Title: Clive Cussler interview - Cyclops 1986
jet_doctor - May 28, 2004 10:08 PM (GMT)
Hi all,
I was looking around the web for new Cussler stuff and happened across an old audio interview with Clive from back in 1986 when Cyclops came out. It was with Don Swain of "Wired for Books." I have never heard this interview, so I thought I would post the link to it for those of you who also have never heard it. It's a terrific interview and covers a lot.
It also gives some insight with regard to why errors in plots happen such as how Loren's father had died in a previous book, but yet shows up in a more recent book. Clive said that he never does an outline like most writers and that all the plots and characters are all in his head. The only thing he makes notes on (on a scrap of paper) are things about the characters such as eye and hair color, etc. I found the interview fascinating and its about 30 minutes long. Enjoy!

I just listened to this, it's fascinating. He's soft toned but very well spoken, and entertaining.
The interview is from the time Cyclops is published, and an interesting coincidence is brought forth between the Challenger shuttle didaster and the fictional Gettysburg shuttle from Cyclops.
Don Swain, the interviewer, seems quite familiar with Clive's work, save for one point where he was under the misconception that Pitt wasn't in all of the novels. (He was at this point, Austin is but a glimmer in Clive's eye in '85-'86).) He also discusses the fact that he writes Pitt "in the future", though not by a considerable margin.
Thanks for the heads up on this, jet_doctor! th:

Your welcome Foss Gly. Also, I made a correction in the text of my original message. I had in there "Summer's father," but I meant "Loren's father." I really enjoyed that interview.

Thank you jet_doctor for brining the interview to our attention! :)
I really enjoyed listening to Clive Cussler. Various interesting tidbits that came up in the interview. For example, Cussler wrote Iceberg in Estes Park while on a family vacation.

It's very fascinating. And now I know how the voice of CC sounds. :)

It would be handy if this interview were in something other than Real Player format, something that I could listen to again instead of having to stream it. Ah well!

For you maybe, but for me it would be nice, because my computer won't take (or even install) Real Player. Maybe I can try it at school...

If you can find a place to play it, you could use a hand held tape recorder or something of the like to record it so you can have it for your personal collection - that is, of course, if its legal to do so. I didn't see any copyright info on the link, unless I missed it. Anyone know if that would be legal?

Perhaps you could try this
this freeware media player I have found on the net. Sort of an all-in-one, it will play Real media as well as regular MPEGs, AVIs, and even Quicktime. Worth a shot!

Interesting. Once I download RealPlayer I'm definetly going to listen to it over and over.
I listened to the one in the
CCForum Club Info forum. His voice sounds different than I thought.
