Wow!!! It was fantastic. Last night I literally sat down and just read until I finished it. I couldn't put it down. I'm very excited by the fact that both Pitt and Austin make a short appearance in this book. Maybe we're getting closer to a story where all three will have active roles (hard to coordiante three authors though). Probably wishful thinking, but I can dream. Do you guys think Sloane will stay in it? I knew Tory wouldn't be back. He didn't offer Tory a job, Sloane he did. Stuff to think about... Anyway it was fantastic and I can't wait for the next one!!!

 I don't know if Slone will be back because he said office romances don't work. But, anyone can change thier minds. :P

I'd like to think she would be back, just to enhance Juans credibility as a good judge of character in choosing his crew. My only problem with her is where she would fit in with the crew, what role could she play? It is late, and I just finished the book so i haven't had the chance to look bac at any specifics yet but maybe somone could help me out with that one.

No matter how you slice it, Jack has breathed life into both the characters and the direction of the Oregon Files series. Each book (Dark Watch / Skeleton Coast) has built on the other to paint a clearer and more satisfying picture of Juan, his crew and the Oregon. I like how you learn more about Juan and his injury in Skeleton Coast, how you understand better the psyche surrounding his relationships with women via his past, and how the ship itself plays a major role in both books becoming, in a way, a character in itself. I found Skeleton Coast to be my favorite non-Clive written entry to date. What is a marvel, is he already writing the next one and hints it may be more enjoyable than the first two. My hats off to Jack - not that I wear a hat mind you - but I'm grateful he has joined Clive's writing team and that we have more exciting tales to look forward to in the future.

I too was wondering how Slone would fit in if they continued to use her in the Organ Files. I guess as a diamond expert she could be usefull but how many diamonds will they be running into in every story? If she was real quiet she could search dresser drawers.

You have a good point there.

I too thought the book was well written. It was the best Oregon Series book to date. I could not put it down. I am hoping the next one will come out in hard cover. As for Soane, I think a love interest for Cabrillo would be a goo subplot. They would find a way to put here into the story. I look foreward to the next in the series. b:

A love intrest for Cabrillo would be good, but if it's with slone she can't be working for him. His rules. She would need to be maybe an outside cousltant.

Finished the book in about a day and a half, the Oregon Files are definitely getting better as they go along.
Here is my take on the Juan/Sloane thing - I think she will take the job, they'll have a one night stand and leave it at that. I think Juan is too committed to the Oregon and the Corporation to add a love interest into that. I think that Sloane showed that she would make a fearless, versatile field agent with good investigative skills. Also if Juan & Sloane ended up as an item there would be no room for him to rescue any more damsels in distress - a situation that is a recurring theme in pretty much all of CC's books.

Pitt got married and Loren seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.

Just finished Skeleton Coast. Good book, although I prefer Sacred Stone and Golden Buddha more. Their plots seemed more intricate. Still looking forward to the next book in the Oregon Files series.

great book, prolly best so far IMHO. i too think she will join crew and it will be hushed romance maybe on holidays or adventures where it requires married couple as cover. but who knows. Love oregon files so far.

I know!!!!! Loren better be in Treasure of Khan. She is one of my favorite charaters and I'm going to be pissed if Cussler gets rid of her or if she just has short appearance.

Skeleton Coast was a great read, am wondering how Sloane will fare, I am thinking that she will be in the next one as a crew member. In what capacity I have no idea. Perhaps as an operative as she proved that she was cool under pressure, but cannot wait to see. I have everyone of CLive's books and have enjoyed the collaborative efforts. It is a win win situation. More Clive books instead of only one at Christmas time. Gotta be happy with that.
