Title: My Book

Lukeplastow - April 27, 2007 03:47 PM (GMT)
Abosultely love the action/adventure genre and ive taken to doing my own book.

Im trying to get it published now and getting some promising feedback on it. CC has been my inspiration to write but IT IS NOT based on Dirk Pitt. Though there is a double act in it, it is hard not to have a hero with a sidekick.

Its about a Russian oil tycoon trying to make Russia great again through evil means. It has alot of wit in it aswell as some well researched information. Also there is binge drinking, smoking and swearing (necessary) which is one beef i have with old CC. Makes it a bit more realistic. DP is too perfect.

There is also a love plot that doesnt seem tacked on like in a few cc books. So when i get it published would anyone want a read of it?

Yes, let me know when. th:

I think that is part of the reason we love him so much. He is the man that all the women want to be their husband or the men want to be like him. But thats just my take on things.

Oh I'm interested if it ever makes it to Australia. (or I'll justbuy it on the net either way)

tonym5 - April 28, 2007 04:29 AM (GMT)
I am interested too. And Dirk Pitt is not perfect. w:

If you want the perfect person to read it, send it to Sean (Nick Kismet). He is a fantastic author and one of our forum favorites. We would all love to read it but it is Sean that could shoot you in the right publishing direction.

ohh what does Sean write?

loren1 - April 29, 2007 12:24 PM (GMT)
Sean is an excellant writer. He has a couple of books out. His first book is" Magic Mirror" VERY GOOD!!!! I'm not sure what the name of the second book is. I haven't been able to find the money to buy it but I will soon. Advice from him is a plus! th: The name he writes under is Sean Ellis.

Me too. Its fun to start with but its getting predictible. The suprise of him escaping is just not there anymore. I still read as im a huge fan but I feel that there are many things thats bug me about DP.

SO i kept these in mind when writing my own book. I picked up on a few tricks and things not to do from other authors too. I hope it will get published so I can show you folk how my ideal hero is.

First of all he is English. Works for his Anerican uncle (mother was a yank). Their trade is oil exploration. But a mishaps along the way makes it exciting. I think the most boring jobs are those in which make the best sotry lines, as the characters get involved in things they wouldnt normally get involved in.

But there you go.

loren1 - April 30, 2007 12:36 PM (GMT)
Sounds good.

Sounds good.

I havent spoke to too many people about it as I dont want to big it up until its published (if it get published). But they asked who to comapre it to and ive told them CC. though i stress it isnt a cc novel.

I'd be keen to read it, mate. Sounds like a different take on the adventure scene.

Thats the idea.

Hopefully itll give those DP fanatics a break from perfection in an adventure hero.

Yeah, I need one of those every once and a while.

I'm also looking at getting a book published, I'm still in the middle of the manuscript, but I'm doing my best to stir up interest though my main site, a myspace site, and a book trailer. From what I've heard, from several authors, is that getting a publishing agent is a good idea. I'd do some research on an agent first, but you may want to look at that route.

and now for a shameless plug cop:

The Baltazara Plateau

When employees of the South American Logging Company start to disappear on the Baltazara Plateau; the company’s Security Specialist, an ex-Marine named Owen Ruger, is sent into the jungle to investigate. During his investigation Owen discovers a hidden temple and the scene of a gruesome attack. In a quest to solve the mystery of the missing employees and the origin of the ancient temple, Owen Ruger finds himself in an adventure of a lifetime; hidden temples, unfriendly natives, a Nazi sympathizer whose search for Atlantis is driven by the prospect of reinstating the Nazi Régime, and a love triangle between biologist Rosalie Ameson and her ex-husband archeologist Daniel McGromic.

All you wanna-be writers need to visit the Clive Cussler Collectors Society webpage and read about the upcoming:
The Adventure Writers Competition.
It is embedded in the Clive Cussler Convention section.

This is going to be a great opportunity for the winner - and expose those that participate in the contest. As Randy Jackson says each week on American Idol - Check it Out!

Thanks Ace.

And Owen soryr to say but that all sounds a bit DP to me ;)

Owen Ruger - May 11, 2007 05:43 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I guess it does have a DP feel to it. But so far I've received a lot of good feedback on the idea. So I guess the question to ask when it's published is, is there room on your shelf for story simular to a DP novel? :) cop:

Lukeplastow - May 11, 2007 10:23 AM (GMT)
Of course there is. The roblem I had to look at was though there may be room for a DP type novel will people compare it too closely to a DP novel?

Thats why I've tried my best to show its not a DP type novel and just an adventure book.

Owen Ruger - May 11, 2007 01:53 PM (GMT)
Gotcha! I get it. Hopefully the readers won't feel like it's a copy cat, I've tried to avoid that throughout the story. While the character, Owen Ruger, does have some similar traits as DP, there’s also a mix of MacGyver and Indiana Jones in him. No sidekick and self employed.

Then again, having Ruger compared to Pitt isn’t necessarily a bad thing…. Unless they say “compared to DP, Ruger sucks!” lol.
cop:

Lukeplastow - May 11, 2007 02:09 PM (GMT)
Haha I like the whole no sidekick self employed angle. I have a sidekick in mine mainly because they have their own stories in the book. My guy works for his uncles oil company, and I use their meetings as a good way of moving the story along.

There will be DP traits in mine but I like to base the fact that he is human and does stupid thigns that sets him apart from DP.

Lukeplastow - May 11, 2007 02:12 PM (GMT)
I tried the no sidekick thingy but I didnt feel as though I could do it as I needed an accomplice for certain parts of the story. If you can pull it off though ill be first in line on Amazon to buy a copy.

Owen Ruger - May 11, 2007 02:50 PM (GMT)
Buy a copy! I'll tell you what; if I get published I'll give few signed copies away to the CC crowd. Maybe have a collective book review from the forum…that would be cool. cop:

Riyukco - May 14, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
Thats another book to add to my growing collection of must haves.
