Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the covert combat ship Oregon have barely escaped a mission on the Congo River when they intercept a mayday from a defenseless boat under fire off the African coast. Cabrillo takes action, saving the beautiful Sloane Macintyre-who's looking for a long-submerged ship that may hold a fortune in diamonds. But what surprises Cabrillo is her story about a crazy fisherman who claims to have been attacked on the open sea by giant metal snakes in the same area.
What begins as a snake hunt leads Cabrillo onto the trail of a far more lethal quarry-a deranged militant and his followers who plan to unleash the devastating power of nature itself against all who oppose them.

You bloody lucky devil!!!!
Andy in West Oz - October 4, 2006 12:27 AM (GMT)
Onya Rob, hope you enjoy it...but then that's pretty much to be expected given the name on the cover!
Have seen it advertised in HB down here. On sale too but I wait for the PB to come out so it doesn't take up as much room on the shelf. Add to that I haven't even started the Oregon series or read Lost City or Polar Shift yet...I think I deserve a good talking too!
Cheers beer:
Andy (who is suddenly rather happy at the prospect of reading a few Cusslers!)
Kellym - October 4, 2006 12:44 AM (GMT)
Andy I'm with you, I've been slacking were Cussler is concerned...I have Polar Shift & Dark Watch on the shelf waiting to be read, I was about to rush out to the 24hr store and add Skeleton Coast to the list when it occured to me that it probably wouldn't be there since Dark Watch still isn't out here :(
At least like you I have the prospect of reading a couple of Cussler books. Plus if I had read Polar Shift it wouldn't have been at work and if it wasn't at work the person that read it wouldn't have been able too....that reminds me I must find out who read it! det:
Andy in West Oz - October 4, 2006 12:59 AM (GMT)
Aha, have you introduced another person to CC? Excellent!
Dark Watch is out down here in small PB and I have seen PS in HB. I have Lost City, Golden Buddha, Sacred Stone and Sea Hunters II (had that for a couple of years now...naughty!) sitting on my shelf waiting patiently. I've come across some books that I haven't read and, checking Amazon, bought at the end of 2001!
That's embarrassing!

Well, not as exactly. They introduced themselves  I took the book into work to read but only managed to get through a couple of pages until all hell broke loose (that's every shift lol) and it's just been sitting there patiently waiting. One day I happened to glance at it and thought to myself....surely I haven't read that much of it, and then the next time I was at work the bookmark had moved again and the same happened again until they finished it...rather cheeky really, I lost my place  So I'm starting from the beginning ;)
2001 now that is embarrassing, I'm not that bad. But I do have Sea Hunter II waiting to be read and the first one waiting to be finished. Heck! We are as bad as each other!!

Oh no, you're much worse! :P I can tell. j:
Seriously, I also just love turning my chair around and looking at the books on my shelf. Makes me happy knowing all the good stuff I have to look forward to!
Think I've hijacked the thread. Sorry!

You guys are slackers!! I bought the book Tuesday when i arrived in Vegas, and finished it by Wednesday night! gave up some gambling time to do it too.
This may be sacralidge, but I am enjoying The Oregon Files more than the last string of Dirk books.
sahara, Inca Gold, Treasure, Cyclops... ah, the good old days.

Just got it yesterday. It has a different cover to that here in New Zealand. Only in TPB size but just had to have it. I'd prefer to wait for it to come out in PB to fit with the others on my shelf but just don't have to self control to wait! Turns out hubby was going to buy it for me fo Christmas, he'll just have to buy the other new Cussler book due in December! Haven't started Skeleton Coast yet, I want to finish the book I'm on before I jump in & the anticipation of knowing it is there is a lot of fun too. :)
loren1 - October 8, 2006 07:54 PM (GMT)

Fantastic!!! The book was fast paced and just a good story. Du Brul has done amazing work with the Oregon Files.
