Title: Pandora's Curse
Description: New Orleans treasure!!
Empress - February 26, 2007 05:24 AM (GMT)
I just got back from New Orleans and while I was there I decided to see if any of my used bookstores were open again in the French Quarter. 2 of them were and I found this pretty baby at the 2nd one for $3.50 USD. I talked to the owner for awhile and come to find out this pretty baby has been in the store pre-Katrina. I got goosebumps of course!!!!

No, the funny thing with Jack's ARC's is this is the second one that looks exactly like the finished product so they aren't that easy to spot. I really love the bookstore I found this at, you have to suck in tight just to walk around the place and as tight as the store is and the amazing amount of books in it, the owner can tell you where everything is and if he has the book. Sounds like a Cussler character that we all know!

Sounds like the bookstore I went to a few years ago and bought a biography of Matthew Calbraith Perry. w:

I bet your person doesn't weigh 400 pounds or he'd never make it between the shelves if you have to squeeze. ;)
Sounds like the bookstore I went to near my house when I was a kid. I think I cleaned out his Cussler section and that really started the beginning of my collection. Unfortunately, his shop closed down soon after and I've never found a good used bookstore since! There's supposed to be a big one here in Milwaukee but I haven't gone to or found it yet.

I'm new to this forum and I tend to read rather than post. I am glad to see that you were able to find a treasure in New Orleans. So many of our shops are struggling after the storms, especially in the Quarter with the decrease in tourism. I always enjoy browsing through the used bookstores.

Welcome, New Orleans Empress. Lots of prayers and well-wishes sent your direction for your great city!! I spent some time there while in the Navy years ago (almost 30 now) and have nothing but fond memories of both the city and the people. It's amazing how in times of great tragedy & struggle that treasures arise - not only in the form of books - but in people as well. God bless!!

That they do. I almost missed a cheap Havoc ARC because it looked EXACTLY like a softcover version. I just stumbled on it like you mentioned. Are you trying to collect these Julie - I noticed you found Pandora's Curse as well? I might be able to help if you want a Havoc uncorrected proof, the shop I went to in CT had a few copies somehow.

Hey Jamie! I have the ARC for Havoc and for Charon's Landing that Jack was nice enough to sign for me and my Medusa Stone ARC is with a fellow Cussler lover. I sent it to them for missing Scottsdale AND because they had mailed me some books to sign "while I was there".
I love Jack's writing, Havoc was amazing and Philip Mercer still has a "Meow" effect.

Hi again Julie, just an FYI: if somehow (doubtful) Jack makes as much a splash as Clive in the future I have a feeling the 'Forge' hardcover edition of Vulcans Forge will end to be the DuBrul version of a Dodd Mead as far as being sought after by collectors, though not for financial value. The press run was limited and many went to libraries. Finding a mint non-library copy is very tough and relatively expensive. I am happy to have grabbed a mint non-library flat signed copy recently! Loving getting into collection his stuff at the ground floor so to speak.
So far I have:
'Forge' edition hardcover of Vlucans Forge; flat signed
First edition hardcover Charons Landing; flat signed
First edition Hardcover Havoc
Norwood Press limited edition leather Havoc; flat signed
First edition paper back of Medusa Stone; flat signed
Havoc ARC
Pandoras Curse ARC
The rest of the paperbacks.
Two questions:
- Do you know of any hardcovers I am missing; I do not see any others available?
-Have you read Clive's intro to Havoc in the Norwood Press special edition? It is cool and I can transcribe if if you want to take a gander!
Also; if you see ARC's available of Vulcans Landing, Charons Landing, River of Ruin, Medusa Stone, or Deep Fire Rising PLEASE let me know; would love to add any or all of them to my collection.
Hope all is well. I am in my recovery period from my cruise last week! :)
All the Best ~ Jamie

I agree with you on Vulcan's Forge. I have 2 mint copies, one signed and about 6 I've mailed out to people. Charon's Landing and Havoc are the only other HB so you're not missing any. I love Jack's writing, Havoc was visual fantastic!
I'll keep my eyes peeled for you and remember whe you are looking for the Medusa Stone ARC, it will be the red cover.

Thanks for the heads up on the Medusa Stone ARC color Julie. As long as you are keeping your eyes open for ARC's for me I am also in the market for signed copies of River of Ruin, Deep Fire Rising, and Pandoras Curse. If you see any (anywhere) please let me know; I believe you have my eMail addy.
Agreed on Vulcan Forge; that was a nice edition along with the MS and PC ARC! :)
God I love collecting books!!!
