To a collector, a book club edition is not valued as high as a true first edition is.

In the US, they are usually smaller in size than the true first edition, and in Cussler books this holds true for all except Atlantis Found. The price is not shown on the dust jacket.

Here is a quote from a website concerning the definition of a book club edition:
Book Club - Edition of a book printed especially for a book club. All books are of a uniform size and usually produced with cheaper materials. http://www.delvebookstore.com/book_terms.htm

In the UK, BCA, is a book club edition.

While this is not an exhaustive treament of this subject, this covers the major points.
