My local paper alerted me today to an absolutely huge collection of Titanic memorabilia taking place in the next couple of days, including some items from movies about the ill-fated liner. I thought a few of the resident Titanic buffs would be interested in this. Be warned, you'll likely never be able to afford a lot of the stuff up for bid!

t: I may not be able to afford any of it, but I ordered the catalog with full color pictures of everything. Oh well, I still have my piece of coal that came from the Titanic. th:

Thanks for the info. Foss!

Now thats what I'd like in my den!

467C Four Foot Long Model of Titanic
Model of the Titanic on a wooden stand. It is a detailed older model with ladders, lifeboats on davits, deck benches, winches, etc. The model does have some cracking to the stern and is missing three lifeboats and two davits, but overall, is in good condition.

Beautiful model! That would look great on my mantle, and is probably something my wife wouldn't mind as well.

They need to prevent salvagers from taking things from the TITANIC. It should lie in peace as it is a grave and should be turned into an international park and memorial with law enforcement to prevent thievery, etc...there should be respect and reverence for this grand lady of the seas. t:

Titanic Auction
After 92 years, the Titanic will make it to New York. An unprecedented auction of items relating to the Titanic, White Star Lines, and other famous ships will be offered. These vetted, glorious collections are without peer and tell the tragic story of, arguably, the most famous ship. Care is being taken to ensure that none of the Titanic items are the result of modern salvage operations.

A lot of items were salvaged from the wreckage site right after it sank. From the looks of the auction, most of the stuff was personal effects of people who survived, art, posters, bits and pieces from the original salvage attempt in 1912.

To put your mind at rest Tony! t:

Not to mention....the only people able to take ANYTHING from Titanic....have a ton of money and backing...its not like a regular Joe Schmo can go salvage things from the titanic.

t: I got the Guernsey's Auction book today. WOW, if I only had the $$$$$. They had stuff from other lost liners too, like the Andea Doria. I actually do have a few of the items they were auctioning. I didn't pay anywhere near what they are estimating. Nice! If I ever get a functioning scanner again, I'll post some pictures showing the auctions stuff and mine. t:

We have a two or three foot model by the fireplace, but it doesn't have that detail.
