1. The movie "DeepStar Six" was originally known as "Deep Six" after Cussler's book. DeepStar Six writer Lewis Abernathy is a friend of James Cameron who wrote and directed "Titanic".

2. The movie "Under Siege" with Steven Seagal was inspired by Cussler's book, Vixen 03. They even had a character named Pitt, an electronics expert, played by Richard Jones.

3. In the movie "Raise the Titanic" M. Emmet Walsh's character, Master Chief Vinnie Walker, was actually "Vinnie Giordino" in earlier scripts. So watch the movie again, this time seeing Walker as Pitt's trusty sidekick, Al Giordino.

4. In the movie "Raise the Titanic" Clive Cussler was contracted for a speaking role in the movie. He appears as a reporter at a news conference in the movie but his dialogue ended up on the cutting room floor. Cussler "reporter#1" was also unceremoniously dumped from the cast credit list.

Below is Cussler's axed dialogue ;

Why do it? It’s sixty-five years since she sank. Why raise her now?

...

Then what happens?

5. In 1943, Jacques Cousteau invented the world's first scuba apparatus and called it the aqualung. In 1951 when Clive Cussler was based in Hawaii he wrote to Cousteau to place an order for the new aqualung. Cousteau replied with a price in francs and Cussler sent him a cheque. A few months later the aqualung arrived which enabled Cussler and his buddy Al Giordano to explore underwater.

Below is a 1 minute video showing Cousteau's new aqualung ;
