Title: The next movie I would like to see
blackjack - July 31, 2006 05:47 AM (GMT)
Vixen 03. I think that would be one of the most movie friedly books in the DP series. They can film on a real Iowa class battleship (if the other 3 aren't around somewhere then the Missouri is at Pearl Harbor). And with terrorism so close to home these days, I think the shells hitting Washington and everything would make this an instant classic.
Titanic Fanatic - July 31, 2006 07:01 AM (GMT)
I'm trying to remember, wasn't this one the book that takes place after Raise the Titanic?
Anyway, no matter. I too would love to see this one on the screen. It's probably my third favorite behind RTT and Night Probe. I'm not so sure about it being the most movie-friendly, but I'm sure it would be a lot simpler to transfer than Sahara.
On a related note, one of the things I liked about this was the use of the U.S.S Iowa. There was a time when the Iowa class was my favorite type of warship, and I studied a bit on her and her sisters. So the scenes of the Iowa in the book, though she was being used for bad, were interesting to me and I'd love to see how they transfer to the screen.
But I personally think they would have to tread a bit more carefully with the terrorist scenes. I don't know, but with all that's been happening both in America and around the world, showing the shells hitting Washington might hurt a film adaptation more than help it, as you seem to have alluded. (But correct me if I'm wrong)
But anyway, yeah, good thought. If they can actually get a Dirk Pitt movie right for a change, this should probably be it. (Or Night Probe. Either way I'd be happy :) )
loren1 - October 31, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
You are so right about having to be very careful about terrorist attacks now. It's sad that the world has come to this. The Med Caper would make a good movie too, right up there with Inca Gold.
Nick Kitt - November 1, 2006 03:51 AM (GMT)
How about starting at the beginning--PACIFIC VORTEX ?? That would be an easy adaptation.
Empress - November 1, 2006 01:15 PM (GMT)
When it comes to movies and screenplays there are no easy adaptations. I've started a number of screenplays on material I knew backwards and forwards and always get stuck because I'm missing book flow. I love the character parts, I could write characterizations all day, as you guys found out from my short story. I can't wait to see what TF is working on right now becasue it is my favorite book.
Sorry John but your imagine is completely stuck in my head as the part of Foss Fly!
Nick Kitt - November 1, 2006 02:28 PM (GMT)
Maybe. But VORTEX was such a simple novel in comparison to the later much longer sagas that the stories have become. If VORTEX had become the first movie, with it's simple plot, alot more screen time could have been devoted to the characters without so much sacrifice to the action and important aspecs of the story. Then you could dispense with some established characterizations in later movies, because the movie audience is already familar with them, and concentrate on the inclusion of the vital scenes and "flow" of the much longer novels without raising the ire of those seeking more literal translations from page to screen.
loren1 - November 1, 2006 02:35 PM (GMT)
You have some valid points. The first movie Raise The Titainc was of great intrest to the general public I believe this is why it was made in the first palce. It wasn't the best but if Dr. Cussler's input had been look at witha little more reguard it could have been better than it was. t:
Nick Kitt - November 2, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
Hey,everyone, they just announced the start of filming NATIONAL TRESURE 2 with Nic Cage reprising his action hero role. Get this--the plot involves Abe Lincoln and John Booth and the "missing 18 pages of Booth's diary." Maybe it's the discarded Lincoln subplot from SAHARA--LOL !! Anyway, let's hope this lawsuit gets cleared up fast. I would hate if Nic Cage starts stealing
Dirk's thunder. There is such potential here and we are wasting our time in courtrooms. And NATIONAL TRESURE wasn't even as good as SAHARA !! Oh,well.
Empress - November 2, 2006 12:04 AM (GMT)
Sounds like a great plot!!! Do we know if NT2 is based on a previously published book?
Nick Kitt - November 2, 2006 12:56 AM (GMT)
Yes, the diary of John Wilkes Booth--minus 18 pages,of course !!!
Empress - November 2, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
Alot of people keep diaries, I didn't know if someone had compiled them and made a book of it with this twist. This answered my question, Screenwriter Gregory Poirier, so I'm good to go.
loren1 - November 2, 2006 01:30 AM (GMT)
I loved NT1, can't wait for the second one. th:
oswalder - November 2, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
So many people complained that Sahara was too similar to NT1 and thus Sahara lost some glory. I'd hate to see the same thing happen to another CC book coming too soon after NT2. Maybe it's better the next movie is delayed a bit.
Nick Kitt - November 2, 2006 05:10 AM (GMT)
One can only hope. Everyone is ripping Mr Cussler off in some way and the rest of Hollywood is chuckling because they can't get a Dirk Pitt movie out to challenge any of the new franchises. The irony is not that Mr Cussler himself is preventing this or that NT is starting to pick up steam and might leave our Mr Pitt in the dust. The REAL irony is that the action adventure genre is about to get a new king and he's been in the movies for over forty years. NIGHT PROBE and Brian Shaw be damned---James Bond is going to roar back and reclaim the throne. CASINO ROYALE is going to be HUGE !!!
Mr Cussler,we need a movie and we need it SOON !!!!!!!

I'm sure the two of you can learn alot from each other.

In what sense?
Nick Kitt - November 2, 2006 11:08 PM (GMT)
In any sense you can think of. Mr Poirier has written the second installment of a francise that has Dirk Pitt overtones and you fancy yourself a screenwriter who can write characterizations all day,but has plot flow problems with material you know backwards and forwards. So,what do YOU think "in what sense" you could learn something?? Do you have any pointers for a man who should be,at this very moment, working on INCA GOLD if there was any real justice. I'm sure you do !!!!
Empress - November 3, 2006 12:09 AM (GMT)
There are quite a few things I do in this world for fun and since I'm a creative writing major, that happens to be one of them. I love to learn from the best just to satisfy my own bedside writing. I would love to sit down and listen to him and learn, I would love to do that with many writers and shipwreck historians (they are my first passion). I'm ballsy enough to call the writers and people of NUMA, some of whom I have met, to discuss topics to enlighten me. As I've found out, through them, there aren't many blue-eyed, brown haired petit women that love ships. The ones that do are here on this forum and if not I go out and find them. As we all know, knowledge is power!! Sorry to quote SHR. Other than that I'm just a girl from the land "where when it rains it Hurricanes!!"
Actually what intregues me more than the plot for NT2 would be writing the 18 pages that are missing, talk about brain power and a good time!!

Brian Shaw???? No way mate give me some Foss Gly and we're movie makin good to go!! With the sweetest ship to ever kiss Canadian waters of course!
Nick Kitt - November 3, 2006 05:14 AM (GMT)
Sounds good to me,but if it's up to the Grand Poohbah Mr Cussler, none of us will ever see PROBE in movie form. Since Brian Shaw is supposed to be you-know-who,then CASINO ROYALE and Daniel Craig are going to blow him, NIGHT PROBE and Foss Gly right out of the water along with your sweet ship !!!
And then we can all sit back and watch out intrepid hero take a distant back seat to Jason Bourne,Benjamin Franklin Gates, the revitalized 007,and most pathetic of all,a 65 year old Indiana Jones.
Thanks,Mr Cussler,feel better now ??
Empress - November 3, 2006 05:26 AM (GMT)
You saw that too about IJ4. Harrison Ford says he's up to it so we'll see. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't it take 4 years for Spielberg and Lucas to agreee on the script for this movie?
Unfortunately my sweet ship was slammed out of the water in 1914 so she is already gone. Like you I'll keep my fingers crossed for Night Probe and Inca Gold to appear on the big screen but if it doesn't happen then it doesn't happen. I'm selfish when it comes to the Empress of Ireland, if Night Probe was made I would go to see her and her alone, in the mean time I watch the videos that diver friends have sent me. That my friend is heaven and sorrow on the cold floor of the St. Lawrence.
Nick Kitt - November 3, 2006 05:33 AM (GMT)
I'll put it to you this way. If Mr Cussler takes a physic and lightens up and they film NIGHT PROBE, I would be honored to take you dancing on the main deck before they sink her.

Nick Kitt - November 3, 2006 02:18 PM (GMT)
Are you going to lead the toss Nick overboard party, loren, old girl ? I can't help it if my strong
opinions annoy you but you can really hurt your shoulder patting yourself on the back all the time. It would be nice if you would welcome newcomers without veiled references to people who have opposing ideas.
loren1 - November 3, 2006 02:27 PM (GMT)
I don't have to say anything, All they have to do is READ!!!! If you weren't such a disagreeable person no one who have a problem with you. Some people just never learn OLD MAN!

Time out old boy....obviousley you've read no further postings around here than this section.
We welcome everyone who posts here in case you hadn't noticed.
You can seem to figure out why you're so disliked?...it's no wonder you washed out of law school since you seem to put 2+2 together and come up with 3.
We have no problem with you or anyone having opposing opinions, that's what makes this a great place, but it's the way you present your arguments that has everyone pissed off.
Do you understand why now? Or should I have written it out in lawyer speak for ya w:

Strong opinions?? Veiled references?? Its not your strong opinions, its how you state them with your overpowering sarcasm. Re-read yourself with what you wrote to loren1 in my quote. Where on earth did you pick up "veiled references"? When I read loren1's "You crack me up Rob" I read it as just laughing at Rob saying he'd pay to watch that. Nothing more. Don't look for an excuse to stir the pot, just debate stuff in a healthy manner, PLEASE!

Learn what ?? How to express myself on a forum of free and open ideas? To feel strongly about an ideal and constantly express myself? You have the right to disagree and I have the right to express. I never say any thing bad about you,but as soon as someone new comes aboard, you are ready to throw a zinger at me. I feel VERY strongly about people in high positions who take advantage of people who support them. You know that and I will scream it as long as I can.
It's like TV, you don't like what's on,you change the channel. If you don't like what I say,then don't read it,OK. We disagree and that's that---deal ????
loren1 - November 3, 2006 03:01 PM (GMT)
It's hopeless. 2+2=3 yike:
jet_doctor - November 3, 2006 03:04 PM (GMT)
You are so missing the point. I told you in another post that I respect your opinions even if I don't agree with them and yes, you have every right to post them. What I strongly dislike, and so do others, is your pointed sarcastic attacks directed at people on the forum if they disagree with your opinion. You are the one who came on this forum and started "throwing zingers". Now they are just tossing them back.
You said... "I feel VERY strongly about people in high positions who take advantage of people who support them." That's cool! That is your opinion and you posted it. Just don't add all the pointed, attacking sarcasm at folks to go with it.

Lets see, I have 14 minutes to dance and as much as I appreciate the offers I'm afraid I must spend 13 of them dancing with David and Addy and during the final minute before we all sink can you say CONGA LINE and we all somehow find a lifeboat!!!!

i think they should leave making the movies of clive cussler books
the 2 that have been done already although watchable would not endear anyone who is not a fan of dirk and al to become fans of dirk and al
keep to the books they far better than any film
loren1 - December 8, 2006 12:48 PM (GMT)
We would all like to see more movies that follow the books. It is easy to understand that time limitations make that impossible but there isn't alot of the story left when Hollywood gets done with it. It's easy for them to say "Based on a book by Clive Cussler" but this is what draws all of us to see the movie and leave with a sense of disappointment.
Old Guy - February 25, 2007 02:07 AM (GMT)
The next movie has to be "Night Probe". It is my favorite of all the Cussler books, and the simplist one to make. It also has two great villians -- Foss Gly and Brian Shaw.
Obviously, there is only one man to play Brian Shaw, and that's Sean Connery. Brian Shaw is a retired British Secret Service Agent (obviously James Bond), and who else could play a 70-ish James Bond but Connery?
kazim9208 - March 13, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
Dragon is one of my other favorites. It would have some pretty awesome action scenes.
laws0061 - July 3, 2008 09:21 PM (GMT)
they need to remake sahara. dont make dirk into some treasure nut obsessed about finding the texas, give rudi some balls and make their boat as cool in the book. when i read that chapter describing the boat i thought wow, that is some boat. It destroyed half the Benin Navy! granted they only had 2 or 4 boats, but still it was awesome. Then there is the scene when the UN team rescues rudi. They land in the airport, imediatley disable it and call out for rudi. They could make that a little more dramatic maybe by landing then taking a rocket launcher to the control tower. Another major disappointment was massarde. in the book he was an evil madman, in the book he was a snivley little stooge of the general. so much disapointment in hollywood.
