Title: Clive Cussler Original Book Cover Art

punzart - November 27, 2006 10:23 PM (GMT)
To all the collectors on this forum. My name is Punz Wolff. During the 1990's I was commissioned to do a couple of Clive Cussler Book Covers. Recently I received a phone call from an avid Cussler collector wanting to purchase the original book cover art I had done for "Raise the Titanic". I had no idea what it might be worth so I sold it to him for $1350.. Until I started googling around the web, I had no idea that there was such a robust market for Clive Cussler memorabilia. After reading this thread it is started to "sink" in that perhaps I sold it for too little. I have another original for "Iceberg". He is interested in purchasing this one as well. What do you think it is worth? Any interested parties please contact me through this forum. :)

I wouldn't have a clue as to what it might be worth, but you might be right, that you might have asked too little. You might have to seek out a professional for help on that, especially that its the original "Iceberg" art. A copy of the book "Iceberg" in fine condition is worth an easy $2,500 from what I've seen, especially if its signed.

As for the person to sought you out for the purchase... I would give everyone one guess as to who that was. I'm pretty sure I know. LOL ;)

Here's a thought. If you sell the Iceberg artwork to the same buyer, make sure you price it to cover the dollars you feel you lost out on with the first deal.

As for the estimation of value, can you post a pic of the artwork here?

Cheers ... Tony

Hi Punz, I agree that you may have sold it for too little and should make up the price on the Iceberg print. Hardcore Cussler Collectors usually know the value of his items.

One of my best friends is a world famous artist and he will tell you down to the appraised penny what his art is worth, I have quite a number of his pieces including AP's all of which are personally signed to me.

I bet you can figure out what your art is worth, if you did those original Book Cover prints then you have been doing this for a long time and every artist knows great Art only increases in value.

Now I know the Art Work! I thought you had done the artwork for the Dodd-Mead edition of Iceberg, my mistake sir I'm sorry. Again with the value of the art work, I didn't see an AP signature on it nor a limited number line so my question would be, which one is it?

Not sure what you mean by AP signature. However, if you look in the white boarder area at the lower right portion of the artwork you will see my hand written copyright notice. This is how I always signed my book cover illustrations. Since this is the original art, not a reproduction, there is no edition number.

Regarding Artist Signature on artwork. If anyone was interested in acquiring the art and would like me to sign it within the live area, I would be happy to sign it.
