I'm currently reading Rising Tide - The Untold Story of the Russian Submarines that Fought the Cold War. Very good book, surprisingly easy to read with some excellent first hand accounts. HB first edition bought over Christmas period for A$14.95! Score!

In the section leading up to the Cold War, the authors provide a run down of the development of the Russian submarine force. There is reference to pre-1900 boats and early 20th century stuff. Some of the boats sank and, as I was reading this section, I couldn't help wondering whether these wrecks would be worth looking into. Certainly the pre-1900 gear would be interesting to compare to the Hunley etc.
