Title: Whats it realy Worth?
Description: Book values gone silly? or not?

It's probably not the first time some one has brought this topic up, so forgive me if its a little "old hat" for the forums founding fathers(and daughters).

I know that some of us will pay quite a bit for that elusive first copy /first print to complete a collection.

But for myself I would only pay what some would consider "silly ammounts" for the most mint 1st/1st if and only if it was the last chance to gget one.

whatever the author / title.

I have spent over a hundred dollars for the odd book ,but then they were always under or just on the maximum I set myself.

But would you pay say £145 ($290) for an ex library book?....

(Ebay Item no. 200064388845)(UK)

Even though its supposed to be a UK First Hard cover of pacific Vortex?

Having visited "Cussler down Under" I can understand people paying that extra ammount for say a Dodd mead, or one of the listed "Odd Books", But even then they would have to be like new for me to shell out majour money.

What I'm interested in is your opinion as a CC fan and as a serious collector of 1st edition Cussler books.

I look forward to your replies.

Mal.

I've paid around $150.00 USD for a few of his books, basically ARC's, Mayday and Iceberg Large Prints. I tend to spend money on the Night Probe books when I have it.

What I will NOT do is bid against anyone I know that is a forum member, my exception Night Probe, and I will never completely screw anyone out of something Cussler if I know they really want it. I don't have an amazing collection but I do have a good one and I take great pride in the way I obtained every book, photo, poster and general Cussler items.

I do buy from the states so I best mention my ebay name MG697 ;)

Having just gone thru all my HB 1st's, I am now short of the following Ist's .......

RTT / Treasure / PV / N,Probe / UK Mayday/..

Fire Ice / Blue Gold / White Death / Serpent / Skeleton coast / Dark Watch.

Vin Fiz (have UK 1st PPB though)

I usually frequent a good number of book stores a week, I'll keep an eye open for these. Though they may end up being US version HB.

I've just recently, the past two years, started switching my collection of 4200 paperbacks into 1st Editions. So I'm not sure if there is a difference between the UK & US editions.

This is the way I look at it - I will never spend the amount of money you guys will for these books. I am not judging you because to me it comes down to your interests and passions.

I love reading CC and Dirk Pitt but as long as I have a copy of the book that is fine with me. I enjoy reading this but it's not a passion. If collecting CC stuff is your passion and you can afford it then more power to you.

My passion is comic books. I have an untold amount of comic books in my office at home. I have some that are worthless and some that would get me a pretty penny if I sold them. I go to comic book stores and try to find issues I don't have or I know are worth a lot.

Good luck looking for the books you are lacking.
