This is good for the time being. But in the long run how will this affect the oceans. Water needs to be conserved. I'm not too smart on these matters but can we all depend on a never ending supply of water? The ice caps are melting and when they go what will happen? Just a thought.

I have to admit that I think a desalination plant is the easy way out of water shortage problems. Haivng said that, I am pleased to see the power for the plant comes from a wind farm.
Real water conservation comes from education. Get people thinking that it isn't a finite resource and they'll start looking after it. You still see a lot of water wasted and I think every state in Australia is on water restrictions of some kind.
Because I play with vintage trucks I try to balance my impact by saving water and recycling as much as possible (helps to have a recycling pick up every fortnight). I reckon I can do more, just have to work out how!
The pleasing thing to see over the past 12 months is that there seems to be a lot more awareness about this type of thing so perhaps we've turned a corner?

One of the biggest problems in Australia is its one of the driest nations on Earth and the majority of the population has huge expanses of lush lawn and guzzling gardens. Oh, and did I mention the amount of swimming pools there are in every town and city? I'd say too many! I grew up in a town where you were taught to turn the tap off as you brush your teeth. I bet hardly anyone does that these days. Its all about water management, not desal plants and the like.

I still struggle to see the whole point of running the tap/faucet while brushing your teeth. Unbelievable.

I agree that large lush lawns with sprinklers running for hours and swimming pools in 1 out of 3 yards is just to much wasted. We are a very spoilied and selfish people in some ways. I too turn the faucet with brusshing my teeth. I don't water the grass only the flowers if it is real dry and not for long. I support wind power Andy. I wish I lived where I could allow the towers on my property. I hope the world wakes up before it's to late to remedy the situation.
