Several of us were surprised with advanced copies of The Chase at the convention this year. It was a much sought after commodity, with a huge anticipation factor added.

I liked this book a lot - but it truly (in a sense) is a departure from Clive's formula. The story revolves around a series of bank robberies back in the early 1900's that are both exciting and horrific in nature.

The government employs the services of a detective named Isaac Bell who is a modern day Sherlock Holmes to catch the thief- or thieves. The Chase is then on - and goes from Arizona, to Colorado, to California and culminates (following the great San Francisco earthquake) in a great action sequence involving two old locomotives.

I think Clive's fans will rejoice in the writing and eat up the new character. When it comes out November 6th - rush to the bookstore to get it!!
