the ghost town, walking over train tracks that ran into the cave. When the boys saw Tony Starke they hightailed it back to town.

The town was rebuilt, but strange things began to happen. A strange facility went up that was heavily guarded and the town folk were careful to stay away or risk being shot. Nobody knew what to make of this, and Stark refused to answer any questions on the subject. The facility grew in size at a phenomenal rate.
tonym5 - May 29, 2006 04:13 PM (GMT)
1977. Inside the large facility was the world's largest laboratory for scientific investigation. Tony Starke was hiring scientists and engineers to work on the many projects that will be started. Everything from Oceanography to Space Exploration to Invisibility Cloaks were being organized. The first project started was moving things through solid objects. This was started by Tony Starke himself because of his discovery of a train inside the old mining cave that was located near the ghost town. After the waters had receded the small river that had flowed through the narrow valley was now following it's old path. The townsfolk enjoyed having the small river and only the older folks remembered the old days when the lake behind the dam had brought many a recreational and business opportunities. After the first two months of operation the guards disappeared and an elaborate security system was installed.
gamaytrout103 - May 29, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
Starke brought the old train to the facility and had it restored. It became the symbol of the new company. "From old to new" became the slogan. Many areas made a lot of progress, but to Starke's frustration the area he really wanted to see progress in, moving objects through solid things, failed to show much progress. Starke sent out word to all the best engineers and scientists that he would give a large amount of money to anyone who could manage to solve the problem. Many answered, but those who went failed to return again.

Onboard the train, a satchel was found that had papers concerning a famous shipwreck. Tony Starke was amazed at the revelations about the shipwreck and the people involved.
Mostly Heep - May 30, 2006 03:35 AM (GMT)
Starke sat in silence as he read and re-read the papers in his hand, not quite beleiving his eyes.
"No wonder nobody's ever made any inroads into this technology" He said to himself."The answers in over 15,000 feet of water in the Atlantic"He shook his head and reached for the phone.
"Olin" Said the voice on the other end.
Starke sat up straighter."Jake.Good to hear your voice again.I need your help"
"Oh God! not you again Tony.I thought this number was unregistered.Time to fire another secretary."
Tony laughed."In the twenty years we've known each other Olin you've never once been nice to me,I don't know why I put up with you?"
"Because I'm the best Starke, thats why. What can I do for you this time"
"I need a submersible capable of reaching 15,000 feet and they support ship to go with it"
"Ok.Can I ask why?"
"I need to dive The Bismarck. It has something I need"Starke replied quietly
gamaytrout103 - May 30, 2006 03:48 AM (GMT)
"The Bismarck?" repeated Olin in disbelief. "Why?"
"Long story that I'll explain when we meet. Can you do it?" Starke asked anxiously, his eyes locked on the papers in his hand.
"Can I do it? Can a fish swim? Of course I can do it," Olin scoffed. "But this isn't going to be a walk through any park. We'll need a high tech submersible and more people to help with the dive. I can't make a dive like that alone."
"I'll front the money. Get what you need. This is important," Starke told hm.
Olin looked at an old picture on the wall. "This might not work, but I have an old friend at NUMA. Maybe he'll help out. I'll call you back and let you know what's going on here."
Olin picked up the phone and dialed a familar number.
tonym5 - May 30, 2006 04:23 AM (GMT)
November 1977. Rudi answered the phone and recognized Olin's voice. After listening for a few minutes, Rudi replied. "I can get you a submersible from Scripps in La Jolla, California that is just perfect for the dive you describe. I will contact them for you and set it up. Good to hear from you, Olin".
gamaytrout103 - May 30, 2006 01:41 PM (GMT)
Gunn also asked Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala to help with the dive. Olin would meet them and the submersible on a ship that would be waiting over the wreck.
Olin got back on the phone with Starke. "We're set up. How about an explanation now?"
Starke replied, "You know that project I've been working on?"
"The one that has you half crazed? Of course I do," Olin answered.
"Well, I've found the answer," Starke said.

March 1978. "Welcome aboard the Maiden Princess, Mr. Starke, if you like we could give you a tour of the ship" said Captain Fernando Zale. Kurt and Joe were looking askance at the men behind Tony Starke. "I have brought some men that have been hired by my company with the necessary skills of manning the submersible over the shipwrecked Bismarck". Kurt replied, "Well, I guess we can sit this one out and if necessary act as seconds". Tony Starke and the two men walked by and followed the captain to their rooms aboard the ship.
tonym5 - May 31, 2006 11:20 PM (GMT)
Hatfield and Borden entered the submersible and closed the hatch behind them. The Submersible was lowered into the water. The submersible slid beneath the waters and took her slow but steady dive to 15,000 feet beneath the sea. Once they came on the Bismarck they turned on the Cameras so those aboard the ship could watch. As the submersible surveyed the entire wreck, everyone on board the ship watched. A hole was found in the side of the sunken ship. A small robotic ROV entered the sunken ship. Slowly but steadily the ROV made it's way through the ship and only had to use the robotic arms to move some small debris to keep going. Finally, the ROV came upon a storage room and Hatfield used a remote laser cutter that was on the ROV to gain entrance to the storage room. Once the door had been removed the ROV entered and found a trunk sized container that had symbols on the cover. The ROV used it's maneuverable arms to pick up the container and slowly but surely worked it's way back through the ship and out the opening. The ROV then reattached itself to the submersible and the combined machinery steadily made it's way back to the surface. Halfway towards the surface the magnetic coil for the generator lost it's power. The Submersible was stuck. Kurt and Joe went to work immediately to get the submersible back to the surface with another smaller but powerful submersible and a long cord from the ship and dove down and had to get close in without colliding the two submersibles. Joe got into a pressurized dive suit to close the gap with the cord and attaching the two submersibles. Quickly getting back into the smaller submersible, Joe took off the dive suit and then finally both submersibles worked their way back to the surface.
tonym5 - May 31, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
Once the container was onboard the Maiden Princess, Tony Starke and his men grabbed it and kept it in a well guarded room aboard the ship. Captain Fernando Zale was informed to make his way back to the United States quickly. Five days later the Maiden Princess arrived in the port city of Jacksonville, Florida. Tony Starke, the container and his men were first off the ship and left quickly in a caravan of specially built SUV's.
gamaytrout103 - June 1, 2006 03:25 PM (GMT)
Before they could make it back to the facility, they were ambushed. Black SUV's surrounded the Starke caravan, and tried to force them to stop. Luckily, the thieves were unaware of which of Starke's cars held the container, and two of the front SUV's were able to force a whole in the wall the intruders had formed around them. Then Stake's SUVs scattered, leaving the thieves unsure of which SUV to follow.

Starke was pleased after he had the container opened in the lab and found what he was looking for. The strange metal disc was placed inside the device that would revolutionize human travel and transport of cargo through space, time and distance. After the testing of the new technology proved his theories were correct, he transported the train back inside the mountain where it was found and then brought it back successfully. Oh what a wonderful advance in technology! Starke realized that opportunists would do everything in their power to get it. Luckily he had the most elaborate security system to protect it from any possible thieves.

May 1978. Over 50 Miles north from Hill Valley, Gunther Garth was grinning at the strip mine that was nearly 24 square miles of ruined earth and was contemplating the new strip mine nearly four miles south that had strong potential for profits. The Cell phone in his belt pocket started playing "One Tin Soldier Rides Away" and he grabbed it and flipped it open, "Yeah, what is it?" growled Gunther. "Sir, we just found something at the new mine site that you should see" answered the voice of a young man. Flipping his cell phone shut and repocketing it without replying, Gunther got into the Jeep and drove to the new mine. Fifteen minutes later, Gunther was looking at an old 1910s biplane that was marked U.S. Mail on it's side. "Sir, it was not uncommon for these planes to crash in these mountains because the weather in this area was usually rough for these early pilots and many of them lost their lives in their attempts to reach Cleveland or Chicago" answered Ben Matlock. "But we do have to hand the contents of the plane over to the Postal Service including the remains of the pilot inside" continued Ben Matlock. Before anyone said anything Gunther Garth was going through the mailbags out of curiosity. After going through four bags and working on the fifth one, Gunther came across a letter from Evelyn Dinkle to one Gordon Garth, Gunther's grandparents. Quickly scanning the letter, Gunther learned that Evelyn was writing from her home in Washington. D.C. where she was working for the Federal government to her fiance, Gordon Garth about the upcoming building of the Hill Valley Dam. She also said that the construction workers had come across strong deposits of coal in the area and were told by the government to ignore the deposits and continue working. Gunther grinned and quickly pocketed the letter and told his men to take care of the plane and scrambled to his jeep and drove south towards Hill Valley. More coal deposits, thought Gunther meant more profits and power for the Gunther-Renke Company.

After doing some title searches for the area in Hill Valley, Gunther learned that Tony Starke owned most of the land in the area and decided to visit the man at Starke Labs. Once the secretary allowed him into Tony Starke's office, Gunther did not waste time and made his case to buy up enough land to do some strip mining. The look on Tony Starke's face told Gunther that it was not going to be as easy as he had hoped. "No, I am sorry, Mr. Garth, I could not in good conscience allow that kind of mining to ruin the natural wonders of this area. The Natural scenery of this area has been marred enough by such mining that destroys such locations" says Tony Starke. "Mr. Starke, we are no longer doing this kind of mining because of the federal laws that prohibit us from strip mining and we can only do sideways and tunnel mining now. We are forced by federal laws to cover even open pit mines once we dig out the deposits now. Our economy depends upon these jobs and the less reliance on foreign oil supplies for energy needs are of national importance, Mr. Starke. I can only ask you to allow us to do what we can mine and replace the natural losses at our expense". "Very well then, I will give it some thought and if necessary, ask you to keep your operations in a small but well defined area" replies Tony Starke.

Poring over the maps for a week and a half, Tony Starke decided to let Gunther Garth mine a remote section that was pretty well isolated from anything. When he informed Gunther Garth of the area allowed for limited mining operations, Gunther complained of the costs of access to the area. "I am allowing this Mr. Garth and cannot in good conscience be worried about any costs incurred in your operations" replied Tony Starke. Gunther was cursing after he put the phone down. Hmmm....maybe, just maybe I could expand the area without that stuck up Starke knowing about it, thought Gunther.

Knowing the potential of the greed that was Gunther Garth, Tony Starke asked his satellite division to keep a constant watch on the area that was to be mined including the entire area surrounding the mining location. Within six months a satellite picked up the signs of heat beneath the area that was not in the limited mining section and Tony Starke was informed. Calling Mr. Garth on the phone, Tony demanded a full accounting and a halt to the entire mining operations. Gunther was disgusted to learn that he had been found out of his attempts to go beyond the area allowed for mining operations. Gunther began thinking why Tony Starke was so interested in the area and the secretive lab operations run by the wealthy businessman. Gunther hired investigators to find out everything about the man and his businesses.

June 28, 1978. Kenneth Adleman, the lead Private Investigator had assembled all the reports of his team and was going over them when he came across one report on the adolescence of Tony Starke and how the young Tony was into history and esoteric fields. Kenneth called the Investigator who had done the research and learned that the investigator had interviewed several high school friends that knew the young Tony Starke. Questioning the Investigator about the interests of the young Tony was informative on the obscure interests that had occupied the young student. Gathering up all the reports, Kenneth went to Gunther Garth with the material and reported on the findings about Tony Starke. Coming to the report on Tony's adolescence in High School, Kenneth rattled off the esoteric fields that occupied Tony's interests. Gunther Garth realized in his mind why Tony Starke would be interested in the energy lines of the planet that was known as Geomancy and the obsession about Geography came together in the potential of several sites around the planet where energy lines converged. The mystical and conspiratorial aspects that involved the Holy Grail did not interest Gunther as much. But then again, wondered Gunther, what if the grail turned out to be something profitable, indeed.
tonym5 - June 12, 2006 08:09 AM (GMT)
Another interest of Tony Starke, when he was in High School was Cryptozoology which had gone over Kenneth and Gunther's head as to why Tony was interested in long dead creatures that no longer existed. Tony had heard stories about the Mothman when he had gone camping in Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Southeastern Ohio while in the Boy Scouts. Still another interest of Tony Starke was Cartography and how the early surveyors had mapped out the borders of the young United States in that part of the country. To Tony Starke, a theory had begun to germinate in his mind while in High School and would still take several years to come to fruition in his mind and he began a company that would investigate science and strange phenomena to further his interests and prove his theory.
tonym5 - June 12, 2006 08:22 AM (GMT)
To a lesser degree were interests in Hydrology and Geology that Tony Starke was interested in and would begin to investigate with not just his company but a non-profit group as well. This group was known as META. Metals, Energy and Technological Assesment was the full name and it's Executive Director was Harrison Forrester, a six foot tall and athletically built man in his early thirties who had already worked for the Federal government in the U.S. Geological Survey as special projects director of Geographical Information Systems. Before that he had been in the Navy, working for the Office of Naval Intelligence. Harrison Forrester had already been in the Hill Valley area before Tony Starke came to town.

1977. Felix Von Troxel, now 18 years old and working as an intern for U.S. Senator Robert Byrd, enjoys his job. Answering the phone for the executive assistant for the Senator and is told that Gunther Garth is waiting for his appointment with the Senator. Felix tells the page to have Mr. Garth come to the Senator's office. Felix welcomes the big, wealthy businessman in the anteroom of the Office Suite on the third floor of the Russell Long Senate Building. Felix buzzes the Senator and informs him Mr. Garth is here to see him. Senator Byrd opens his door and steps out to welcome his good friend and major contributor of his campaigns into his office with a hug and warm handshake. Felix feels scared everytime when the wealthy, powerful businessman comes to see the Senator. Half an hour later, Felix answers the phone again and is informed that former U.S. Senator Stuart Symington of Missouri and a guest are downstairs waiting to meet Senator Byrd. Felix tells the page to send them up and then buzzes Senator Byrd to tell him his next guest is on his way up. Senator Byrd and Mr. Garth walk out of the Senator's office and warmly say good bye to each other. A few moments later, former Senator Symington and a young girl of Felix's age walk into the anteroom of Senator Byrd's office suite. Felix and the young girl lock eyes and gauge each other with approving looks. Senator Byrd welcomes the former Senator and his grandaughter, Anne Symington. Senator Byrd tells Felix to entertain the young girl while he and former Senator Symington have a long luncheon appointment together. After the two men leave together. Felix and Anne introduce themselves and decide to have a lunch together. Over two hours later, Felix and Anne return to the office. Both Senators are back and still talking seriously when they hear Felix and Anne returning. Former Senator Symington and Anne then leave to return to their hotel. Senator Byrd looks at Felix and instinctively knows what must have occured and winks at the young man. Victor DiMattea, the Executive Assistant returns just as Senator Byrd turns back into his office. Even though Victor gives Felix a laundry list of chores to do, Felix is not bothered because he feels too exhilarated after having been with Anne Symington and knowing in his heart that they will be together again, not knowing that he has already impregnated Anne Symington with a future President of the United States.

July 1978. Rudi Gunn, feeling guilty of having borrowed Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala from the CIA's Marine Intelligence group, the Meta team, to help on the Bismarck dive, decides to try and make up for it by pulling some strings at the CIA to have them temporarily assigned on a new project for NUMA, to find a missing ship that had disappeared in the 1890s off the coast of South Africa. The name of the ship was the SS Morristown, a Shaw Saville Line ship that was believed to be near the west coast of the Cape Peninsula near Cape Town during a violent storm in 1897. The coast was remote, inaccessible and very rocky and enormous rollers from the Atlantic Ocean crashed against the formidible granite cliffs. It's believed that the ship lies about 90 meters down, and less than a quarter of a mile out from the rocky shore. James Sandecker remembers meeting Kurt Austin after forming NUMA back in 1975 and had asked the man to join the new federal agency but had been turned down. Still hoping that someday that Kurt Austin will tire of the CIA and come over to NUMA, he was pleased that Rudi had gotten him on a loaner from the CIA for this project.

Tony Starke was upset with all the questions from the federal bureacracy about his lab in Hill Valley until he learned that Gunther Garth had leaned on Senator Robert Byrd and lost his temper with Harrison Forrester. Tony Starke apologized after he calmed down and felt bad at losing his temper. Harrison Forrester was generous to accept it and said that he understood why anyone would lose their impatience with bureaucrats. "Would you do me a favor, Harrison and see what you can dig up on Gunther Garth?". "Sure thing, Tony".

June 1897. Captain Samuel Gunther Garth, onboard the SS Morristown, just off the coast of South Africa, was waiting for the return of the strange men who had taken a mysterious crypt onshore to be buried in the interior of the country. A ship came into view as storm clouds had appeared just behind it. Within minutes the crew of that ship were hailing to board the Morristown. Not knowing of what was coming, Captain Garth allowed a small party of four men onboard. Within seconds they had taken machine guns that had been hidden by their big coats and killed several of Captain Garth's crewmen. One man approached Captain Garth and demanded, "Where is the Amasa Stone, old man?!?". "I do not know what you are talking about sir" replied the Captain. "Did you not see the stone that they were carrying with them?". "The only thing I saw was a child's crypt being taken ashore" answered the Captain. Stunned, the mysterious man turned to one of his men and whispered something. Shots rang out as Captain Garth heard the rest of his crew being slain and he himself was wounded. Captain Garth laid on the deck as he heard the murderers were setting about to sink his ship. Captain Garth forced himself to crawl to a lifeboat and released it into the water on the opposite side of his ship from where the mysterious ship was located. Scrambling into the lifeboat, Captain Garth made for the coast. Barely making shore, Captain Garth was exhausted and as he sat on the shore he grabbed a pencil and paper and wrote a note to Darius D'Adamo what had happened onboard the SS Morristown and slowly stood up and began walking inland. Captain Garth's body would be found later by Darius D'Adamo. Darius found a second note inside the Captain's pocket written to his wife and son, Gordon Garth. "D#@$ that Gly family!!! Fearing Gly will pay for killing my youngest son!!". Darius D'Adamo swore that no one will ever find the Amasa Stone. The knowledge written on it would be too shocking for the world to handle. Knowing full well that Adelbert Hay, the son of the U. S. Secretary of State, John Hay had witnessed the killing of his son could lead to consequences if either Fearing Gly were to find out or should I take care of Adelbert Hay myself? Asked Darius within his mind.

Hearing the story about the Garth family and the mysterious sinking of the Morristown back in June of 1897, Tony Starke asked Harrison Forrester to dig up some more information on the Garth family. A few days later, Harrison Forrester, while following a lead, found himself in Hawaii. Walking into the outer office of Admiral Hunter, Harrison was allowed into the Admiral's office. 'Harrison!! My young friend!! How are you doing? What brings you to sunny Hawaii?". "Admiral Hunter! It's a pleasure to see you again, sir. What's it been? Six years? Wow, where has the time gone? To tell you the truth, sir, I am looking into a sensitive matter about Gunther Garth, whom I believe had some dealings with the Navy a few years back concerning an alleged transfer of sensitive technology from Southeast Asia. A certain powerful and organized outfit run by one Wo Fat had made a deal with Gunther Garth and that the state police, 5-0 had cooperated with you in stopping this transfer of mining technology that was thought at that time to be advanced". "Yes, indeed, Mr. Garth had come to us as a defense technology company and when he was here, had tried to make that deal with Wo Fat that I, along with Charles Townsend and Steve McGarrett had to stop from happening". "I see. I was wondering about a certain young Air Force major at the time that had a minor role in your destroying Gunther Garth's plans. Do you recall the name of this man and where I might find him?" replied Harrison Forrester. "Why, yes I do, that was Dirk Pitt. I believe he's still here on Oahu and working for NUMA. Let me find his number for you, Harrison". "Thank you, sir, I certainly appreciate your kindness".

Sitting at his desk, thinking of ways to get back at Tony Starke, Gunther Garth realized slowly that penetrating the secret lab run by Tony Starke would be a surefire way to get back at the man who had stopped him from mining in the Hill Valley area. Gunther picks up the phone and calls for help in finding someone who knew security setups and learned that one Topol Mysterre was the "to go to" man for breaching security systems. He dialed the phone number that had been given to him and hired the mysterious Topol Mysterre.
tonym5 - June 17, 2006 10:53 PM (GMT)
August 1978. On an moonless night Topol Mysterre approached the Starke lab in Hill Valley. Topol assumed that there would be at least a hybrid system of both wire and wireless systems that connected to the control center somewhere in the lab and had a special device to take down such a system. It would be more difficult if the sensors were connected to the control center through the premises electrical circuits. Pressing a button on his hand held device, Topol deactivated the wired and wireless systems. With another hand held device he learned that indeed the sensors were connected to the electrical circuits. Sensing that if he had not already alerted the control center it would definitely be alerted if he tried to fry the closed circuitry of the lab's security system. Frustrated but not without some imaginative efforts, it could be done without alerting the control center. Topol also considered that there may be even more sophisticated systems that he has yet to consider. Topol ran through the list of other types of closed systems that could still be in place to protect such a sophisticated lab system as the one that he was looking at through his night vision goggles.
tonym5 - June 17, 2006 11:13 PM (GMT)
Working feverishly on a portable computer, Topol Mysterre had managed to penetrate the lab's intranet data center and was trying to find the types of closed circuitry systems that could trip him up but was finding it hard to come across the security systems subset. After a thorough search, Topol realized that it was not to be found in the intranet data system. Totally blocked out, Topol began to work on several ideas to find the security system setup. A slow realization came upon Topol as he ran through each of his ideas and none had panned out. It was just possible that the Security System's setup was working on an outside system like a private data company. Topol began a computer search of all of Tony Starke's holdings and after several minutes of intensive search had found a small company that seemed innocuous enough to be what he was looking for. Indeed, once he found the company's intranet data system, he found the specs on the security system that was contracted with Starke lab. He dug his way into the security system's setup and began to deactivate it. Once he was done, an Alert popped up on his computer and Starke Lab's control center knew he was outside the building and before he was able to run 100 feet, he was stopped by heavily armed guards. He was marched into the building and locked in an empty room.

Tony Starke was awakened by a phone call from the security personnel in Starke lab's control center. Thanking them, Tony went back to sleep. Getting up at his usual 6am time and drove to corporate headquarters in suburban Vandalia, Ohio. After a few hours working in his office, Tony drove to Dayton Iinternational Airport and took his corporate jet to the Morgan City Regional Airport that was located over 80 miles from Hill Valley. A limousine took Tony Starke to the lab in Hill Valley. Arriving at the lab in early evening, Tony looked over some reports on the projects and talked with a couple of scientists. It was after 8:30 pm when Tony walked into the spare room where Topol sat at a table.

Telling Harrison Forrester how he had gone to Vietnam and visited the Golden Triangle area, where Dirk saw for himself the ravaged earth where the mining of minerals in what had once been the drug trade's nest of powerful warlords who trafficked drugs worldwide. Dirk Pitt also recalled to Harrison how he had accidentally shot down Admiral Sandecker's plane while protecting the Admiral from being attacked, Harrison laughed. Harrison himself had been in the Vietnam war as a tunnel rat in the tunnels of the Cu Chi area. Afterwards the two men shared some beers at a rundown shanty of a bar. "That mining equipment has thankfully been used sparingly since it's arrival in the U.S. and eventually stopped because of the political pressure brought to bear on strip mining. After I returned to Hawaii and learned that Mr. Garth had been stopped by the Navy, State Police and the influence of one private investigator who has since retired, I was relieved. It was only later that I learned about leylines and the influence of it on certain mining companies and other profiteers who were following in the footsteps of quacks who were more interested in the religious or political artifacts of history. I don't put much stock in that stuff myself, but who knows historical treasures than those who are fanatical about it or mad profiteers lurking about".

August 1978. Later, after Harrison Forrester left Hawaii, Dirk dug out of his pocket the strange coin he had found in the Golden Triangle of Vietnam and laughed as he flipped it in the air, thinking of it's possible importance to some strange kook, hunting about for it. Hah! Finders keepers, thought, Dirk Pitt as he turned around from the bar and saw the most ravishing red headed beauty that made his heart jump into his throat.

"I pretty much know why you tried to break into my secretive labs, Mr. Mysterre. Yes, I know who you are and could care less about Mr. Garth finding anything that would be of any use to him in my labs, because he could not conceive in his capitalist mind the significance of my research projects conducted here with one possible exception of an element known as Argonium 3159 and yes you can tell him about it because he would not know what to do with it. You will be released soon and as for your nosy way of digging through the layers of security that protect these labs, I will tell you that we were on to you from the moment you disconnected the wired and wireless systems. Hopefully you will tell Mr. Garth that it was pointless of your valiant efforts to try and penetrate my security. The private data company you hacked into was a dummy for quacks like you. The security I have here is like a chinese maze. You were just sent down one of those paths that led nowhere fast. Good-bye, Mr. Mysterre and I never want to see your face again, for if I do, you will die next time".

On a warm summer day the people of Hill Valley were outside and enjoying the weather when a few noticed that a strange aircraft was exiting from the roof of Starke Labs. The miniaturized jet was blue in color and it took off in a screaming arc into the sky and headed towards the narrow valley behind the town of Hill Valley. The Blue Jet hovered just above the mine shaft and shot a wide laser beam into the mountain. Within seconds trace elements of Argonium 3159 were being drained from the mountain as more and more was being taken from the mountain. After nearly thirty minutes the Blue Jet was finished and took off for another site 20 miles away and repeated the process. Several times that day the Blue Jet would hover over a site in the chain of mountains and without disturbing the surrounding area, drained all the Argonium 3159 in the area. As the sun was setting the Blue Jet returned to Starke Labs.

Tony Starke was lying on the couch at home, listening to "Danny Boy" on his Broadsword brand Entertainment Center when he heard the beep of an incoming email on the computer. Tony went to the Computer and looked at the streaming data on the Argonium 3159 that appeared on his computer screen. Tony was pleased with the results of yesterday's mining of the element in the mountains near Hill Valley. Piloting the advanced Blue Jet was a thrill and then to watch the element being beamed aboard the Blue Jet through the special laser technology that drained elements from any site on Earth. Tony Starke had taken the technology that had been developed in Southeast Asia and took it beyond it's initial laser style of mining to that of draining the element through the laser beam itself that left little telltale signs of disturbing the ground.

October 1978. Having succeeded at his goals in Hill Valley, Tony Starke was about to wrap up all of the projects at Starke Labs when one of the Scientists that was monitoring for signs of the Mothman creature, informed Tony that a sighting by one of the many hidden cameras in the woods near Hill Valley had spotted the creature. Tony saw for himself on the Video monitor the Mothman creature and decided to stick around awhile longer.

October 1978. After being told of Argonium 3159 by Topol Mysterre, Gunther Garth was not making any progress in finding anything about the element. Finally realizing that his political influence to destroy Tony Starke was being matched dollar for dollar in the halls of Congress. Gunther Garth was losing his patience and decided to go with a full frontal assault on Starke Labs on Halloween night. An army of well armed men advanced on Starke Labs and made it past the fence and then straight into the lobby where they were met by four armed men that matched them in firepower. The ensuing firefight lasted just over five minutes with most of Gunther's men wounded or dying and only one of Starke Lab's security men was wounded. Gunther Garth walked in and decided to take a tour of the building and was enraged to find the building was nearly emptied of all scientific equipment. Meanwhile, in the nearby woods Tony and his men were tracking the Mothman creature. When the creature began to realize he was being followed, he took flight with his wings. But Tony had already a detection unit built to track the creature. For the next several days there was continuous pursuit of the creature over a vast area that included West Virginia, Southeast Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and finally Virginia in December 1978. Tony had decided that he could not keep up the pursuit after the first of November and flew to Hawaii to take care of his pregnant girlfriend, Summer Moran. In January of 1979 Summer had informed Tony that she was not pregnant with his child and now knew she was pregnant with twins. Due in late April or May, Summer was happy. Tony Sharpe, realizing the kids would need a father because Summer told him of the consequences if her father knew that Dirk Pitt was the true father of the twins. Tony Sharpe had met the young beauty back in June and was stunned that she had gotten pregnant with another man's kids. His love for Summer never wavered despite the knowledge and her father's obvious lunacy. On February 24, 1979 Tony was informed that one of the men in pursuit of the Mothman had wounded the creature. March 22, 1979 Tony Starke ran into Gunther Garth while in Los Angeles and the two fought in the hallway of an office tower. Tony was bleeding from his mouth when he spotted the door that led to the roof and took off for it with Gunther Garth in pursuit. On the roof, Tony again had to defend himself in a more brutal fight that he had ever fought. Now fighting for his life, Tony knew it would have to come down to his death or Gunther's. With an roundhouse blow to his ribcage, Tony danced about awkwardly in pain and slammed into an AC unit. Another blow from Gunther cut Tony's cheek. Tony came back with his two hands in one fist that slammed Gunther over the edge of the roof level and onto the next section of the roof. Tony jumped onto the man's legs almost pinioning Gunther to the roof and came down with a blow in the lower section of Gunther's belly that took the man's breath away. Tony then smashed a powerful blow on Gunther's face. Gunther roared upwards and knocked Tony off of him. Tony staggered towards the edge and swung himself away from it. Gunther came at Tony, and with a sidestep, Tony swung his head away from a blow. Gunther, not realizing that he had taken one step too far, had tripped himself onto the roof before the edge. Tony jumped on the man with all of his body. Gunther roared out loud and tried to heave the slightly built frame of Tony Starke. Tony twisted about to avoid going over the edge. Gunther roared up towards Tony at that same moment and was in full attack when he went over the edge of the building, falling fourteen stories to his death. After looking over the edge of the building for a moment to see Gunther's broken body, Tony knew he had to get the heck out of the building quick. Tony made it to a nearby alley just in time to escape the authorities. Tony made his way to a nearby small restaurant where he ducked into the restroom quickly to clean up. While in the restroom, Tony called for a car to take him to the Van Nuys Airport. Less than an hour later, Tony was boarding his private jet and told the pilot to head for Hawaii quickly.

May 19, 1979. Summer Moran gave birth to twins, one boy and one girl. Tony Starke held the baby boy in his arms while Summer held the baby girl in her arms. Summer had the biggest, most beautiful smile Tony had ever seen and knew he could never leave her. The nurse came into the room to take the babies to let Summer rest in peace. Reluctantly, Tony left Summer so that she could rest. The cell phone in his pocket vibrated. "What's up?" asked Tony. "We believe the Mothman is dead or hiding in some underground river below us here in the mountains of Virginia. The last time we saw it, it appeared weak from the pursuit. I'm sorry, Tony, but it looks like we have lost the creature and believe that it is dying. I'm truly sorry, Tony, but I know it was important for you to find this creature. We are tired too, after months of pursuing the creature. I'm sure that you will compensate us when you have the time. Oh, and congratulations on the birth of the babies, Mr. Starke, We just heard from your assistant". The End
