Ok so I know I may get flax from the "Real Fans" here, but I only read books that are out in paperback. And I don't mean these big huge paperbacks that the Oregon file books came out in. I mean the good old fashioned pocket books. So my question is this. Why does it take so long to get books in paperback? I've been waiting since 2003 to see Golden Budha in mass market paperback, and I still half to wait until the end of this month. Who knows how long the other two will take. Polar shift took almost two years and it didn't even come out it mass market, it came out in "premium". Whats so premium about it, the book isn't that much larger than a mass market book.
I know they want to get all the money they can for the higher priced books, but geesh four years for GB, give me a break.
It used to be about a nine month to year wait from hardcover to paperback. WHATS THE HOLD UP. Black Wind took 19 months, TOK came out Nov 06, and by BW standards won't hit paperback until June 08. I still have a year to wait AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I know I'm not the only one waiting on the paperbacks, becasue they don't print thousands of copies for just little old me.
Ok I'm done venting now. But if someone could answer the question I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

I would take to a printing company about that or the moderator but I havn't seen him post for a while. Honestly I think they would make more money if they put the paperback out much sooner. Right now I can't afford Navigator in hardback. My dad about lost it when he saw the price tag on ToK when he got it for me for christmas. I can afford the paperbacks.
Hiya mate, welcome to the forum. I'm the same as you and everyone on here, a real fan, I wait for the MM PB to come out to save on space and money (spend the rest on other books!). I'm up to date with everything except the latest of each series (ToK, Nav and SC). I do have some DP and KA adventures in large format PB but that's only cos I couldn't wait to read them when they first came out (AF, VR, Serpent and BG). About that time, I was just starting work so didn't have a lot of money so couldn't justify the hardback prices.
Btw, I'm in Australia and GB has been out in MM PB for at least 18 months now. Like I said, the only MM PBs we're waiting for are the latest of each series. I'm expecting ToK MM PB to be out for Christmas as it's already out in large format PB. SC should be out about the same time in MM PB, I reckon.
Where are you for the books like GB to be so far behind and for books not to come out in MM PB? Don't forget you should be able to get them really cheap on Ebay!
beer:
I do not have insight on the answer to this question officially - but I have seen a pattern over the years with this publisher - and that is to spread out the releases of Clive's books (all 3 series - now the 4th with The Chase coming up) to not flood the market - and to release a paperback right before a new hardback is due.
If you'll note - Polar Shift came out in paperback about a month before the release of The Navigator. If you look at the anticipated date of Treasure of Khan in paperback - it is in October. A month before the hardback of The Chase comes out on November 6th.
Jack's next Oregon book - Plague Ship is scheduled in hardback in the spring. Wonder what they'll do before it - probably too early for THe Navigator to be out in paperback - but you never know.
