Title: Treasure of Khan
Description: The next DP

Nick Kismet - September 10, 2006 05:55 AM (GMT)
I was doing a little online research and found mention of new book from CC & DC called Treasure of Khan due out in December of this year. I've verified it on Amazon.

Is impatiently waiting!!! p:

Nice cover. Mine was pre-ordered a long time ago. Can't wait!!!!! t:

WOO HOO! SOOOO Looking forward to it! th:

MrKABC - September 12, 2006 06:04 AM (GMT)
Now THAT is what I am waiting for!!

No Kurt Austin, no lame-o Oregon Files... just the tried and true DP adventures. Hopefully this one won't suffer the uneven writing of the last two books.

Fingers crossed!!!

Now for a memorable quote from this new book: "Dirk, do you know of the ancient Klingon proverb that says 'revenge is a dish best served cold'? It is very cold in space..."

pink little birdie - September 12, 2006 11:01 AM (GMT)
Hip Hip Hooray!!
Does anyone know When is it due out in Australia? t:

Raess - September 23, 2006 04:33 AM (GMT)
Any idea if it is going to be more of Dirk and Summer or Dirk Sr. and Al?

mskbflo - September 23, 2006 06:35 AM (GMT)
The new book is scheduled for release on 12/5
I will be seeing CC & DC on 12/9 for a signing of it. I'm sure it will be the first signing of it so my copies should be first editions.
It may even be their only signing since Dr C. doesn't tour much anymore.
If anyone wants to wait to buy their copy, I can get them signed ones.
I will not be able to get these donated by him, (too new) so I will be paying full price (unless Costco gets them in within the first few days)
You know I never rip you people off so the extra cost for the signatures will only be $10.00 on top of the price of the book. (+ shipping of course)
I know I will have to buy one at full price to get a place at the signing ($28.00) & then hopefully I can get the rest at Costco for about $16.00
I will then average out the price so you can all save money.

I wasn't going to mention any of this until it got closer, but since you brought up the subject....
Hopefully I will be able to get them personalized to you, so let me know who's going to want them. (Erik, Rob, Julie, Heather....)
As always, I will also include photos of them from the signing.

Check the cover again Andy that's a Fokker tri-motor pictured not the Ford Tri-Motor that Dirk owns. The Fokker Tri-motor was built originally for polar exploration and there is one on display at the Henry Ford museum. If anyone gets in the Detroit area drop me a line and I'll be more than happy to take you on a trip to the Henry Ford museum.

It's been brought to my attention that someone at the convention told Wayne about my offer to get the signed first editions of this book for you & he seemed to have a problem with it.
He felt why should you get them from me when you can just order them from the store yourself.
No one told you you couldn't do that. You're welcome to contact the store where the signing is & order the book directly.
I don't know if anyone else has a problem with my offer but I just made this offer as an accomodation to those of you who wouldn't be able to get a signed first edition in your city & may not know where you could order one.
Those of you that know me, know I never rip you off & I wasn't planning to now.
As I said in my original post, these would not be donated to me by Dr. C, as the foreign editions are, & that I would probably have to pay full price for them, so you would have to pay full price & shipping & only $10.00 extra for the signatures. I didn't think that was ridiculous.
You know how much these will go for on eBay....

Truth is, I recently found out that Dr. C may not be at the signing because he may be in California with his lawsuit. If he's not there, I wouldn't go anyway.

Bottom line is, if anyone has a problem with my offering to get these for you, then just don't order it from me!!
It's no big deal to me & I can just as easily say forget it, get the book yourselves.

I may just be reacting too sensitively, but I don't like people who don't know me saying negative things about me.
On the other hand, these same people thought the prices for the foreign books were too high. Did they expect them for free? Where else can anyone get a brand new foreign paperback direct from Dr C's collection for $5.00 & help a charity at the same time?
Whatever, it takes all kinds.
I just needed to vent

Als_Pal - October 23, 2006 03:50 PM (GMT)
I cannot wait for this to come out!!!!!!

This is good news. It's been to long without them :(

Margrete - October 23, 2006 06:50 PM (GMT)
I'm wondering about one thing. on amazon.de there is a difference of about 8 euros between the two different covers of this book, the the book with the second cover shown in this thread costs more and it's also written that it comes out on the 30 of november. Why is there such a difference on the same book?

loren1 - October 24, 2006 12:00 AM (GMT)
I thimk Margrete that the one cover is a U.K. cover. Why the difference in price I don't know. Merrille can you field this question?

mskbflo - October 24, 2006 07:28 AM (GMT)
Margrete,
I also do not know why there is a discrepancy.
The release date here is Nov 28 & the first cover is the US cover.
I also think the 2nd cover is the UK cover & maybe it just costs more.
I don't know the value of 8 Euros, so I don't know how big the discrepancy is.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I'm just hoping the Dr. C. will give my organization copies of the foreign editions as they get sent to him.

Margrete - October 24, 2006 02:21 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the replays. 8 euros is approximately 10 US dollars, and with both being hardcovers I find that to be a bit to much especially when I want the second one (it being the cooler cover in my opinion) which costs 30 euros (appr 38 US dollars)

I can't wait to read the new book. I hope to be at the signing this year. I missed the signing for Black Wind due to my daughters birth kel: (I figure that is a good reason to miss the signing). This book should be great.

Raess - November 10, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)
Eagerly awaiting November 28th release in the US.

Can never get enough of Dirk & Al.

ordsgt - November 12, 2006 04:48 PM (GMT)
I am for one, very glad that Clive Cussler has put Dirk back in the field for The Treasure Of Khan. While I do also like the Kurt Austin books.I think Dirk and Al and now Dirk Jr and Summer will make a good read.I see summer and Dirk Jr filling the place Gamay andPaul Trout fill in the Austin books.I would also like to see Dirk finally marry Loren Smith.

I also like the Oregon Series of books as they are a bit different from the Pitt/Austin adventures. They give Cussler a chance to open up new areas and they can bend in the others as they did when he introduced the Oregon crew.

He's already married Loren at the end of Trojan Odyssey

I'd like to see him blend the other books into each other at some point....I think it would be a cool adventure.
Although Dirk did make an appearance in Skeleton Coast ;)

I just finished reading Treasure of Kahn. I, as you all, was impatiently waiting for the 28th release, when I stumbled upon a single copy in a bookstore at the Anchorage Airport. I am sure someone screwed up by putting it out, but I snatched it in a heartbeat. I won't provide any spoilers, but it does feature Dirk and Al and is a great read.

Now I have to wait for the next one. <_<

Pat ;)

Aaron James - November 22, 2006 07:09 PM (GMT)
Lucky! I guess I will have to wait 6 more days like a normal person. This book will be a great Christmas break read.
